archer
I doubt he can even hear us saying RIP if he's traveling the speed of sound. But RIP anyway....

Panpiper
The only tragedy in his life, is that he wasn't one of the seven. He shoulda been.
wcw43921
It's been a while since I read his autobiography, but from what I remember of it he didn't consider the Mercury missions to be actual flying, as the astronaut had little to no control over the spacecraft. I'm sure if he wanted to go on Mercury or Apollo, NASA would have taken him in half a heartbeat. He will be missed. Lord rest him well. IndianaJoe3
Quote Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth Of sun-split clouds, – and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of – wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there, I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air… Up, up the long, delirious burning blue I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace Where never lark, or ever eagle flew – And, while with silent, lifting mind I’ve trod The high untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand, and touched the face of God. -- High Flight, John Magee Steve, wcw43921 and tkdguy 2
