Michael Hopcroft
Rhapsody has a specialty playlist of 50 great (or just plain odd) Beatles covers. I love a good Beatles cover so I have selections from that on right now. Currently it's Earth, Wind & Fire's brassy take on "Got to Get You Into my Life", one of the two really great tracks on the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band movie soundtrack (the movie is a great example of what happens when you try to make a movie while coked out of your mind). There's also Eddie Vedder's evocative cover of "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away" from the I Am Sam soundtrack, Billy Joel playing "Back in the USSR" live in Russia, a rare Roseanne Cash performance of "I Don't Want to Spoil the Party", Aerosmith's hard-rocking take on "Come Together" and a heart-wrenching cover of "In My Life" from the a dying Johnny Cash. I'm looking forward to Jerry Lee Lewis blowing the doors off with "I Saw Her Standing There" as he did with just about everything he played.... Michael Hopcroft
AN old friend posted a "Christmas" (and, presumably, "Christian") version of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah". Somehow there's something vaguely sacrilegious in Christianizing that song, the howl of pain of someone no longer capable of belief. So I thought I'd show you the real thing. Including the marks of time and pain on the man's face and in his voice.

Michael Hopcroft
Had a hankerin' for some Bob Seger (notably Feel Like a Number and Her Strut) and went to youtube. Youtube failed me. Went to Spotify,...nope I imaging that's his label being proactive about "unauthorized distribution" (which is why you can't find it on Youtube) and not having an agreement with the streaming services. (There are only a few Seger tracks on Rhapsody, which is who I subscribe to). It took almost two decades for the rights holders to the Beatles to reach an electronic distribution deal with anyone (they chose Apple, which is to this day the only legal outlet for electronic versions of their albums).
