  1. Re: Creatures from Skull Island Just as a random observation, I saw the original Kong on the big screen tonight (with Ray Harryhausen in attendance - too cool!). Something had always struck me odd about Jackson's Skull Island. It finally hit me tonight: It wasn't called Skull Island in the original. Kong's mountain was ostensibly shaped like a skull, and was called Skull Mountain. The island had no name.

  3. Re: Self Defeating Powers Sadly, I've seen GMs require Shape Shift for any character who looks significantly different than human.
  4. Re: Self Defeating Powers Telepathy, Self Only.
  5. Re: "Neat" Pictures That's awesome! I love the people at the corner of the mouth, looking casually out at the crowd.
  6. Re: Steam Punk Fantasy Hero The odds of a copy still being in a bookstore are slim. Maybe a used bookstore. Since it was a licensed property, I wasn't involved in any of the distribution. I do know it was translated and sold in Turkey.
  7. Re: "Neat" Pictures Someone should Photoshop the basking shark over the C5.
  8. Re: Steam Punk Fantasy Hero I'm pretty sure I figured out who one or two were, but I never asked anybody and no one ever 'fessed.
  9. Re: Steam Punk Fantasy Hero Humbly submitted
  10. Re: Comics you loved...but apparently no one else did I liked Dazzler when it first came out, but they amped up her power level so quickly that it exceeded my suspension of disbelief - and this was the very generous same SoD that accepted Dazzler in the first place!
  11. Re: The Second Stringers Or any superhero in the Tick who isn't the Tick or American Maid.
  12. Re: Seeking suggestions on speeding up the Hero System You could calculate a range of Standard Effects - 1/die to 6/die. Then roll 1d6 for damage and use the corresponding value.
  13. Re: Wisdom In roleplaying, everything is simulation. We can't create wisdom or intelligence through the rules any more than we can create laser blasts. That doesn't mean we can't simulate them. (Surely a group that debates the point costs of overcoats and flashlights will rate wisdom as worthy of consideration. ) Possible Wisdom Tricks: Overall Levels - The character is wise enough to make good choices. Telepathy, NND, Vague & Unclear - The character is wise enough to sense the thoughts, feelings and motivations of others. Mind Control, Mood Only - The character says wise things to make someone calm, to motivate them, to agitate them, etc.
  14. Re: Seeking suggestions on speeding up the Hero System I've made tables where, if several combatants with the same OCV are attacking a single target, you can resolve large numbers of to-hit rolls with a single roll. Tremendously cuts the time to run battles versus many goons. Using average damage (3.5 per die, round down) speeds things up. In the past I've used a "take 11" rule, where the player can opt for an "average 3d6 roll." Saved a ton of time, especially against mooks, but it did skew the results. In future I'm considering something more like "take 13," which will skew the results much less.
  15. Re: Name That Band Hero! Zep Machine Messiah - technokinetic Sound Chaser - sonic speedster The Ancient - ancient cosmic being Madrigal - song-based illusionist
  16. Re: Pulp Hero: The animated series artwork Ah yes, Major Howdy Bixby's Album of Forgotten Warbirds. For sheer absurdity, McCall's "Zany Afternoons" is one of my favorites. Tank Polo, Autogiro Jousts, The Zeppelin Shoot ("They Fell So Much More Gracefully Than Grouse")... inspired goofiness. His anthology of the same name is a periodic read for me.
  17. Re: the point cost problem Sure, but that's because I had to pay points for the ISD and you just bought Piloting.
  18. Re: the point cost problem I'd rate R2 as a Follower and 3PO as a DNPC.
  19. Re: the point cost problem In pondering a SW game, I've considered encouraging PCs to buy vehicle upgrades, droids, sidekicks, political followings, et al. I'd have to run the numbers to be sure, but I suspect you could mostly balance Luke's Jedi abilities with Leia + the Rebellion and Han + Chewie + the Falcon's upgrades.
  20. Re: Anyone combine Champs with Call of Cuthulu? I would guess Cthulhu-like elements are not uncommon in Champions games.
  21. Re: When Bad Translators Attack! Maybe this is the Bollywood version. ("Dr. Jackstraw" is a cool name!)
  22. Re: Your personal comic book origins The Avengers run up to the Korvac confrontation. Cemented by Dark Phoenix and the Micronauts.
