BobGreenwade
Re: A Modern League of Extroardinary Gentlemen John McClain (Die Hard) Johnny Smith (The Dead Zone) Karl Kolchak (The Nightstalker) Willow Rosenburg (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) MacGuyver This isn't a bad list. What if we were to throw in Michael Knight and KITT, and let Qwilleran be the group's patron?
KA.
Re: A Modern League of Extroardinary Gentlemen Yeah Steve Austin...just roll back the requirements to the 70's! You have to admit he fits. What? WHAT? WHAT? You need to just forget about that antique, bionic Bastard! If you want a team that can whoop some a$$, you need Stone Cold Steve Austin! I'd have already put a Stunner on the goons and be poppin open a beer before that washed-up astronaut got done making goofy electronic sound effects. And if you need somethin smashed, I won't need no "bionic arm" to get the job done. I'll just run over it with my Monster Truck! And that's the Bottom Line, cause Stone Cold said so! Sorry, I was channeling there for a minute. KA.
freakboy6117
Re: A Modern League of Extroardinary Gentlemen hmm if i was going to pick some one from buffy for a modern day league I'd probably take either Giles or Xander. actually id almost certainly go with Xander he woudl eb ideal for filling the mina murray positionon the team a relitivly normal person possesed of great personal strength and courage. who finds them selves constantly drawn to dark powers. plus imagine him in a few years with a rakish eye patch either in a sharp yet understated Saville row suit or a practical monster hunting outfit. like the idea of lecter im thinking electronic shock collar to keep him in line. i like jaws as the teams big brute.Tombes from the x files as the teams infilratrator. if you did want someone from harry potter can i suggest instead of harry proffesor Remus Lupin defense against the dark arts tutor and werewolf. UltraRob
Re: A Modern League of Extroardinary Gentlemen Actually, I think a problem is occuring here...The original LXG picked a year and stuck with that time period, aging the characters as necessary....I think it would be best to do that for a "modern" team as well. If you were to create modern LXG type teams, you should make them by era. So, logically speaking we'd have: Team 70's Team 80's Team 90's/2000's (I think these are best combined since it's only 2004.) Which I think would allow for more customization, they were the teams of their respective eras...although you could have older/younger versions of another era's heros involved as well. So, let's see, off the top of my head (and using some of your examples...) Team 70's Steve Austin (the 6 million dollar man) Columbo Thomas Magnum Dirty Harry Team 80's MacGuyver (of course! The MAN!) Michael Knight Manimal (don't remember his real name) The A-Team? (All of them, or perhaps just Hannibal Smith or B.A. Baracas?) Stringfellow Hawk (Airwolf's pilot) Nick Knight Starman or Mathew Starr Jessica Fletcher Team 90's+ Buffy the Vampire Slayer Harry Potter Beatrix Kiddo Hmm...I am such a child of the 80's....Any thoughts for the other teams? Doug McCrae
Re: A Modern League of Extroardinary Gentlemen I think that we are missing one thing of the original LXG. Most of the characters where Villians in thier original stories.True, but in those days only the bad guys had kewl powers so Moore was forced to dip in to em for a bit more colour. Pegasus
Re: A Modern League of Extroardinary Gentlemen It should be noted also that the intention of the League was to choose characters that were lesser known or supporting roles. Moore has said that was his intention, and that's why Sherlock wasn't in there, for example. I like the fact that other characters other than Buffy are being nominated, it keeps that spirit alive. MacGuyver? Maybe. James Bond? No.

Badger
Re: A Modern League of Extroardinary Gentlemen Actually you could explain Indiana Jones in modern times because he did drink from the Grail in The Last Crusade movie. Remember that knight was still alive after hundreds of years. There was no exact mention how long the effects against aging were or whatever. Hannibal could work in a Jekyl/Hyde type role, no he doesnt trasform into a brute. But he definitely has that uncontrollable-ness to him that Hyde had. Not sure what special abilities he adds though. I lkie Willow in there as she was a supporting character instead of the main. MacGuyver definitely has to be in regardless. Technical genius, master of innovation, yadda yadda. You could go with Chuck Norris from Walker, Texas Ranger. Though it was a bit of a bad movie you could add from the movie Congo one of those killer monkeys. They could provide some muscle. Also from Buffy you could add Faith- you know the whole redemption thing. Too bad we cant add sci-fi. I'd love to add that Feral Kid with the boomerang from the second Mad Max movie. Crackerjacker
Re: A Modern League of Extroardinary Gentlemen Daniel Jackson of Stargate SG-1 (a archeologist and expert on xenocultures) an aged Captain Kirk (statesman, leader, and marksman) I-Man (a modern day invisible man) Hellboy (the expert occult hunter, also fufilling Hyde's brute strength role) Sarah Connor (the "crazy" combat, sabotage, and survival expert) and to round the group off Jason Bourne (a moral but deadly assassin)

Ok, and Jethro, too. Mags Well, not exactly, but...lessee... The Flying Nun (btw, that show was under-rated, it had a lot of good moments despite some problems, seriously) Mork from Ork The Professor from Gilligan's Island (come on, he puts McGuyver to shame, except for, well, being ultimately useless in actually accomplishing getting off the island!) The Ghost from the "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" Nanny Lilly Picallilly Oh yeah I smell a dream team! You know, I could really imagine a campaign like this... hmmm.....Lemming, Lamrok, Chromatic - you know you want to... (I really would run this, hmmm, cheesy 60s/70s sitcom HERO...) NB - I left off Jeannie and Samantha Stevens as just too powerful.
zornwil
Re: A Modern League of Extroardinary Gentlemen Hmmm, back on this thread, you know, what about a con game such as the post directly above, done in HERO? I think it'd be fun...and that would motivate me to run a game at the local con. What do you, the viewer, think? (Hmmm, points for laughs around the table, too...yeah, I'm liking this )

(Hmmm, points for laughs around the table, too...yeah, I'm liking this ) It sounds like something Dave Mattingly would do. The problem with using Mork is that he's 70s, and the rest are 60s. Replace him with "Uncle Martin," though, and I think you might have something. Samantha Stevens would indeed be too powerful, but maybe one could use her Aunt Agatha instead. Wilbur Post, with Mr. Ed, could be a decent addition to round out the requirements of a con game. All that's missing is someone with a large vehicle to help the team get around (unless, of course, one assumes Martin finally got that ship fixed). SuperBlue
Re: A Modern League of Extroardinary Gentlemen My take on a Modern LXG? Monk (Bullet Proof Monk) Hermione Granger (from Harry Potter) El Mariachi (Antonio Banderas from Desperado/Once upon a time in Mexico) Alex Cross (Morgan Freeman's Character from Kiss the Girls and Along came a spider) OR Lincoln Rhyme (the quadapaligic detective from The Bone Collector) Selene and Micheal From Underworld (need a Vampire and monster from somewhere As for the techno-genius... the only person I can think of is McGuyver... but he's not very recent now is he? hrm........ Badger
Re: A Modern League of Extroardinary Gentlemen Got admit I wish I had remembered Denzel Washington from the Bone Collector. Being paralyzed does make him seem to fit in with this type of crew, even if he had to stay at base with some small spy-cams he could direct the rest in the mystery at hand. Would give much more flavor.
