  1. That reminds me of something Flying Buffalo used to do with their website: Rick Loomis (their GIC*) would put a hidden little surprise somewhere on the website, and the first person to locate it would get a prize (a $10 credit or gift certificate, IIRC). I don't expect anything like that on this site any time soon (though you never know). I just wanted to share a nifty memory. *GIC = Guy In Charge
  2. Re: Aristocracy in TE Or Steve & Co. could combine this with the money question in another thread, and make them the seed for an entire book. Intrigue among the Imperial Houses could always make for a fun campaign, and a 150-page book could cover that from many different angles....
  3. Re: Re: Great Quote As opposed to Chaosium's old "Cthulhu for President" campaign, where the slogan was, "Vote for the GREATER of two evils!"
  4. For the first question, think of everything you'd want to have in a self-enclosed city. You'll need a quartermaster (for clothing and personal supplies), sickbay, galley, infrastructure support (for plumbing, power, and such), entertainment facilities, brig, armory, and storage bays, plus science labs, machine shops, docking areas, airlocks, and anything else needed for the mission. For the second question... pick up TUV (or maybe TE).

  6. There was an argument on the HML several years ago. At the time I was about the only person holding this position (there may have been one or two others). If you have a link to a scientific research page (preferably from NASA), or if someone here with a certifiable background in a related field would post agreement, I'd feel very vindicated. What about MegaScaled Leaping?
  7. Power Armor abilities should definitely not be built as an Elemental Control, for the reasons you cite and many more. There are three accepted ways (one of which is controversial) for building power armor: 1) OIF, as you say. 2) OIHID, for those cases where it's incredibly difficult (if not impossible) to remove the armor even when the character is unconscious. 3) As a Vehicle -- this is the controversial method I mentioned, in large part because there are so many elements of a Vehicle that don't generally fit the usual concept of powered armor (see TUV page 83, with other applicable notes under "Is It A Focus?" on page 7).
  8. I was out of town for most of yesterday, but as soon as I got up this morning I came to the HERO site specifically to find Steve's message about the write-in ballot and get my vote registered. I have my ballot filled out, and I'll be sending the confirmation a little later today. I'll be getting at least a couple of other people (including Colleen) involved as well.
  9. Oh, I got that part. But, to (roughly) quote someone who reviewed the book, "First Edition Ninja Hero explained how to run a martial arts campaign; Second Edition explains why." Aaron Allston was preaching to the choir, while Mike Surbrook preached to us heathen masses. Of the currently-available HERO books I don't have, it's #2 (right after Terran Empire, for which I have specific designs) on my list of things to get.
  10. I'd say it's a very reasoned-out starting point. That level of Advantage is about what I was going to suggest right off the cuff, and you've just done the math to support it.
  11. Kidding aside (see above), if you're first goal on Hero books is enjoyment I'd go with Ninja Hero. I don't have my own copy yet, and have only been able to peek inside a copy at the store, but from all reports its the most enjoyable read by far of all 5th Edition HERO books.
  12. Re: Re: Dang! Nothing more to read! Nah... definitely The Ultimate Vehicle.
  13. I wouldn't call it a fluke. I'd just call it a simple product of one individual being easier to identify by name than a list of twelve.
  14. How much for a Taurus with a mounted blaster rifle and an invisibility device?
  15. Actually my thought for a power to go with that name would be a huge Cosmic VPP with the Limitation 1 Charge That Never Recovers (-4). That way the character could use any Power in the book, but could only use any given combination of Powers, Advantages, and (other) Limitations once, ever. And isn't that the very definition of anomaly?
  16. If he's using Summon for this power, then it starts at 12 base points (or 11, depending on how you round); the Amicable Advantage boosts it to 24 (or 22). Further Advantages can increase the cost, but that's the basics. (Under some Special Effects, I'd allow a Vehicle to be bought in a VPP directly, using the Vehicle's base points as Active Points and its actual cost as the Cost. Thus, the Taurus would be 56 Active Points and 11 Real Points. This is not one of those Special Effects. I'd also insist in most cases that the Only Change At Base Garage Limitation be taken.)
  17. Okay, you're right about that much -- though it's still capable of being wrong. I still expect to see the "round at every step along the way" rule, and the only exception I remember being explicitly named is SPD. Maybe a clarification from Steve is in order here.
  18. Re: TUV CKC question I didn't include it in TUV because that book was supposed to be universe-generic as well as genre-generic. Early drafts under Fourth Edition did include some new and established CU characters, but the world of Fifth Edition has a whole new landscape. As for CKC, you'd have to ask Steve. My suspicion (and it's only a suspicion) is that the Centipedemobile, Exo-Skeleton Man, and Foxbat's crew from Enemies Assemble have all been retconned out of existance. (However, you can probably expect to see the tank on TUV page 117 written up somewhere, sometime soon.)
  19. Re: Re: Rules for Summoning vehicles = LOCO! That would be a Linked AOE Energy Blast.
  20. No, to Summon it costs 11 points (before the Advantage). You don't round up for Summon, but to the nearest 5.
  21. I'm OK with being written up. I'd be willing to help by answering any questions about my KSes and Disads, too.
  22. I personally would love to see War Hero as a Hero System genre book. World War II would be merely a setting book for the genre (the central one, no doubt, since that's the most popular setting for war movies). (But then, what do I know? I'm the guy who's chomping at the bit to pick up Sports Hero or Mystery Hero.) That said, I think a good Digital Hero article would be a great way to test the waters for the genre. Granted, there's not a lot of feedback over there, but at least you could give Steve and Dave a general idea as to what you're capable of. In short, go for it!
  23. Personally, I intend to go for it. This would be the perfect opportunity to inflict Laughing Boy, the crimefighting gadgeteer clown, on an unsuspecting public.

    Sense Trouble

For most cases, I'd go the Danger Sense route. For someone like Superman, who tunes into people's cries for help with his super-hearing, I'd just give bonuses to Hearing PER with the Limitation Only To Hear Cries For Help (-1). Monolith's suggestion is good for a character with Mental Powers, and a specific cast of individuals he keeps track of.
  25. Two related questions about the Extra Limbs Power: 1. I have a Champions character, The Creature, who has four arms and a tail. The two extra arms are fully manipulatory, but the tail has only limited manipulation. This costs the regular 5 points, right? 2. Suppose I have a Star Hero character from an alien species that already has Extra Limbs, but this individual has even more -- say, a four-armed Mon'dabi, or a six-armed character from the aliens with four arms (from the cover of TE; I don't recall their name). The Mon'dabi already spends (IIRC) 3 points for the tail; does this just upgrade the Extra Limbs to 5 points? The other guy already spends 5 points, and doesn't spend any more for the extra two arms, right?
