Re: If Foxbat is like an evil Batman...

Arguably, Champions Battlegrounds "Let's go to the Maul" had some amusing twists. Foxbatboy could be a deranged boy wonder. Foxbatgirl could fill in for Harley Quinn. In older editions, Foxbat had a gardener/butler who might stand in for Alfred if a GM wanted to take it that way.

I really need to update her to 6th Edition sometime, but if you enjoy Foxbat related things, I did once make a character called Batfox to be his nemesis.

You can find a thread about her at this link HERE!

She could possibly stand in for the "dark reflection" (or in this case, heroic reflection) angle

Designer's Note

Batman is a serious, even grim character. Batmite exists to leaven Batman's world with a little humor and whimsy.

Foxbat, by contrast, is a character often played for laughs. Foxbatmite tries to inject a little gravity and sometimes even a sense of responsibility into Foxbat's world.

Foxbatmite, from the twenty fourth and a half dimension.

(-1/4)

Notes: This power allows any character or object within 5 km of the Zornwill Device to miraculously escape death or destruction, provided that any of the players can come up with a plausible explanation. The car you thought was totalled? Just a little body work, replace the windows, and it will run again! Things like "Okay, the character's dead, but his identical twin comes to town to avenge him!" are cheap and cliched, so if allowed at all they should probably only be used once (after all, how many twins can one person have?) "I wasn't brain-dead yet, and the paramedics revived me" works too, maybe more than once, but the more often a rationale is used, the less plausible it will sound. The fact that it will not restore the character to "perfect health" is quite deliberate. In many cases, the character WILL be heavily damaged and need time (or help) to heal up; even in cases where the SFX is something like "That was an imposter; I am the REAL Super Tabby!" the time it would take for the BODy to heal represents the time before the player will be permitted to make such a revelation and resume playing the character

Background/History: A powerful creature from another plane of existence, the being normally known as Foxbatmite has taken an interest in Foxbat. Most observers are puzzled as to why, but Foxbat himself of course takes it for granted that he is the most fascinating character in the Champions Universe.

Personality/Motivation: Wherever it comes from, Foxbatmite obviously regards Foxbat as supremely important, to the point that it consistently refers to “Foxbat's World” or “The Foxbat Dimension” or “The Foxbat Zone” to differentiate the campaign reality from the “Twenty Fourth and a Half Dimension” that Foxbatmite calls home. It seems to regard itself sometimes as Foxbat's disciple and sometimes as his mentor, and alternates between praising Foxbat's insanity as brilliance and excoriating him as stupid or careless.

Although strongly approving of Foxbat's sense of fun, playfulness, and humor, Foxbatmite itself seldom laughs and almost always speaks with great earnestness.

Quote: (About Foxbat): "You mock him, yet the sages of Foxbat's World have said 'If it were not laughed at, it would not be the Way.' He has seen the truth of his world more deeply than anyone - and that knowledge makes him free."

(To Foxbat): "Long the way I have come to help you, Fred. I was a Seeker, but I have found you, O Sacred Clown."

(About Foxbat, while looking the player characters up and down): “Yes, he thinks he lives in a comic book. Have you looked in a mirror lately and thought about what gives him that impression?”

Powers/Tactics: The “real” Foxbatmite is probably permanently inaccessible. What the characters will encounter will be the physical manifestation of the powers Foxbatmite uses to project its consciousness into a three dimensional reality. This manifestation has 20 DEF that is twice Hardened, a BOD of 6, and OCV and DCV of 8. Whether called magic or technology, Foxbatmite also has access to a bewildering variety of Powers from the 24th and a half dimension, often in the form of devices miraculously produced from the Foxbatmite Utility Belt.

Campaign Use: Deus ex Machina to bail Foxbat out when he's in danger, or perversely derail Foxbat's latest "Master Plan" if Foxbatmite disapproves of the direction it's taking.

Appearance: Yoda in a Foxbat costume. This is not the real being of course, but who can describe something that exists in twenty four and a half dimensions? But the projection of this entity's consciousness into "The Foxbat Dimension" resembles a foxbatmuppet.

Adventure Seeds:

Where in the world is Foxbat?

Foxbatmite comes to the characters for help. Foxbat is missing! Normally Foxbatmite can find always find

Foxbat, but not now. Has he left the planet? The dimension? Or have sinister forces captured him, forces that can even block the perceptive powers of Foxbatmite?

Foxbat must not fail!

Foxbatmite uses the Foreshadowing power to reveal a disastrous potential future to the player characters. This is what awaits the world – unless Foxbat's current Master Plan succeeds. Is Foxbatmite, self confessed student of tricks and tricksters, trying to fool the heroes into not interfering? If the extradimensional imp is to be believed, should the heroes play along – or try to stop Foxbat anyway and then try to overcome the foreseen catastrophes?

Foxbat must be stopped!

