  1. Re: Adventure Seeds--Title Tag "The China Syndrome" There is someone new in Compaign City. There is nothing unique or special about this person (no superpowers). However this person is both extremely intelligent and exceptionally charismatic. The problem is that all the orientals in the area believe his message - that all supers and non-orientals are evil and need to be destroyed. How will the heros convince the orientals that this person is actually a self-serving egomaniac? Another option is that this person is actually a pawn being used by some other behind the scenes. 2. Re: Advice needed: Which conversions are okay to post? I am no lawyer so this is not to be taken as hard fact, but I have had some study in college. The copywright laws state that a copywrite lasts for life plus FIFTY (50) yearsHowever there are alot of complicators that makes the life shorter than the life part. Howver the plus fifty years rule of thumb is very solid and needs to be concidered. Unless the character in question has been officially declared with no owner (no exceptions that I know of) it would be best to state the original source and owner if you are going to post any character or the owner has given you permission IN WRITING. You can usually find permission on character sheets written at the bottom.
  3. Re: I want to play Hero, Another possibility that could be used would be to make several threads asking for possible players. One would be in the player finder section and one in each of the type of game that you wish to either play in or run. Doing this admitably will only reach people who are already in these boards, but nothing is stopping you from doing the same in other boards that deal with gaming.Doing that it can be surprising just how many people will show up wanting to play with you.
  4. Re: Adventure Seeds--Title Tag "Of Mice and Mole-Men" One day someone come into Campaign City and claims to be able to get rid of something that is a real nuisance to the townsfolk. The city leaders try to find the catch but none is to be found. (The catch is for the GM to decide on.) Will the heros be able to determine what is going on? If they cannot determine what the catch is, then after everything is over then the "Pied Piper" will reveal what is truely going on. "Tuxedo Mirage" "50,000 Elvis Fans Can't be Wrong...can they?" 5. Re: You can't possibly be!! The Flash and Superman have one of their many speed races to see just who is truely the fastest man on Earth. At one point it looks as though Supes is winning the race so he pushes himself to his limit. In doing so he appears to tear himself apart - literally. In actually what happened is that the Flash's physical body blew apart under the strain but his mind went into the psychic plane. Over a year later he has mastered how to control the powers there and make himself materialize on the phycial plane and use psychic powers in non-traditional manners. He now goes by the name Cerebran.
  6. Re: Adventure Seeds--Title Tag "The City of Broken Air" - While out patroling, the team is confrunted with someone who possesses abilities that exceed normal people but are not at the same level as the heros. This person tells them that (s)he is a representative of a society that exists on the Moon. They have existed there in peace for several centuries Earth-time. Almost a week ago though they came under strife and need the heros to help out. If they agree then they will discover that there is a totally alien race that is trying to get through the defenses that these others are using to protect Earth until humans are ready to join them in space. This will also explain why there are so few actual attacks that penetrate to Earth. In the past these defenses were strong enough to stop invaders, but now the invaders are able to penetrate the defenses and they need the heros to stop the invaders, or else Earth might actually see a true alien invasion. It will be up to the GM to determine why they are defending Earth without the knowledge of mainstream humanity. The next title tags: "The Man Who Praises Poison" "City From Tomorrow" "Alien Invasion"
  7. The team from DC comes to you and says that they are going to put the Flash through a "radiation accident". Trouble is that they cannot decide on what his new stats will be. That is where you are to come in. He will still possess the same background and retain all his memories, but all powers, skills, characteristics, and disadvantages will change. You are totally free to redesign him in any manner that you wish, only exception - no speedster. I am not looking for a complete write-up here, a basic description is all that will do. You need to state the nature of the "radiation accident", new powers set, characteristics, etc in basic language, not sheet language. Lets get those great creative juices flowing and see what we can come up with!!
  8. Re: Please Critique Your comments for PyRon were great. I didn't realize just how over-powered he really was. He now has lost A LOT of power (and points). 9. Re: Super humans populations in cities The reason there are so many supervillains in large towns is simple: Attention!!! In a big city there are more people around to spread the word of the vile deads that they do. They just simply cannot gain that much attention from a small town such as Las Vegas, New Mexico. As for as why the heros tend to congrengate in large towns is also simple: They are responders!! While attention does not matter as much to heros, they respond to what the villain does. This means that they must be in the same location as the villain is, not some two-bit town while the villain is terrorizing Chicago, New York, LA, where ever.
