Dr. MID-Nite got a reaction from drunkonduty in VIPER: Who's Your Dragon?
I respect that, but also respect that in my campaign...she ties in with the Egyptian god Apep instead of with Nama, which makes her a foil for Solaria, a player character who is an Avatar of the Egyptian god Ra in said campaign. So...her origin is still magical...but still different in many ways from what was presented in 5th Ed VIPER.

Journey to the West: This is probably the best film attached to Steven Chow since Kung Fu Hustle. It's the story of of a buddhist monk who wants to be a demon hunter. Problem is that his methods are a bit too pacifist for the public at large. When a pig demon starts causing havoc, the monk goes on a quest to find the legendary Monkey King to help. The SPFX in this are pretty good and the leads are engaging enough to make the 140 minute run time go by fast. Recommended.

In fairness...the original source material has a fair amount of "stupid balls". Thus, I try to enjoy what I do like and hope the negative doesn't drag it down too much.

Sadly, I fear not enough people would have invested time and thought into mitigating those effects. Because that also would have meant investing energy and money. Look at where we are on the global warming front today -- the warning has been in effect for decades, the science has been overwhelmingly in support of it for years. Yet we're still debating whether keeping our coastal cities from flooding is worth the negative impact on our economy. And that's with the dissemination of knowledge at an all-time high.
The normal state of the majority of humanity is complacency. As long as we're warm and our bellies are full, we don't want to deal with inconvenient truths. We're also too fixated on finding a technological fix for the problems we create with every new technology. As a people we need to change the way we live our lives, our relationship to our world. I'm not very optimistic we'll find the motivation to do that before things get so much worse that we'll have no choice, which may be too late. Then again, I grew up half expecting the world to end in a nuclear holocaust, or under a choking cloud of industrial pollution. We managed to find the wisdom to avert those man-made crises; maybe we'll avert this latest one in time.

Me too! Storn is the best. If all works out as planned, the interior chapter pages will also be by him, with each being a swipe/homage to a famous GA cover redone with Champs Universe characters. Superman shaking dudes out of a car, Captain Marvel Jr. smashing a stone swastika, maybe a Spirit cover with words written down the side of a tenement building.

Dr. MID-Nite reacted to Iuz the Evil in DC Movies- if at first you don't succeed...
Yeah, one of the great moments in the Donner Superman movies in my opinion was:
General Zod: He cares. He actually cares for these Earth people.
Ursa: Like pets?
General Zod: I suppose.
Ursa: Sentimental idiot!
Followed by "No! The people!"
That was both faithful to the core character concept and damn entertaining as a moral dilemma (if you battle them in the city, Clark, thousands will die... run away?).

The sheet doesn't have any notation of a focus that I saw, but I'll check again. He has powers without the suit, and uses the suit for protection, as I read it.
EDIT: OK looking him over again, he gets most of his stats from the suit too. I'll go over him and figure out what the build is. Unfortunately all they give is his stats and the OIF notification, so I have to reverse engineer the original stat and then how much the focus gives.
EDIT: Rebuilt him properly with his stats through the suit.

I don't know, genre burn out is a possibility, but then, there's a lot of directions you can take superhero movies if you have the guts to, and if you have good scripts. That's one of the reasons its such a shame Green Lantern failed. WB tried something more lighthearted than its Batman movies... as would be fitting I think. Now the real problem was the script sucked big time, and we were given a yellow poo monster instead of a villain with personality. But WB learned the wrong message, thought they needed to be 'oh so serious' and now the DC heroes are in grim/dark mode, or so it seems for the movie plans.
Marvel's got a winning formula so far, but yes, the formula could get too repetitive. In some ways , I think Captain America is the odd man out as he's not 'lovable jerkass learns valuable moral lesson and saves the day' like Tony, arrogant Prince Thor, or even the GoTG. He starts out as a really decent NICE guy...and they just add abs. It actually made him stand out in my mind. Though I'm very pro Cap so biased.
