Re: Alternate Earth #22—World of your Dreams

Starguard -- is a complete amnesiac, who's only been 'aware' a week or so.

The Black Mercy is going to have quite a time with her... *she* doesn't know what she wants. Because she doesn't know who she is. (And it's not just 'she doesn't know her name'. She doesn't know what her favorite foods are, or what posters were on her bedroom wall, or whether she liked alternative or pop.)

And she's too perceptive a young lady to fall for the simple trap of an imagined life with a name and story plucked from a hat. When you have Cosmic Awareness, and your mentor is the God of Truth, you tend to think in slightly different terms. She doesn't want just *a* life, she wants *her* life.

Dr. Pain -- OTOH, he's a very straightforward, worldly, down-to-earth kinda guy. And he's mostly satisfied with his life. So he'll simply be living the four-color, never lose, you are the biggest hero ever! version of what he does. Oh yes, and he'll also have found True Love.

Baron von Darien -- closes his eyes for a few seconds, deliberately lets himself enjoy the feel of the sun on his skin, the breath of air in his lungs, the beat of his blood in his veins, the touch of his wife's hand, the embrace of his young son, just one last time.

And then he opens his eyes, pulls the damn plant off his chest, and tears it to shreds in an epic rage. (When you have EGO 45, the Black Mercy doesn't hold you for long.)

Microman II: . . .tough question ( assuming it works ).

My best guess is, he'd be back in that splendorous light from the heaven he briefly visited. The Light of Truth resolving into an infinite flow of data, encompassing all that is, and allowing Microman to prove, without the faintest bit of uncertainty, that good wins in the end, life has meaning, etc.

Re: Alternate Earth #22—World of your Dreams

Oh, goodness...

Cyrande would dream of a Malva that never fell, and became the center of learning and rulership for the galaxy, reaching out for new worlds and uplifting them benignly into the Empire and the stars. At the edges of the Empire, the Golden Hunters and the AI ships patrol, guarding the galaxy from all outside invasion.

On Malva, the crown Princess enjoys her studies at the university, with her mentor on controling her powers working with her daily. And she's fasinated by the new Earth Superhumans, being pulled into the Empire to help, especially her roommates Starguard and Micro, while dreaming of the teacher of mystical threats, the Sun God Horus Re, whom comes to the palace to talk several times a week.

... The team had better pray that no one without high energy defense is nearby, because she's going to fight coming out of this dream with everything she has.

Re: Alternate Earth #22—World of your Dreams

Style - Has spent his life using magic and traveling the planes. He’s used to these types of traps. At first he’d dream an abstract trip through the planes, a meeting with the spirit of his mad, lost father, now finally at peace. However, clues as to what was really going on would work their way into the scene. Style would finally realize that this was a lie, perhaps guided by the “spirit,†and fight his way free.

AnimeGai – No subconscious. Non conciousness. No dreams.

Flesh Gordon – Not printable on a family bulletin board, but involves his time on the Planet of the Rather Pleasant People.

Re: Alternate Earth #22—World of your Dreams

It happened to one of my characters. A virtual life thanks to a big EGO attack.

It was a colective dream where the whole team was in our perfect world. One of them noticed that so he came to me a tryied to convince Dark Moon, my character. I knew it was a fantasy but Dark Moon didn't :).

Dark Moon is so timid and shy so when my teammate convinced me I said: "Sooo it's only a dream?? ;)". She flew to the house of a classmate she likes (they're 16 ys) and kissed him. After that she was invited by the government to give her the key of the city :D

But it ended when she went to her house and found her small brother (murdered in front of her two years ago). It was perfect for her, but she knew her brother is really dead. So she destroyed her house and tryied to leave this fantasy.

It was a good experience because I knew as a player it was a fake from the begining but my character wanted to stay there ^_^

Well Superbadger would probably have either A) his family back to life particularly mother, sister, mentor/trainer, and girlfriend. The ones who died at the hands of his archenemy that put him on his current path. Or B) He has grown to enjoy fighting and battle, so he might find himself in some dimension where he just fights a lot. Course there is a chance he might find a way to fight his way back.

