Re: Longest Running Thread EVER

Email from our tech support crew, about going off Daylight Time in November:

Microsoft and Apple computers running fully patched operating systems will handle DST dates correctly.

Talk about unbridled optimism. I've never thought Windows dealt with time differences straddling a D/S time change properly.

The thing that gives me the giggles is ... what's the opportunity? For people to take headshots at faculty/staff? If so, as faculty, I'll arrange to be somewhere else at the time. But if it's an opportunity for faculty/staff to take headshots at targets they want, damn I want in on that action.

Re: Longest Running Thread EVER

It has come to my attention that this thread is being surpassed by Musings on Random Musings. We must not be overtaken, much less by a thread started by a fake lesbian!

Post! :whip: Post! :whip:

Put away your whip, Alice! In neither way are be being overtaken by Musings on Random Musings.

Re: Longest Running Thread EVER

So it's one of those cars we see on The Flintstones? :D

:P

It just has a complex system that allows both electric motors and the internal combustion engine (ICE) to provide power to the wheels, but without set gear ratios or a traditional transmission. It also does most of its breaking by running one of the electric motors as a generator and storing the energy in the batteries. It only uses mechanical brakes once the car gets down to ~7MPH, or if you slam on the brakes for an emergency stop.

Re: Longest Running Thread EVER

Though I suppose this could go into Random Musings, I suppose I'll post it here:

I am certain down to the core of my being that do NOT want to read anything in any thread whose title includes both of the words "lightning" and "penis". Any jokes that might be there are all too predictable; any snide comments about superhero origin scenarios are unspeakable; and I just don't want to contemplate whatever else there might be there.

Re: Longest Running Thread EVER

I'll save your curiosity as i happened to glance at it when it only had two posts. Apparently this poor guy was using a urinal when lightning struck. Since his boots were insulated the lightning grounded through his urine stream instead...

Well, except while the OP in the thread mentions a urinal, the original story he linked doesn't. And mentions it was a roadside toilet break. As it is much harder to get hit by lightning inside, I'm assuming he was peeing on the bushes by the side of the road.

Re: Longest Running Thread EVER

Hmm. I've avoided taking a shower while being in a thunderstorm on a mountaintop, and I recall one drop-dead-funny essay in Playboy about losing one's virginity by urinating on a hot-wire fence as a 9-year-old. I'll pass on the lightning, though.
