  1. Q: What's the Democrat's platform in the midterms? A: Unlike Trump, we can use both Facebook and Twitter.
  2. I met Cap, Natasha, Banner, Hank, Tony, and Thor this evening and even let Thor sit on my lap. Of course, that's just a small portion of my collection of cats....
  3. I see no reason for anyone to attempt to see Stephen Wright so I'll guess him?
  4. Makes no sense to me. The fans who are still watch and/or attending pro football games likely aren't the same group of people who were backing Kaepernick. And the teams and league didn't seem to support Kaepernick either. So hurting them financially by shutting down the Super Bowl is senseless, unless there's some 4th dimensional chess move going on that I'm not seeing. Just making the threat of a shutdown is costing the league money because they're having to spend money coming up with plans of what to do if the interference actually materializes. The players couldn't even make it to the stadium safely if the roads are blocked by angry protesters, not to mention the TV people and entertainers getting there.
  5. Gumby was much better on Saturday Night Live than when on his own show.
  6. Tell us something about Timothy Zahn.
  7. So far the series has been surprisingly enjoyable and not predictable (which is high praise from me). I haven't read the books. But the series is far and away more enjoyable than the Jack Reacher character in the movies.
  8. On my list, I never met Jose Canseco. My wife's best friend dated him when he was in the minor leagues but I never met him myself. I met Nolan Ryan once in passing. Would have liked to have spoken to him but he had people already bothering him. I carried a crossbow while going to see politician and future presidential candidate Jack Kemp give a speech. Snuck it in under my friend's coat. He was going into the military and for some reason thought that while we were going to a political speech would be the perfect time for him to gift it to me. We got there before the crowd and early enough to snag seats in the second row so no one ever noticed the weapon. After the speech, my friend stayed with the crossbow while I walked behind the VIP group a couple of blocks to the afterparty (which I wasn't invited to). But I got close enough to hear him chitchatting casually about political issues which was pretty neat. About half a year later, I got a chance to hear him at a $100 per seat fundraiser for a Senate candidate. They hadn't quite filled out the hall and didn't want the visual of having unfilled seats. I'd worked for the Senator's campaign so I got a free dinner and copies of Kemp's two books. Afterward I got to meet Kemp in person and talk with him for a couple of minutes. I was busy getting married a few years after that while Kemp was running for president so I didn't get to work on his campaign. But one of my best friends from college was his campaign chair in Virginia. He was one of the first people to get into political trouble for accepting favors from Jack Abramoff as he arranged a free ride for Kemp on Abramoff's jet (something which should have been accounted for as a campaign donation but wasn't). Kemp was always getting flown around for the campaign so he never asked where that plane came from. When the press caught on that the flight hadn't been recorded as a donation, Kemp was forced to fire my friend, which pretty much blackballed him from ever again getting an important political campaign position (because politicians back 30+ years ago used to be allergic to scandal). I guess I'm lucky I was busy getting married rather than following my friend off into Republican politics. Coulda been a Democrat, coulda been a Republican, coulda been a contender....
  9. I noticed several watch-parties of families of US Olympic athletes shown on TV that were very crowded and no one wearing masks. I also noticed a couple with everyone masked and a couple with mixed levels of masking. ====== One thing that's depressing to me is that the free masks from the government are now available locally. But even in stores where they're giving those masks away for free, I didn't see anyone wearing a N-95.
  10. I think recommending that in sarcasm makes it explicitly clear how ludicrous the RNC position is and thus helps clarify a discussion. YMMV