  10. Re: Please Critique I appreciate everyone's comments. beauxdeigh's comment 4 mirrored something that I was wondering about. Concider it downed to moderate. 11. Re: Secret Service question 4: at Stargate Command 1) Since SGC is so isolated and possesses such strong protections already they would give it minor threat conditions. They are 28-stories below ground, no man-made weapon (even nuclear) can penetrate that far. The most that they would have to worry about would be if the nuclear blast would short out all electronics or a commando team tries to get in (in which case the place goes into lock-down - no one in, no one out). 2) The Secret Service is ALWAYS responsible for the President, no matter where he is or location security. 3) That person would face the same charges that anyone else would face if they attacked the President on just and street. I cannot think what these charges would be at this time though.
  12. Re: Please Critique Myntec is ment to be the background sniper of the group and as a result does not generally come to the front of the conflict (there is another member for that). Her prefered tact is to remain in the background using the psy knife to knock them down and if they turn out to possess strong EGOs then she can zap them with her will sapper. Although getting a pair of binoculars would help overcome the effect of range, they would also tell everyone that there is another combatant mixed in the crowd (as usually happens during superhero/villain combat). As far as the Sun being yellow, all she notices and cares about in that line is that the sky is blue and one cannot look directly at the Sun. Scientists are able to study it through either indirect observation or by "dimming its light", either way they are not looking at it directly.
  13. Re: Consequences ... In most campaigns society has strong feelings against the use of mental powers, either known or not. The scientist that it was used on could suddenly develop a phobia with mentalists, any and all. If he has either money or influencial contacts, he could start work on devices that hinder the use of mental powers. In addition everyone who witnessed the act could give the PC the cold shoulder, especially the cops. If any member of the team wanted anything from any legal source, the authority at the time insists that it cannot be gotten or done. Sadly an entire orginization is to blame if one member does something either illegal or immoral.
  14. This is a concept for a villain to to go against several 350-point characters. The villain is actually three 350-point villains that have the ability to join together to make one mega-villain. I would like feedback to see how well they work and any improvements that can be made. Overall Backstory:Reciently Ronald Wysco, Abby Geric, and Warren Wessinton were members of a five-man strike team trying to destroy a terrorist cell in South America. The terrorists captured the entire team. At first they usual manners of torture were enough for the terrorists. After awhile they decided to fo for more extreme methods. At first it was not so bad. Eventually things got to the point that two soldiers died and the remaining three were forever altered. Their powers appeared and they completely destroyed that cell and several more on their way back to the States. While doing so they discovered that they became psychically linked and possess the ability to merge into one powerful being possessing all their abilities. After returning to the USA they defected from the military and went solo. Here is the first: Myntec Abbigale "Abby" Geric Value**Char**Roll**Notes 15**STR**12**3d6 damage; 200.00 kg lift 20**DEX**13**OCV 7**DCV 7 20**CON**13 10**BODY**11 15**INT**12**Perception 12 25**EGO**14**ECV 8 20**PRE**13**Base Presence Attack 4d6 10**COM**11 5**PD**rPD 0**PD 5 5**ED**rED 0**ED 5 4**SPD**Phases: 3, 6, 9, 12 11**REC 90**END 28**STUN Total Characteristics: 146 Powers/Equipment +25 Resistant Mental Defense (30 Total) "Psy Screen" 50% Resistant Mental Damage Reduction "Psy Screen" Psy Link: Trinity Members MP (60) Mentalism -6d6 Ego Attack "Psy Knife" -12d6 Mind Scan "Locator" -4d6 Ego Drain: Ranged "Will Sapper" -12d6 Mental Illusion: Set Effect - Relocate Myntec In Opponent's Mind "Displacer" Total Power/Equipment: 164 Skills CSL -+3 HTH -+2 Range -+4 MP -+3 MA MA: Commando Training -Block -Disarm -Dodge -Escape -Joint Lock/Grab -Kick -Knife Hand -Legsweep -Punch -Throw WF -Common Melee -Early Firearms -Small Arms -Emplaced Weapons Absolute Range Absolute Time Total Skills: 98 Disadvantages Hunted: US Military: More Powerful, NCI, Public ID, 8- Hunted: South American Terrists: More Powerful, Public ID, 11- Psy Lim: Power Hungry: Very Common, Strong Psy Lim: Protective of Trinity Members: Very Common, Total DNPC: Andrew Geric (Brother): Normal, 8- Psy Lim: Fear of Color Yellow: Common, Strong Vulnerability: Acid: Common, x2 Susceptability: Teleportation: 3d6 Instant, Uncommon Total Disadvantages: 155
  15. Re: Has anyone ever had... I reciently ran a campaign that went screwy but it was later in the campaign. What happened was that as time went on the villain that they were supposed to defeat eventually they got to the point that they liked him and would not fight him, amongst other factors. As a rusult, I decided to change the villain that they would have to fight and used a desire from one of the PCs to determine this new villain. The player told me that he wanted this uber-powerful sword so I gave it to him but it was connected to this villain and they had to track him down and destroy him, which they eventually managed to do.
