sinanju
Re: A Modern League of Extroardinary Gentlemen I think that we are missing one thing of the original LXG. Most of the characters where Villians in thier original stories. So Lechter isn't far from the mark...We need a reformable villian with supertech to match Nemo. Villains with Supertech: Ernst Blofeld--yeah, Bond kept beating him, but he kept coming back. HANK SCORPIO from the Simpsons, for sure. Mr. Gordons (robot villain from the Destroyer novels) "Friend" (computer villain from the Destroyer novels) Other possibilities for the Modern LXG: Modesty Blaise & Willie Garvin (they're a bit long in the tooth, but they definitely qualify as "reformed villains" given their histories). Nuihc (villainous Master of Sinanju)

zornwil
Re: A Modern League of Extroardinary Gentlemen It sounds like something Dave Mattingly would do. The problem with using Mork is that he's 70s, and the rest are 60s. Replace him with "Uncle Martin," though, and I think you might have something. Samantha Stevens would indeed be too powerful, but maybe one could use her Aunt Agatha instead. Wilbur Post, with Mr. Ed, could be a decent addition to round out the requirements of a con game. All that's missing is someone with a large vehicle to help the team get around (unless, of course, one assumes Martin finally got that ship fixed). Yeah, but My Favorite Martian is B&W and the rest are color! He'll never fit in... Actually I wouldn't be so concerned with strict decade. To me 1967-1977 is a way more coherent television decade than 1960-1970.
zornwil
Re: A Modern League of Extroardinary Gentlemen My take on a Modern LXG? Monk (Bullet Proof Monk) Hermione Granger (from Harry Potter) El Mariachi (Antonio Banderas from Desperado/Once upon a time in Mexico) Alex Cross (Morgan Freeman's Character from Kiss the Girls and Along came a spider) OR Lincoln Rhyme (the quadapaligic detective from The Bone Collector) Selene and Micheal From Underworld (need a Vampire and monster from somewhere As for the techno-genius... the only person I can think of is McGuyver... but he's not very recent now is he? hrm........ Ooooh, I really like the Monk choice! He even comes with a sidekick. Oops, and to BlackSword as well, ditto.
zornwil
Re: A Modern League of Extroardinary Gentlemen If I saw this on the Con menu, I would sign up immediately! Dibs on the Professor! I think I'm appropriately motivated! Good idea re Greatest American Hero, but isn't he pretty powerful? Sorry, that one I never really saw at all. Another possible addition - there was a comedy "detective" show with a robot and his human partner. I'm spacing on the actor who played the robot but he did a lot of stuff, including playing a role on Rockford Files. I'll have to find it later. BobGreenwade
Re: A Modern League of Extroardinary Gentlemen After a bit of thought, here's my pick for a modern-day LXG: The Bride [Kill Bill] Willow [buffy] Jarod [The Pretender] Cordell Walker [Walker, Texas Ranger] Teal'c [stargate SG-1] Darien Fawkes [The Invisible Man] And their patron, Jim Qwilleran [Lilian Jackson Braun's "The Cat Who..." series of novels]

Colossus
Re: A Modern League of Extroardinary Gentlemen Classic TV & Movies (late 60’s to 80’s) The Doctor (from Doctor Who): provides travel in TARDIS and knowledge, but often makes mistakes. · Jeannie (from I Dream of Jeannie): magic, but a little less organized then Samantha from Bewitched. · Daisy Duke (from Dukes of Hazard): good old girl charm, driving and ideas; she is actually more skilled then either of her cousins (all four if you count the scabs) · Robin the Boy Wonder (from the Adam West Batman Show): This Robin is a TV character, less skilled then Batman, but still useful · Thomas Magnum (from Magnum PI): Detective adventurer · Macguiver (from Macquiver): Tech Skills · Jamie Summers (from the Bionic Woman): Because, much like Daisy Duke she actually is better skilled than Steve Austin · Bob Dylan (I know he is a real person, but he would cement this group perfectly) WHY NOTS - A-Team: They work together well, one member alone is less useful - Michael Knight: No need with Magnum and MacGuiver, also if we stretch this into the 80’s/90’s there is the horrible possibility of Baywatch (the horror!) - Charlie’s Angels: One would help, but with Daisy Duke (who is simply more interesting) they are not needed. Now · The Doctor (from Doctor Who): he remains, a time traveler [who is coming back in 2005, so fits the current rule]; same basic role · Bob Dylan (Guy is still making great music, again cement) · Adrian Monk (from Monk): Truly the worlds Greatest Detective · Buffy Summers (from Buffy the Vampire Slayer): You simply need this character · Harry Potter (from Harry Potter and ….): Magic, and some understanding what he is doing · Hagrid (also from Harry Potter): Because it would be really funny watching him work in this group · Clark Kent (from Smallville): Not technically a superhero (yet). Powerful, but unsure of himself. · A female spy type (Alias or one of the movie Charlie’s Angels angels – any would fit). WHY NOTS - Neo (from the Matrix): From the future, not current - One of the Charmed Ones (from Charmed): No need with the Potter crew Another Detective: With Monk you do not need anymore

I always thought the actress who played her would have made a far better Emma Peel She was really cool, Miss Parker was a great character. I could definitely see her as someone who would aid but at the same time be a semi-enemy to a modern LXG. One of those "handle with care" allies of convenience/mutual interest. Guest Major Tom
Re: A Modern League of Extroardinary Gentlemen I think that we are missing one thing of the original LXG. Most of the characters where Villians in thier original stories. So Lechter isn't far from the mark. You just need to have the leader of the group rien him in, save for people that most deserving of being dinner for him. Another idea person for the group would be Jaws from the Bond films We need a reformable villian with supertech to match Nemo. For a monster we could have ether Flukeman or another interesting character from the X-files. People to ride heard over this bunch maybe Bond, Alias, or my fav, Mulder and Scully. Imagin the line that could be in the offing between Scully and Lechter. Hmm... You know, "Hello, Dana" just doesn't have the entertainingly creepy appeal that "Hello, Clarice" does when it comes to villainous creep-out lines in today's movies. BTW, as far as the effects of the Holy Grail (in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade) were concerned, the old knight told Indy that they only lasted as long as the Grail was not taken beyond the seal in the chamber outside his room. Once the semi-evil Austrian babe who had the Grail in her hands started backing across said seal, however, that pretty much undid everything. Oh, yeah, and as long as we're posting (more or less) bad guys for hypothetical membership in a modern LXG, I might as well post the following: Xander Cage a.k.a. Triple X (self-admitted criminal turned secret agent who does things that no sane person would even dream of doing). Yeah, I know he probably wouldn't be anyone's first choice for LXG membership, but any group like this needs at least one wild-a$$ lunatic who's willing to take things to the edge and beyond, right? Guest Major Tom
Re: A Modern League of Extroardinary Gentlemen Whoops! I knew there was someone else who just might fit in a modern version of the LXG: Max Dire (werewolf cop from the movie Full Eclipse; played by Mario Van Peebles) Hey, man, if a vampire cop can be considered for membership, then a werewolf cop should have the same chance, right?
