  1. Re: Strength and Doubling Damage Well, a character with 100 STR and a kitchen knife is a lot like a character with 20 STR and a plastic spoon. So they're punching you with a spoon in their hand, big deal.
  2. Re: Move Through Interception Realistically, it doesn't bother me. You can even attempt the same race in real life, kinda... Imagine two runners, one with an open path, and the other with periodic barriers made of plastic wrap. The plastic wrap is easily broken through and the runner has enough PD and CON and STUN to avoid being Stunned and KOed by the end of the race. Of course, also realistically, the runner who keeps running into invisible things should probably give pause and wonder why all this crap is in his way... after all, the next one might not be easily busted through. Unless he's reckless or stupid, he should slow down out of caution.
  3. Re: Mansions Okay, here is the mansion of Ken Yoshida, superhero rights activist. http://tlot3.net/herosystem/mansion.html
  4. Re: Firewalling Mental Attacks I'm not sure if this is possible using the standard rules, but I can try... Combine Indirect with IPE to make your Mental Attack appear to come from someone else's head. or... Use TK BOECV to "grab and control" someone's mind in the same way a martial artist could grab and control a target to act as a shield.
  5. Re: Beam vs. Walls and Entangles I believe the rule you're looking for is the Beam Limitation for Attack Powers (sorry, I don't have the book with me to no page reference). Basically Beam means instead of a huge blast like thing, it's a narrow beam. It does the same damage, but one of the reasons it's a Limitation is because it can't pole large holes through things, like walls and Entangles. So you can't really use it to escape from an entangle or break someone else out of one; it just doesn't to the right kind of damage. Of course, if the SFX is appropriate (such as rope), a Beam attack might be effective.
  6. Re: That's Easy?? Show me how _you_ did it. This is what I assume. Same with invulnerability. You can call anything "limitless" even though there is an actual mechanical limit, so long as no one every knows that limit has been reached.
  7. Re: Analysis Thread: Synergistic Advantages I've noticed that Autofire and Armor Piercing is very synergistic. Normally Autofire is nothing more than an alternate method of doing damage. It breaks even in most balanced campaigns. But combined with Autofire, you end up with a very powerful attack (assuming you're accurate with it of course).
  8. Re: Few Questions about Sweep, and Combat Skill levels I agree with Ghost-Angel for the most part, but some things to consider: 1) I'm okay with the penalty staying at -2 DCV so long as each attack is made using a different limb. The concept of TWF is to use multiple weapons (or for martial artists, strike with multiple limbs). If this is not done, I don't see any reason to grant the reduced penalty. 3) You will not get a surprise bonus, but the target may receive a penalty to DCV from being struck by an attack he cannot perceive. Since the attack would be generated from an adjacent hex, I might be willing to give him a PER roll using non-targeting senses to perceive the attack since the attacker himself isn't invisible.
  9. Re: Mansions I've got a mansion map based off a mansion here in Phoenix. It's a 3 story set on the side of a mountain. I don't have a map of the grounds, but I could post the floorplan (complete with overlaid hexgrid) this evening if you're still looking.
  10. Re: Should I keep going with this article? I'm looking forward to reading more. Repped. (hey, if I don't have to pay for it, I might as well give you what I've got)
  11. Re: Rules Mechanic: A Six Second Turn But can they do it while running across a battlefield while effectively avoiding multiple attacks? If not, then they are Sweeping, not using multiple Phases to attack.
  12. Re: Move Through Interception Rubbish. It either needs more detail, or it needs to be removed. Reading it as it is, if there is a line of targets, all standing shoulder to shoulder and I come at them at a full 90 degree angle, I can Sweep Move Through each of them, even though that makes entirely no sense whatsoever. I'm pretty sure that's not what the rule indented. The way a Move Through works, there is no allowance for striking at multiple targets unless you leave a hole in the target (such as when going through walls). If we can do it, there should be some reasonable description of how to do it, otherwise any adjudication on the part of the GM is purely based on personal opinion and should be considered a house rule, even though it says in the rules you can do it. In my opinion, this is not good.
  13. Re: Move Through Interception According to the rules for FW, all it does is subtract from the damage of an attack aimed at a target on the other side (or stops it if not enough BODY is rolled). There is no additional penalty of any kind, even with only STUN gets through an no BODY. I'm thinking the same should apply when doing a Move Through against a target on the other side of a FW. I wouldn't have the FW reduce any of the damage to the target, but neither would I have the attack only take impact damage once.
  14. Re: Diagnostics I agree, Microscopic isn't really necessary. Discriminatory and analyze should cover it. After all, the character can't actually perceive the malfunctioning area, or all of the functioning mechanisms that make it work... he is just aware of end result.
  15. Re: Get the tomato juice ... True, and maybe it's just a personal quirk of mine, but if it's done by mundane means, I model it using mundane means. The bully bullies using his STR, therefore he buys STR and perhaps a Skill in Intimidation rather than a cleverly Modified Mind Control. After all, the bully is that strong and can, should he choose, beat you up. I feel it should be the same way with the skunk, because the skunk really does have stink spray and can, should he choose, spray you with it. Again, true. I've occasionally used a hours rule for Cosmetic Transforms that a certain number of dice is enough to change a human sized target, regardless of the target's BODY. But only for Cosmetic Transforms. This way things like spray paint, tracking bugs, etc, can work. Typically that number is around 4d6, sometimes 6d6 depending on how much of the target is actually changed. The thing about Change Environment is that you'd have to make it UAA so you can make it stick to a target, but then Limit it so that some things in the area wont' be affected, which may include the target, but still allowing anyone to be a target.
  16. Re: Get the tomato juice ... True, but it's really no more a "mental command" than the bully's strong arm law of the playground. "Do [this] or I'll pound ya" is not mind control. After doing some reading on exactly what a skunk's spray does and is used for by the skunk, I'm at a loss of how to model the stink aspect of it. The obvious parts are that the target will lose his sense of smell, as well everyone near him. Plus there is the possibility of temporary blindness if hit near the eyes and irritation of any other skin contact. But what about the plain ol' bad smell? Is that just SFX? Maybe there is a Cosmetic Transform that goes along with the spray that changes the target into a target that stinks, and the Darkness to Smell and Flash Sight Group just cover the obvious game mechanical effects of the attack.
  17. Re: Rules Mechanic: A Six Second Turn I ran into this same problem. I solved it by changing the character building guidelines for my Champions games. Superheroes have normal characteristic maxima, which they may ignore if they have some kind of power which would allow for superhuman whatever. To keep mooks in their place, I reduced their SPDs to 2-3. Mooks are normal humans after all, not the maximum of human potential.
  18. Re: Rules Mechanic: A Six Second Turn A highly trained human can't consistently perform all the actions a Full Phase allows every second.
