  1. Piercing was a 3rd edition Advantage. Basically, with 1 level of Piercing on an attack, you treated the target's DEF as being 1 lower, ie 10 rPD becomes 9rPD in reference to that attack. Sometimes, it's useful in converting weapons etc from other game systems, or for giving a real world weapon a slight advantage over another without giving it a full damage class or AP advantage....
  2. Meatwad makes the money, see? Meatwad gets the honeys, G.... You're a sick pup, you know that, Herolover?
  3. Nice spin on things, Hermit. That new Sanctuary storyline is awesome.
  4. Maybe all of Muerte is dead, except for his BRAIN! Those con Carne troops seem to be a little less capable than Terror, Inc's agents, but not much so....
  5. Your section for Wraith: the Oblivion goes Greek right before the Disadvantages section, too... Nice conversions though.
  6. Sounds like a good idea. I probably won't participate though, given that when I get started on a serious conversion, I rarely finish it in a reasonable time frame. Just too busy with other things, and then I get side-tracked with another ultra-cool conversion....
  7. Isn't most of the human activity on the planet confined to a big outcrop of rock that sticks out above the sand? You could nuke that to glass if you wanted to, and the sandworms would go on their merry way making spice. Whatever was left after that (mostly spice harvesters and an ornithopter here and there) would just be a mop-up operation. Or, heck, leave them alone and wait for them to drag themselves in and beg for shelter. Or maybe I just don't remember enough about the one book in the series to fully understand the logistics of this enterprise....
  8. Every campaign I've been in has had most characters at a 6 SPD (well, every supers game...). The only people who ever went any lower were a few bricks, or once or twice, characters who took Normal Characteristic Maxima as a disad....
  9. I never saw the New Millenium version of Dr. Destroyer, so I don't know how he was altered if at all, but Dr. D was always pretty averse to dealing with magic. If I recall correctly, Classic Enemies has an adventure hook dealing with this. Essentially, the good Doctor gets his hands on some ancient magical tome, decides it's trash, and turns it into a booby trap for some unsuspecting Morbane.... At any rate, to get to my original point, it doesn't seem in character for Dr. D to be absorbing life-forces unless he has the victims strapped into some kind of life-tapping machinery.
  10. I would say if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Just because the power levels in the book don't jibe with what you've been playing for years is no reason to go back and totally revamp all the characters. Just be aware that official materials, heck even most unofficial materials, will have characters way lower powered than your campaign and will require considerable beefing up to get them where they need to be.
  11. It's been a long long time since I read Dune, and I've never gotten around to the others in the series. I don't really remember the shield-laser dynamic, but I can say right now, if I was a strategist in that universe, I'd be building a bunch of cheap RC vehicles armed with lasers and controlled from orbit. Those mentats aren't earning their keep if they haven't come up with this strategy by now....
  12. I haven't actually played out a campaign under the new point totals, but after making a small handful of supers, I have to say I like the extra 100 points. No more scraping and stretching a concept to get enough points in disads to make a workable hero. And as Trebuchet has pointed out, characters tend to be more rounded.
  13. Hmm...if I was the one making the choice, I'd say boot out Eurostar and keep Terror, Inc. I've always liked the name as well as the characters better....
  14. Coincidentally, I was looking up this same thing just yesterday. I didn't get so far as to look in the BBB, since I knew Mystic Masters dealt with it specifically. There they just used Concentration 0 DCV, totally unaware of surroundings while in use. Although, now that I think of it, that doesn't work so well for Desolid per se. This was Clairsentience with a Desolid special effect. Ah well, it worked perfectly for what I was using it for....
  15. Nah, from the description, she's too tough to die from that. I say bury her scrawny butt under some rubble. She surely can't dig her way out....