  16. Re: Blackout - help with powers pls Here is a crazy idea which is extremely obvious, possibly so much so that most people would not think of it. For the general "lights-out" field purchase a darkness field defined as turning off active light sources with the selective limitation and costs 0 END and is always on. Take it this way and it will effect all light sources, if the limit electrically powered only then only light sources that are electrically powered will be turned off, not any non-electrical sources (innate power, chemical fires, glow-sticks, etc). As for the attack, use the method described by CrosshairCollie.
  17. Re: Need help with a design Here is a crazy thought: Instead of getting several different forms try having several different MPs each one usable with a given mask. Then in the disadvantages section state as an accidental change the uncontrolled aspects of the change. Doing it this way will make it so that all masks will possess all skills and memories of the other masks.
  18. I am working on a character that has the ability to travel from one place to another by traveling in what he refers to as the psychic plane. He is not a mentalist (more of a cyborg) and can appear on and influence the real plane whenever and where ever he desires. The problem is that this travel is part flight and part teleportation in the sense that he cannot control his velocity while traveling, only the point that he emerges at. At one time it could take him tem minutes to travel ten miles, then again it could take ten minutes to travel one thousand miles. What I am wondering is how I could create this kind of inconsistancy in the standard 350 point character. I greatly appreciate any assistance from your great creative powers in Heroverse.
  19. Re: Demigod of Everything Here is a fun concept to run away with: All the gods were initially started off with equal ability but then specialized in one particular area. However this God of Everything came along quite reciently (only a few thousand years ago) after all the nieches were filled. As a result, he did not have any particular area and decided to try his hand at everything. This just proved how inept he truely is at anything and is seen more as a Jester God by the other Gods. He does not like this distiction and is always trying to prove compotence in everything but is not strong enough for physical endouvers, magic not good enough for those areas, not fast enough for being a runner, whatever else the requirement were higher than he could manage. Keep in mind that he is still a GOD, as a result he can still out-perform an wimpy normal in any endouver.
  20. Re: looking for Adventure idea You could make the villain be more of a chemist type who has developed a special substance that will make anyone who is hit by it susceptable to any command that he makes. However the compounds that are requried to make this substance tends to either be rather expensive or hard to get, if not both. He could be thinking that no one would suspect one of the town's do-gooder heros to be trying to get that substance for the villain and turn the hero into his public relations person when it comes to getting that substance.
  21. Re: Acronym name challenge ,[ENN corporation] Here are two good possibilities: 1 - The corporation could be run by normal humans trying to take over the corproate world and see themselves in the same light as the Knights Templar. They decided to call themselves the Eternal Nights Network (ENN). 2 - Well This is a much more simplistic Name but a suggestion none the less. What about the Economic National Nemisis. Just a few I came up with.
  22. Re: Convention Character Write Ups Here is another good suggestion: save the characters. That way if the player wants to keep the character then he can do so and you will not lose the character youself (unless that does not bother you). In addition you should keep the characters simple, especially if the players are most likely to be unfimiliar with Hero. Using only one concept is best, such as a combat master, speedster, brick, etc. Do not use a mixed concept like the speed-brick, mental-ninja, etc. It was stated before but needs to be re-hit on: DO NOT use VPPs. If you feel that you must do so, then provide a list of abilities for the player to select from. Only venture outside that list for a power that is so off-the-wall that you feel that it should be there, regardless of any problem that it possesses (you can correct any problem later).
  23. Re: Enterprise vs. Enterprise Here is my take on this question: The TOS Enterprise would have an advantage over the Enterprise-D. This is because the TOS Enterprise was built around the idea that they would expolore unknown space. As a result a huge portion of the ship was geared toward combat. While the Enterprise-D has newer tech which allows them to fire their phasers with less energy per shot, the TOS Enterprise is more compact and presents a smaller, more manuverable target. Therefore the TOS Enterprise would win and they would use their wish to send everyone back to a time before all the infighting.
  24. Here is a good problem for everyone. In Star Trek Q decides to test which version of the Enterprise is the best version. As a result he grabs the TOS Enterprise and the TNG Enterprise and puts them into a nether realm telling both of them that they must fight each other. They can use whatever means is available to them on the ship according to the official write-up, cannot get aid from any other ship or source. The winner will be granted one wish that they desire. So whom will be the victor? Please state why your choice will end up victorious.
  25. Re: What If . . . Superman Here is a good career for CK: Lumberjack. With how little actual supervision these people have it would be possible for Superman to go off fight the villain then return before the superiors found out as long as he met his quota. If any machine that he used broke then he could use his strength or heat vision to hide that it decided to not work. On a related line: Mechanic. He could use his micro vision to study the device and determine exactly why it malfunctioned. His x-ray vision could work in conjunction to study devices hidden in walls, if the problem is conventionally unreachable, etc.
