Re: Looking for NEW words of transformation: (SHAZAM, Thunder! Thunder!...)

This thread is too long to go back and read them all. But in case no one else has said it, the Tick says, "Spoon"... as a rallying cry rather than a transformation word, but it seems to be relevant.

Never underestimate cuttlery.

"There is no spoon..."

Shazzan.

Like many HB cartoons of that time, great Alex Toth designs with fair-to-middling (or worse) plots and voice acting.

That's IT!

:hail:

Wow. I forgot the camel with wings. And it's apparently named "Kaboobie".

"Kaboobie". hee. that's my new word for today!

Re: Looking for NEW words of transformation: (SHAZAM, Thunder! Thunder!...)

I have a character named Jabberwock, and he's based on the poem Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll (poem is taken from Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There, 1872). He transforms into his hero form by reciting the line from the poem "Beware the Jabberwock, my son!" and returns to his normal form by reciting "So rested he by the Tumtum tree, And stood awhile in thought."

Guess it all depends on what your origin is based upon.

Be ashamed. All of this geekitude and pedantry, yet no one has mentioned

"O, mighty Isis!"

Ah yes, from the live-action TV series and comic book. On the series, Andrea had to wear her amulet openly to transform (once she dropped it and had to go back and find it), but in the comics she didn't.

The comic book also gave us the words to change back to Andrea. They were, as best as I can recall, "Ancient gods of time and space, put Andrea into her proper place".

And Wonder Woman didn't have to say anything... all she had to do was twirl around really really fast. :)

Mags

Kinda makes you want to see the TV show theme music used for an Ice-Skating program!

Of course Wonder Woman didn't have to say anything -- that's what the chorus was for!

"In your satin tights,

Fighting for your rights

And the old Red, White and Blue."

Back in the late 1980's, before the fall of the Berlin wall, I made up a character called "Captain Capitalism". He had huge amounts of Density Increase (he carried the weight of the American people), and his powers were greatly reduced in communist counties.

To activate his Instantchange, he would hold up an ordinary dollar bill and shout:

Caveat Emptor!

Kapitan Kommunist was his nemesis (although also a hero in his own land). His main power was Area Effect Power Transfer. His rallying cry was Russian for "For the people!", or something like that.

(We never actually ran a game with these characters. It was an experiment at writing up goofy 1000-point characters. I wish I could remember them all: it was a real hoot.)

I designed, but never wrote up, Captain California. His powers were limited to California, which had the right balance of "tapped but underutilized crystal energy" and smog (which kept the crystal energy from radiating into deep space).

He would have been fun to play, because in that campaign that I considered playing him, crystal energy actually became a serious issue and Captain California was really designed for comic relief. However, he could only be an NPC since the campaign took place mostly in New York City.

"When your crystal energies combine, I become... Captain California!!! Dude."

You might think about where the character gets his powers from if he is using a phrase to invoke them. The only character I ever ran who used triggering words was "Lancelot Steele - The Indestructable Man" who got his powers from the vaguely described "Gods Of Goodness". His "Power-Up Phrase" was:

Powers Of Might and Hope and Weal,

Turn me into Lancelot Steele!!

Corny, I admit but it fit the character and I have always been a sucker for rhyming couplets.

Re: Looking for NEW words of transformation: (SHAZAM, Thunder! Thunder!...)

In one of the game I ran, one of the PC's used the words:

RAY AL KOON!

(It's "nuclear" backwards).

Of course, then he would transform into his "Hero" ID which was so weird and non-euclidean that the PLAYER would start chanting like something out of a Conan movie for about ten minutes, just to weird people out.

Neat character...

Not a transformation word, but from the Destroyer novels - and I think it's actually a direct quote from one of the Hindu Vedas

"I am created Shiva, the Destroyer.

I am Death, the shatterer of worlds."

However, I agree with the person who suggested either "Schrodinger's Cat!" or else "Wave form" and "Particle form" to switch back and forth. That seems to fit the character.

Lucius Alexander

The palindromedary suggests "Sator arepo tenet opera rotas." To switch back, say it backwards.

By the power of the great kami,

In the name of love and justice,

I am:

Shining Warrior Cassandra!

That's the transformation incantation for a magical girl I'm playing.

Thanks, I am glad you liked him... But the chanting even got to me after a while!

(He was a mezoamerican version of Captian Marvel, and the chanting was comming from the spirits trapped in his magical vestments...)
