TheQuestionMan
The “Unofficial” Ultimate Mentalist Project (Fan Version “What Do *You* Want To See?”) Disclaimer: To DOJ, this is not intended as a slight against your fantastic staff. It is simply a Fans desire for more Hero Products NOW! Rather than later. Fan Contributions encouraged. I am not a Hero System Guru and my breadth of knowledge on the subject is not as large as I would like, but Mentalists have always been something of a bogey man in RPG campaigns. There is a great Digital Hero Article on the subject that I believe should go into the The Ultimate Mentalist. With Allen’s Psychic Wars indefinitely delayed I hope that this Gaming Community, one of the most creative I have encountered might be able to kick start this. Blue
Re: The “Unofficial†Ultimate Mentalist Project (Fan Version “What Do *You* Want To See?" Since I think Mind Control in Hero is the hardest thing to ajudicate, and with all the save rolls, you can never get the target to do what you want, I'd think judicious application of Mind Control would be helpful. Plenty of examples always help.
ghost-angel
Re: The “Unofficial†Ultimate Mentalist Project (Fan Version “What Do *You* Want To See?" Champions 3D dealt with some of this as well. Dream Time Projection ? Mental Illusion? or Mind control? or Transform? - BTW was this what you were refering too? Austrailian Dreamtime http://www.crystalinks.com/dreamtime.html or The Cell http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0209958/ Dream Eavesdropping ? Telepathy with Limitations. Dream Manipulation ? Transformation comes to mind. We need a HERO GURU! QM
megaplayboy
Re: The “Unofficial†Ultimate Mentalist Project (Fan Version “What Do *You* Want To See?" That sounds interesting. How about an example? well, the original idea I had was just to make breakout rolls contested, EGO vs. EGO rolls. So, if the mentalist makes their ego roll by 6, for example, the target has to beat that roll. this would be in circumstances where the mentalist is actively engaging the power(that is, they aren't using the power, then moving on to another target). So long as the mentalist is focusing on maintaining the power, it's much more difficult for the target to break free. the alternative is to make the whole thing skill vs. skill, so the mentalist rolls the dice of mental power and divides the result by five, adds it to his ego roll, then compares it to the difficulty required to beat the target's resistance. Dust Raven
Re: The “Unofficial†Ultimate Mentalist Project (Fan Version “What Do *You* Want To See?" Expanded Effect Tables... like jumping in increments of 5 instead. I'll second this. I'd also like to see, thought probably already gonna be in there, how Mental Powers can affect Interaction Skill use (this was in the original, so I'm assuming it'll be in there again). A discussion on the Mental Sense Group and a presentation of a number of new applicable Senses. I'd really like to see how Power that sometimes act as Senses interact with the Sense Group/Sense rules, such as Telepathy and Clairsentience, and under what condidtions a character who's invisible to the mental group can and can't be scanned with Telepathy. Most importantly, a more detailed explination of how Classes of Minds work, interact and options for using them and customizing them for your game. Sounds like a lot of extra work, but I can see how it would jive with the Sub-Genre. Nice Optional Rule though.
BobGreenwade
Re: The “Unofficial†Ultimate Mentalist Project (Fan Version “What Do *You* Want To See?" In the official thread, I'll probably have lots of suggestions. For now, though, I'll just ask for lots and lots of "Mental Power Based On [another Characteristic]" examples. Super-Presence and Super-Comeliness can be two really powerful and interesting areas, especially in Heroic-level games.

Great Ideas, but you could always "ARCHIVE IT HERE" and then we could go over it and work out any unlikely bugs. My favourite Table was the Aura Table of colours and their meanings. I think I will try to hook Susan into this discussion too. "Susano" Anyway... the gist of the section was simulating the wireless networking the characters used in GITS. Basically, most everyone has a cyberbrain, which is an implanted microprocessor allowing one to manipulate certain forms of data. Cyborgs, for example, have cyberbrains assisting in running their bodies, while others may have cyberbrains loaded with various language programs, skill sets, databases, and the like. A cyberbrain can be hacked, and controlled remotely. Thus, one sees the possible list of powers: Attack: Ego Attack Counter-Measures: Ego Attack with Trigger or Damage Shield Attack Barrier: Force Wall Data Encryption: Mental Defense Cyberbrain Scan: Mind Scanning Data Access: Telepathy Remote Control Of A Cyberbrain: Mind Control Cyberbrain Input Override: Images or Mental Illusions Secure Datalink: Mind Link Cyberbrain Input Override II: Invisibility As you can see, there is a lot of room to work on this idea.