Another member of the group would also be interesting

the more or less leader of the group Frosty Bob, his dream would probably consist of hundreds of scantily clad dancing girls (Note: Rest of this edited to protect the younger viewers :) )

Husky/Kenneth would dream of a future where the 2 personalities have blended into a physically powerful supreme intellectual. He would be a world leader followed out of respect not fear or oppression. The people of Earth would live in energy efficient environmentally friendly citysize buildings and small villages allowing the majority of the planet to flourish with natural growth. The Clarke family would finally realize the worth and scope of Kenneth's intellect.

Golden Eagle would live in a world transformed by his inventions. Poverty, war, and crime have been eliminated. No citizen needs for anything, and all are free to pursue their own happiness. Cold Fusion generators produce all the power and hydrogen that the world can consume, self replicating O'Neill Cylinders provide a home in space for anyone who wishes it, and work is progressing on the FTL ship, Friendship. Dexter Morache, nearly 70, is as fit as a 20 year old, thanks to advances discovered in the Morache Clinic. He plans to take the ship on its maiden cruise, and will be awakened by his teammates as his crew makes the jump to hyperspace...

Protector is also 70, fit but not impossibly so, and is enjoying a surprise birthday party at his karate studio in Harlem. All of his students have returned to tell him how his studio made their lives better, and inspired them to achieve greatness as scientists, business people, doctors, and congresspersons. They give him his old mask in a glass box, with the inscription "He made our world safe, so that we could make it just." His neighborhood outside is idyllic, cleaner than he would have thought possible, with no bars on windows, and only privacy locks on doors.

Bouncer is attending the premiere of his newest autobiographical picture, Bouncer IV: The Hunt for Dr. Destroyer. He is escorting his wife, Nicole Kidman, and his girlfriend, Selma Hayek down the red carpet, when he is approached by Maria Menounos, from Entertainment Tonight. Knowing their place as lesser celebrities, Kidman and Hayek take two steps back so that their man can conduct an interview. When Maria is finished, she leans in and whispers."I can't get last night out of my mind. As soon as the movie starts, meet me in the coat closet." His teammates will wake him just as he oopens the door to the coat closet.

Anthem has become a role model to young women everywhere as a result of her ultimate triumph over evils like Viper. Kids listen to what she has to say and she is respected as one of the world's foremost heroes. Because it's a perfect world and she can do no wrong, she now goes on talk shows and discusses the importance of learning, brushing your teeth, sayng your prayers, being respectful of others.

Uncle Slam has witnessed the world coming to peace and the end of facism and communism. His own government seems to be heading back into the direction the constitutional framers had in mind. As a result, he has opened relations with Atlantis which has remained hidden out of fear of the crazy surface people and is again united with the woman he met and left behind back in 1942 so he could fight for the cause.

Audra Blue is reliving the best day of her life, when she went to a baseball game with her best friend (now deceased) and sat in the stands and the home team won game 3 of the world series (on their way to a sweep), and all of the worst of life was behind her. Interestingly, she already does this on a regular basis because she's built a program that simulates the whole day so she can be with her friend again. This would be like that, except she'd be surprised to realize she couldn't log out. SIDE EFFECT: Thrilled that this is for real, she'd hit rock bottom when the team unplugs her and she realizes this was just like her online fantasy program; a sham.

Ghost Archer:

Archer would find himself traveling again with Thistle Grey, the soul mate he lost when she sacrificed herself to save him. Together they would relive her quest to become the avatar of her goddess, Ishtar, and this time it would not end with her death. It was the most perfect time in his life and the ending of the dream would leave him devastated.

Shidoku's father would never have been killed and she'd just Akiko, living in Tokyo with her family, possibly to inherit her father's dojo. Her life would be an odd mixture of typical Japanese college student and Karateka as her violent inner nature and powers would have to find some place in the dream world. Leaving the dream would send her on a binge of drinking and depression for quite awhile, part of her might urge her to seek out another Black Mercy...