  11. I had 15-20 minutes of alone time with Bill Clinton after he'd given a speech then a reception. After talking for a few minutes, he tried to convince me to quit school and travel around the state with him as part of his political campaign (getting back the governorship of Arkansas during the 1982 campaign). He had no money and no paid staff at the time. He was booking speeches then buying a platter of cookies for a "reception". And setting up the reception room and breaking it down afterward all by himself. Most of our time together consisted of me staying afterward and putting the chairs away, working at it alongside him. I'd asked him a question during the question-and-answer time at the reception during which he found out I was a local. That question got him talking about farm issues and what he as governor could do to address the 20% interest rates which were killing farmers at the time. It was a great set-up question for him to try to connect with the crowd (and to get quoted in the paper). And apparently showed him I had some political acumen, or at least more than the typical audience member. I can't tell you how many times I regretted the choice of staying in school. A lot of the people who started following him around that time eventually ended up working for him in the White House. I could have finished my college years at any point in time. But there's only a few times in your life that a politician will offer to take you along for a ride to the top. I did manage to get my picture in the local paper with Clinton though by circling opposite the photographer during the reception and making sure I managed to got into every shot.
  12. Strike one, met him in passing while visiting Fort Worth.
  13. You know, the membership of the RNC isn't a mystery.https://gop.com/about-our-party/rnc-members/Take Toni Anne Dashiell, one of the three members from Texas. She is president of Dashiell Properties, Inc., Property Management Firm according to her bio at the RNC. That company's webpage is here: https://www.dashiellproperties.com/about-usIt lists the company address asDASHIELL PROPERTIES, INC.143 Spanish PassBoerne, TX 78006Phone: 830-488-7509Email: tonianne@dashiellproperties.comIt occurs to me that if Republican activists can have legitimate political discourse at one place of work that Democrat activists could have legitimate political discourse at some other place of work.I mean, that's how legitimate political discourse works, right?
  14. I'll guess Gillian Anderson since she seems the least likely to speak with a Yorkshire accent.
  15. My list Jose Canseco (pro baseball player) Jack Kemp (pro football quarterback then politician and VP candidate) Bill Clinton (politician) Nolan Ryan (pro baseball player) Rick Perry (former Secretary of Energy and former governor) (I always guess everyone has met Larry Niven. I mean, who hasn't?)
  16. Not a huge shock. Not many people outside of ornithologists and bird watchers use "corvid". But at least the automatic spell checker my browser uses for the site recognizes the word, and I guess that's the important thing.
  17. Are you sure it's not a large quantity of bats that are around COVID Cove?
  18. I'd also consider that many times in fantasy literature, "sleep" potions act more like putting someone into a coma than putting them "to sleep". If that's the idea, Transform is definitely a better fit than a Drain in my opinion. You could slip someone a coma potion, load them onto the back of a donkey, and transport them to another city to turn them in for the bounty without them waking up. Of course the person in question would need to drink enough of it rather than just a sip. And the right person would need to drink it rather than his girlfriend. And he'd really need to be alone because going into a coma would definitely tip off his drinking buddies that something was up. And the PC's would need to be close enough to observe him drink it then be the first person to find him lying unconscious. Just setting up the right circumstances is probably much more difficult than bopping him on the head then tying him up.

I just want to play out that Dregslist scenario so much! I like the tricky high-tech hero schtick so doing that is exactly the kind of thing I would have proposed.
  20. One of my favorites is the Mad Thinker invading the Baxter Building. His elaborate plan has ensured that the FF is gone, the building is uninhabited, and that he can turn the defenses off &, with a few minutes work, take over the building. He gets inside and if I remember correctly, Thundra and a scratch group of FF allies are fighting off an invasion by Blastarr (or Annihilus?) and his minions from the Negative Zone. So suddenly the Mad Thinker is in the middle of this huge pitched battle wondering what the hell happened.

"You can fly over the jungle if you like. But if you want to find treasure, you'll need to walk through the jungle." Is there treasure in the jungle? Probably not. But it does give them incentive to walk.

Yeah, I can imagine Dregslist works out pretty well for heroes. Instead of a normal person meeting up with their mugger in the parking lot of a Dennys, the supervillain could meet up with the hero.
  23. Some would argue that it was Zachary Quinto's Spock who finally won. But that was a Ret-Khan.
  24. Kirk was the only one who could finally defeat Khan.
