WWYCD: The Anonymous Tipster

Over the course of a few months, you and your associates have been recieving anonymous tips over the phone that have helped you systematically dismantle a major criminal organization in your campaign city, leaving only the big boss and his inner circle at large. Finally, the tipster came through with the location of their safe house and the bust goes down without a hitch, but one thing still sticks out in your mind. When the question of the tipster's identity came up in the phone converstation, his only reply was to laugh bitterly and say, "When you see that no good snake, give him a message for me: tell him his old pal Nick said this is payback for Bangkok and that I'll see him in Hell. He'll know what your talking about." The tipster then hung up.

After the bust, you find out the crime boss in question did at one time have a partner by the name of Nick, who disappeared 10 years ago in Bangkok and was beleived to have met with foul play, though nothing was ever proven. Tracing the call leads you to a payphone downtown, and the member of your group with the appropriate sensory abilities tells you he/she is sensing a residue of ectoplasm on the phone's handset and keypad. As if you need further proof, a check of surveillance footage from a nearby store's security camera shows no one entering or leaving the phone booth during the aproximate time the call took place. Jessica - Wait for someone with science skills to get all the good ideas and then beat up whatever needs beating up.

Silence - The dead aren't resting in their afterlife, or perhaps never passed on. She would feel the need to track down the undead entity and guide it to its Final Rest. That's what she does after all, and she doesn't like the idea of souls being out of place, it's all messy and interferes with the Living.

Mr. Terrific would add this incident to his files of "stuff to look at someday". Without more information from the crime boss or evidence of further "ectoplasmic" activities, however, it's not going to make it onto his active-study list anytime soon.

Starguard -- can both see and talk to ghosts. Help him move on to his just reward after he finishes atoning.

Dr. Pain -- shake his head and mutter something about how, yet again, his life is looking like a 'Buffy' rerun.

Baron von Darien -- a vengeance from beyond the grave? This is where the Baron came in. :)

Re: WWYCD: The Anonymous Tipster

Soulbarb would have been wondering if this tipster had been using her so that some other criminal element he supports or controls could move into the power vaccuum. If he's really dead, though, that seems a little less likely. Still, there's one way to check for sure... if the tipster has any association with Hell or is even destined to go there now that he's sluffed off his mortal coil, Camuranima would almost certainly have a very good idea of who he is and what he's been up to, including any parts he didn't mention. Whether Soulbarb could convince Camuranima to part with the information would be another question, of course...

Cerulean is a mage, but the afterlife of this world is not exactly his specialty. Still, with a bit of research, he could probably find the guy again if he needed to. On the other hand, he's not as naturally suspicious as Soulbarb, and unless the guy calls further attention to himself or one of his teammates thinks it's important, Cerulean probably has little reason to follow up on this.

Snapdragon Wouldn't really care, she knows ghosts and spirits exist and would move on.

Quantum Would spend a good deal of spare time trying to figure out what really happened because ghosts just don't seem logical to him and there has to be annother reaason for this.

Heaven's sword Would at first be reassured that spirits do exist from beyond the grave then would fall in a depression as he'df come to the conclusion that his family didn't care enough to intervien in the pain and hurting that wasd his childhood.

Re: WWYCD: The Anonymous Tipster

multi-discipinary approch called for here.

First, just because the security camera didn't see a living person using the phone doesn't mean that no one did. Snow Leopard, having inheirated all of Wolverine's enhanced senses, is the best to check out that possibility.

Second, the trace is not necessarily accurate, or the call could have been relayed through that pay phone. Iron Will is the one of my characters best qualified to check out that possibility. Also, ironically, is the one best able to judge the authenticity of the ectoplasm.

If evidence of a living tipster turns up, will watch in case he tries to move into the power vacuum. If not, will try to make preporations in case the next ghost the encounter is not so benevolent.

Glarg:I hope nobody wasted time trying to explain this to him. ;)

Panweesio:Would have assumed all along that this was a rival catspawing the heroes (or the big boss tossing pawns to the wolves to get the heroes in his grasp). The whole "ectoplasm" c:hush::hush::hush: would be ignored as nonsense; no-one knows better how easy fooling Detects can be. Since it looks like it was a rival catspawing, Panweesio is immediately looking out for Mr. Toastyghosty to move into the "vacuum."

Thena:In the campaign she's in, it is a LAW OF NATURE that everyone is reincarnated. Thena is one of the few, few people to know this for a total fact. It takes just a few days to come back. So Thena knows it's all a fake. Like Panweesio, she'd be looking for who moves into the power vacuum.

Lana van Hoom:Same campaign as Thena, but Lana doesn't know reincarnation's a law of nature. She'd be fascinated by this ghost biz. She'd use her money to help the team find the ghost. If she had to flip to an other, she'd hope that other had mystic powers. The reaction of the other would depend on powers, Psych Lims, etc.

Penumbra would consider this yet another funky supernatural incident in a long line of the same. Honestly, this sort of thing -not this exact thing, but you get the idea - happens just often enough to elicit "Huh. 'Nother ghost needing closure. Wish they'd find an actual PI for this s***e, instead of my trench-wearing self." Pen would very much like the supernatural to be a pleasant sidenote in his life, instead of the steady diet it is now.

Queen of Spades would only roll her eyes, makes a few notes to watch the recently-vacated area, and call it a day. Vibora Bay is a mystically-active city, and she's got her hands full with the non-mystic nuts.

Of course, if it still bothers her, there's Brother Thunder and Sister Rain. They have better backgrounds on this sort of thing.

Dr. Damascus, having had a ghost as a team member for a few months, would hope that this was the key to the lost soul moving on. But he would do some more research just to make sure...

The Paladine: Well, my job here is done. The criminal elements are off the street and the spirits have made the call. All I can do now is hope they did not call collect, for the toll from the other side is a steep one and the tool gate guy is not someone you would want to short change. You wouldn't want to give him an extra $5 and pay for the guy behind you either. He hates it when you do that.

Senor Mysterio: Similar to Dr. Damascus, but without having had a ghost on his team he would have less places to start.