Valkeyrie would be quiet, suburban housewife with lesser powers that worked in the library on weekends. She'd have two kids, three cats and a husband that bore a remarkable resemblance to her "love interest" Jerimiah. Her mother and father, now doting grandparents would visit often. The world would be idyllic and peaceful, protected by a group of Heroes called the Vindicators that she would secretly fantasize about joining but realize she wasn't cut out for. Leaving the dream would be hardest thing she'd ever do, but it would made somewhat easier by the fact most of her dream could be accomplished in the real world.

Tao's would be the strangest and that would likely be her key to escaping the illusion. It would be a mish mash of several people's ideals. In other words, the Freedom Fighter's collective memories melded either into a very surreal whole, or constantly switching. The only constant would be she'd have long flowing black hair. Tao is secretly a bit insecure about how appearance.

I did forget to mention the superbadger wouldnt want a peaceful world utopia w/o crime and war and poverty and strife, etc. Fighting these things gives his life purpose. Without them he would be obsolete. The irony is the end goal would probably be a nightmare. Guess he would have to go villain again in such a world. :)

Re: Alternate Earth #22—World of your Dreams

The Black Mercy would be an almost perfect trap for The Disruptor, since he is primarily motivated by his rage at the world for the way his life didn't work out the way it should have (long story that would involve a campaign spoiler). I can't discuss the nature of the trap -- but he'd probably kill whoever "rescued" him from it. He'd know it was an illusion and would prefer it anyway.

Re: Alternate Earth #22—World of your Dreams

The Mask of Justice : His inventor friend discovers that an alien taint is responsible for much of the evil in the world. The Mask helps with the process of exposing humanity to the Healing Ray, which drives out that taint. People exposed to the Ray retain their free will, but no longer feel compelled to choose actions that are harmful to themselves or others. A true Golden Age ensues, with the Mask becoming an explorer of the far reaches of the world, and eventually space.

Rock Bottom : Muhammed's father accepted him for who he is, and never disowned him. Rock still got his powers rescuing homeless kids from a chemical spill, but they include being able to switch between human and statue form. Oh, and he has a hot boyfriend.

Calculus : Never lost his powers, and is now the world's greatest detective. Somehow, he still met his wife and had a son.

Kira Midori : Never traveled through time. History remains as she was taught in school. She has never had to mind probe a pedophile, and the majority of crimes are committed by teenagers for the thrill of rebellion. Oh, and she's engaged to a nice young man.

Talion : The incident gave him the powerset of Silver Age Superman. Deluxe, as he is now known, is the Greatest Hero on Earth (tm.) He's the repected leader of the Defenders of Justice. (His former team is reduced to comic relief cameos.) There is just enough villainy and disaster in the world to keep Deluxe from getting bored. In Deluxe's Secret ID as a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, he lives an idyllic existence with his sexy wife and sturdy son.

Meanwhile, the Black Lotus Ivy is having a wonderful dream in which it has grown to encompass the entire Earth and embraces all of humanity.

Outside, the rest of Talion's team debates whether they should bother freeing him.

"Look at him. He's smiling. When was the last time you saw Talion smile?"

"Exactly! You know perfectly well that whenever something makes Talion happy, disaster ensues. We have to get rid of the thing."

"Me next! I want to try it! Can I, huh, huh?"

"Shut up, She-Cat."

Of course, the combination of Talion's deep pessimism and his regenerative powers would eventually taint the dream. Deluxe's wife runs off with another man, his son overdoses on drugs. Deluxe's powers begin to fade, and he's voted out of the DoJ. The villains go from wacky themed robbers to murderers and rapists. Street crime hits an all time high, and Deluxe struggles against it but the prisons are sieves. His books are burned, and the Pulitzers revoked. Nuclear war is imminent when Talion is finally awakened.

And then, just as he starts to feel relieved, the first bombs drop ...