  16. Ha ha ha! I was about to say the same thing, Rage.
  17. I would say that for killing attacks, which break down into X, X+1, and X.5, etc, where X is any integer of dice, that for the X+1 level, standard effect is already in place. For X.5, I'd say that SE would yield 2 points of BODY, and obviously a full die yields 3 points. There's really no reason to apply any other modifiers to get a set amount of damage for KAs. As far as other attacks go, FREd says that a power that loses about a third of its effectiveness should be -1/2, so we'll assign that to a 2 pt standard die. Same source for 1 pt standard dice at -1 1/2. Now we have 1, 2, and 3 point dice for normal-type attacks. While I suppose you could build 4, 5, and 6 point dice as well, the math doesn't work out so well for adding 1/3 of a power's effectiveness (unless you're willing to add a +1/3 and +2/3 advantage...and of course doubling a power's effectiveness obviously is a +1 advantage). If you want four points, then either buy two 2 pt dice or a 3 point die and a 1 point die. Now, throw a further limitation on there (oh say -1/2 in my estimation) so that the additional die or dice are only there to penetrate defenses and can't do damage themselves, and you've just recreated Piercing from 3rd Ed. I'm actually glad this topic was brought up, because Piercing is useful for converting some effects from other game systems....
  18. http://members.tripod.com/~HRClark333/Vrules.html Here is a link converting Vampire: the Masquerade over to 4th edition. I'm not familiar enough with the game (V:tM) to say whether it's a faithful rendition or not. Either way, I'm sure it will give some ideas for you in converting Dark Ages over to 5th Ed....
  19. I suppose if D-Man were to give us the marksmanship requirements for his police department, someone could convert that into game statistics and crunch the numbers to determine the minimum OCV for a cop (at least in his area). Of course, this wouldn't differentiate between OCV from DEX and OCV from CSLs, but it wouldn't be too too difficult to hash that out based on the noteworthy or skilled NPC descriptions....
  20. I think you missed a little part of what I was saying... If you want to price laser rifles, you look up the price of modern day rifles (assault rifles if laser rifles are military grade, hunting rifles if everyone has a laser rifle) and price them accordingly. If you want to price an antimatter power plant, you look up an equivalent. If this is a power plant for a car or other car-type conveyance, find out how much an engine costs in the real world and go from there. If this is a power plant for a spaceship, find out how much an engine for a ship costs. Of course, some really weird tech will be difficult to price (like a cryogenic chamber), and you may want to seriously drop the prices on some items (like computers) or else seriously miniaturize them to make the tech level feel right.
  21. Re: Re: Re: Re: Stupid question 4 : phases (edited for brevity) This is a good reason to implement the house rule that all characters declare actions on their phase in reverse initiative order, ie lowest to highest DEX. Once declared, they can't change, and the higher DEX guys have the advantage of making their decisions based on their opponent's tactical decisions. No more incompetent normals half-moving out of the way of the speedster's haymaker....
  22. I have to add the addendum that I haven't seen the price list in TE, but I'm sure with a little shopping around the real world and a little bit of high school math (remember ratios?) you can work out a feasible price scheme for your characters....
  23. Typically, what I do in any campaign (whether fantasy, sci-fi, what have you) is base the in-game currency somehow in real world currency (I rarely let the players know how this works out exactly, though). For instance, most handguns run anywhere from $150 to around $500. In a fantasy campaign, I'd base most one-hand weapons on around 15 gold pieces up to 50 gold pieces. In a sci-fi campaign, I'd price most blaster pistols around 150 to 500 Credits. Once your prices are linked to the real world, imagine how much a character in a movie or a novel would offer for such a mission. Too easy.
  24. Yeah, I think I got a lot of my impressions on what is proper Hero damage from the old Danger Int'l game. My big gripe about The Ultimate Vehicle is that some of the vehicles seem a little flimsy, and some of the weapons seem a little wimpy... Don't get me wrong, I love TUV overall. Just SOME of those weapons....
  25. Yeah, that scam's hard to beat. How do I sign up again?
