Re: Creepy Pics.

I don't know as this is "creepy", but it sure would scare the daylights out of me

ETA: Apparently, this is in Thailand. For once, Australia isn't the one with the deadly critters turning up everywhere!

Is it worse that there's a cobra in the toilet or poop on the floor?

(Because if I find a cobra in my toilet you can bet there's poop on my floor.)

It's just a snake, and not even a very large one at that. Grab a stick, get him out, pin his head to the floor, and then cut it off with a pocket knife. Or just shoot it with 12g from 5' away - either works.

Seriously though, I've twice pulled rat snakes out of the toilet. No big deal, although the wife has a very different opinion on the matter. I'd be more upset with roaches or mice in the house than a snake.

I would say that a great deal depends on precisely HOW one discovers that there is a snake in the toilet.

It's a cobra, not a constrictor. I'd escort a non-venomous snake peacefully outdoors, giving due consideration to the poor critter's plight at being in my privy. A spitting, venomous snake, one that secretes venom as if it was saliva rather than injecting it through a syringe-like fang, is not one that I would care to touch with even a stick.

Although I've never had a venomous snake as a pet, I have had numerous non-venomous ones. And I know several people that have or still do keep venomous snakes in their house or office - we wildlife biologists tend to be crazy that way. After a while, you just get used to them and don't think too much about it.

Well, not all cobras spit their venom... in fact, most don't. I have a lot of experience with snakes and handle them quite comfortably, but finding one in the toilet would probably make me jump.

Hots are dangerous even to the well trained, so I'd prefer to only handle them with the right equipment...

Fair warning, the video behind the spoiler tag might disturb some folks, but it's the creepy pics thread so what the heck :sneaky:

I've only dealt with rattlers and they're not so bad. Not being trained or anything' date=' I just scooped up the couple I ever had into a bucket using a squeegee with a 6' handle. And only because I needed to get the snakes out of there before all the cats got them.[/quote']

You can actually render most small to mid sized snakes pretty much harmless with the gentle application of a heavy book. They can't move it and it's not like they're dangerous at both ends ;)

Of course, my step father finds that a good shovel or barong works better, but they have a lot more dangerous snakes in the PI than we do in Chicago...

IIRC' date=' cats are immune to rattlesnake venom.[/quote']

Resistant, but they still get sick from it.

I need to get a couple barongs. ONe for my friend originally from the PI and one for me...

As bloodstone said, resistant. There were plenty of times we found bits of snake in the runs. Only twice that cats needed medical attention.

And we never killed the snakes, just took them out into the wilderness that's close by.
