archermoo
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER A classmate and I spent the better part of one English class sawing some pill-shaped candies in half and putting the halves into beat-up plastic bags because we'd heard a locker search was going to happen' date=' and we were going to bait a couple of lockers with those. AFAIK the search didn't happen.[/quote'] Heh. Of course, with today's Zero Tolerance policies, you've been at least suspended, possibly expelled, and maybe even charged with a crime. Even after they realized that they were just candies.
AliceTheOwl
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER If you look at the picture of my front yard' date=' you can just see the house diagonally across the street (just above the top of the steps). Some nights, if I was up late watching TV, I'd regularly hear cars pull up and park in the street, and then drive off a few minutes later. Then one day my wife looked out the front window to see STAR Force (our version of SWAT) officers hiding behind every bush in our yard. They raided the house in the picture - the garage (at least) was sealed off and well-lit, if you get my drift. In fact the current owners can't use it as a garage, what you can see in the picture is the carport they were forced to build out the front because the garage is unusable. It wasn't until this raid that it clicked what the stop-and-go traffic was all about![/quote'] Yeah, we get the stop-and-go traffic, the odd police stops, and people stopping by to blast their horns at the place at 2 AM. You'd think they could at least try to be subtle and quiet about it, so as not to piss off the people who might call the police on them . . . I used to work with someone whose landlord had a drug raid while she lived there. Biggest bust the county had seen for a decade. She was horrified. Oh, and having forgotten to answer this on the first time around: At the Jr. High I went to in Minneapolis I regularly got offered drugs. As in at least 3-4 times a week. And if you think I'm nerdy now, I actually carried a briefcase in Jr. High. At least monthly we had locker searches that meant we had to stay in whatever classroom we were in for a couple of hours. And they generally made several arrests each time they searched. People that have never been to Minneapolis generally chuckle when I say that I used to live in it's bad part. People that have, don't. Well, I know people think of Cape Cod as an affluent area, with all rich people, nice beachside houses, and no poverty. I've seen where that doesn't apply, and it is NOT pretty. When I tell people I moved from Cape Cod, they remark it's nice to visit. I just smile and nod.

I suppose if I think of it tomorrow morning, I might snap a picture, but I haven't a clue how long it'll take me to get that somewhere where I might be able to post it. AliceTheOwl
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER We're just getting cold. Not record cold, just colder-than-the-last-few-decades-cold. Thank goodness for having grown up in New England, and having bought wool and lots of blankets to scatter about the apartment before I left. Otherwise I'd be shivering along with the rest of them. Shatters the standing single-month record, with over a week yet to go.[/quote']So that's where our rain has gone! So far this calendar year we have only had 50% of the average rainfall for the same period, have had a record dry winter (our records go back about 150 years), and are on track for the driest combined winter-spring period in nearly a century (the current low was set in 1914)