If the world seemed to turn into a utopia' date=' Codename: Enigma (a govt. super-agent) would would report to Shadow Intelligence HQ to be placed in suspended animation until such time as he's needed again.[/quote']

Most likely Enigma would be in a world where he was routinely going out driving out the forces of darkness and being a critical linchpin for the defense of the world.

Technomancer would likely dream of a world where the human race through a perfect blending of science and magic created a world utopia where everyone was on his mental level. Where people stopped acting like a bunch of idiots and did everything in an intelligent sensible manner.

Of course Tenchnomancer's AI/familiar would be busy trying to hack through the Black Mercy's illusion and introducing inconsistancies to help its master shake off the illusion. For that matter, Technomancer's own mind would start wondering why it saw all this perfect technomancy around him and he couldn't figure out why he didn't understand how it worked.

Nephila would likely dream herself in Heaven, the Angel that gave her her powers having not fallen to Hell and instead reascended to Heaven and taken her with it.

Yes, and that plant was named -- the Black Mercy. :)

This thread was so totally inspired by that story. We even acknowledged our source by keeping the name.

Alan Moore sure wrote a good 'un. And the JLU episode based on it was even better.

Re: Alternate Earth #22—World of your Dreams

Cannis grew up in a world where mutants are not subject to prejudice or persecuted but rather seen as an elite and treated with celebrity and reverence. By day she is a renowned scholar in para-genetics and zoology and a beloved gymnast who has made a fortune from her abilities. Rarely, and just for the fun of it, she engages in “impossible†thefts. And even that aspect of her has become a bit of a legend with several books and movies featuring the brilliant and crafty thief. Her father never went to prison and both of her parents are still alive and doing well. She visits them regularly. Adam sought her out because he was impressed with her talents and abilities and they are currently dating. The rest of her teammates also play a significant role in her life, though primarily associate socially rather than working together as criminals. And of course, she still has a pack of enhanced dogs that she considers friends and practically family. She will be depressed about being awoken from such a pleasurable fantasy, but since overall she is happy with her life, it won’t have as painful of an effect on her as it would on some others.

In Sailor Io’s dream world, the Moon Kingdom never feel, and the Mah-ki were never banished. Instead, a way was found for the Mah-ki and their human families to live safely on the Moon and the Moon Kingdom is now a shining home for members of all the races. The Moon Kingdom is once again considering reestablishing relationships with earth, and a group of young nobles, the Senshi are being trained for that task.

Io and her friends are currently attending a special high school, where in addition to a standard education, they are trained in the use of their powers, tactics, and diplomacy. Io, a star student, is being groomed for a leadership role. She and her betrothed knight, Bladestar, are deeply in love and their relationship is going very smoothly as are the relationships of her various friends. Vash still lives and is one of their teachers. Io has a bit of a crush on him and respects him a great deal.

As logical as Io is, she may well start noticing certain discrepancies in her vision as her friends try to free her from the Black Mercy. Once she is free, she will be depressed for a while but ultimately the vision may well provide her with a goal. Maybe the Moon Kingdom doesn’t exist now, but perhaps it can be recreated and the glorious world she saw can eventually exist, if they try hard enough.

Re: Alternate Earth #22—World of your Dreams

Menagerie's parents never rejected her and saw her mutation as a blessing not a curse. In this world, mutants are the chosen of God and seen as prophet's and heroes instead of a scourge. She was raised and groomed for leadership in the civil and religous and chosen to be the wife of a prominent mutant named Paragon and is currently carrying his child. A child whom precogs have seen great things for. The inconsistencies would include her sudden fervent religous faith and the strange lack of violence in this world.

Pinnacle's "dream" world would ironically be much the same as her real world. She loves her powers and helping people. She'd just be more powerful, more respected and her costume would be more concealing. It would be a more Golden Age world full of costumed nutcases that were more misguided than truly dangerous where she and her team are the equivalent of the Justice League/Superfriends.

Stopwatch's dream world would be simple. Her mother never died, she and her dad work together in the auto shop and race cars on the weekends. And she never got her powers.