Foxbatmite confesses to a serious miscalculation. Not only has the 'mite allowed Foxbat to acquire an artifact (“It's hung around his neck, you can't miss it”) that neutralizes Foxbatmite's own Powers (A massive Personal Immunity Naked Advantage, on a Focus, if you want to write it up) but also one that enhances his own abilities over time (“That one looks like a lollipop, if lollipops were made of sunbeams and rainbows.”) Worse yet, the latter is making Foxbat more powerful every day. “That kind of power is not good for him, it will ruin the Master Plan!” Can the heroes stop a Foxbat who is gaining all the powers of twenty four and a half dimensions – before it's too late?

Let's see ...

Mr. Freeze could have a gun that shoots ice cream and ice cream toppings.

The Penguin could be a penguin. No super powers, just this penguin.

Guys like Calendar Man and the Mad Matter are already kind of in that goofy vein ...

Poison Ivy could have literal poison ivy powers ... she can't control plants, she just touches you and makes you itch.

Rep to Lucius for Foxbatmite.

The Foxbat Family is growing larger. I suppose there could be a Foxbatdog too, or maybe it would be a Foxbatcat. :)

Taking all the Silver Age Batman and TV series fun and re-imagining it as part of a "Foxbat Family" could make for an entire campaign subplot.

So far Foxbat just has Kitty, but I could easily grow his group of followers with suggestions from this thread. Since Icons gain their powers from their costumes, I could give him access to extra costumes for Foxbatgirl, Foxbatboy and others. Kitty is already wearing one.

I wonder what a heroic version of the Joker could be like.

Anyway, inspired by another thread, I'm working on creating the Foxbat Five, to mirror my PC team, the (new) Fabulous Five. So far, the plan is to have Foxbat hangout with four hot superbabes. ;)

The "Create a Hero Theme Team" thread recently spawned a team of clowns.

This was my contribution:

Kushali appears as a Sacred Clown of the Pueblo Indians, typically wearing only a loincloth and with a body decorated in alternating black and white stripes.

He can mimic the power of anyone else in combat, usually announced with the phrase "Look at you!" just before mocking the villain by exhibing a clownish version of their power or using their power in a clownish way.

Against a typical big destructive brick, for instance, Kushali would begin "Look at you!" then stomp around waving his arms and roaring like a rampaging dinosaur, usually taunting the brick into charging - and meeting the charge, making it a Mutual Move Through.

Against a villainous martial artist, Kushali would shout "Look at you!" then do some acrobatic but comically exagerrated moves based on those the villain uses, and if the martial artist attacks, Kushali will deftly sidestep and trip.

Against a mentalist using Mind Control, Kushali will raise his hands and wiggle his fingers, and strings will appear over the mentalist connected to his limbs, forcing the mentalist to dance while Kushali (who can mimic voices easily as well) cackles "Dance, puppet, dance!"

Villain uses nets or webs to Entangle - Kushali will tie them up with silly string.

Sometimes, Kushali will cause someone's powers to fail in amusing ways. Against a flying powered suit, Kushali may say "Look at you!" then leap into the air and swoop around in a loop de loop, saying "I've got this wonderful armor that lets me fly! Those clowns on the ground can't touch me! But wait a minute....did I remember to top off the fuel tanks before coming here? Oh no!" Kushali dives, and rolls out of it harmlessly with Breakfall...but the hapless armored villain may not be so lucky.

Besides the villains, Kushali also sometimes mimics the powers of the other Clowns, but again usually in ways that make fun of them. If imitating Chuckles' bag of tricks for example, he reaches behind himself and under his loincloth, apparently pulling something out of his

Why would four hot superbabes hang out with him? Would he be able to restrain his lechery long enough to get any villainy done?

Re: If Foxbat is like an evil Batman...

Why would four hot superbabes hang out with him?

He said they were hot, not smart.

That said, I created a Foxbat Five in my campaign world. (Why five? Because that's one more than the Fantastic Four, so obviously Foxbat's crew is even better.) Other than Freddie, the other members are Exo-Skeleton Man, Harmonious Fist, and Dot, with the final position a "floater" that changed every now and then when the whim struck me. For most of last campaign, that member was Garble, a mentalist who can scramble a target's mind, senses, or ability to control powers. Foxbat was the only person who could understand what the heck Garble was saying most of the time.

And I added Hermit's Batfox to my campaign world as well. She isn't part of the Foxbat Five, instead acting as sometimes-ally, sometimes-foe of Freddy and company. I think I'll have to add Foxbatmite to the cast in my next Champions campaign.

I ran an adventure once where Foxbat was going to kidnap Adam West and Burt Ward at a shopping mall opening, for which the Foxbat Five all dressed as villains from the 1960s TV show. That was a real hoot, especially when the heroes (completely independent of the villains) decided to dress as the exact same villains to foil Foxbat once they figured out his goal. I was particularly proud of Foxbat's Costumeatron (used to put Adam West and Burt Ward into their proper costumes, and to try and put one of the male heroes into the Batgirl costume) and the Photonic-Optical Waveform (POW) generator, used to project visual representations of various sound effects.

Sorry for waxing nostalgic. Please carry on.

That's half the fun of it. ;) It's more or less a PR stunt and a way for Foxbat to feed his ego. And, hey, so long as they're bringing in enough money to make putting up with Foxbat worth the effort ... though I have every intention of them kicking him out at some point, preferably deserting him at the worst possible moment ... like when facing down the PC team in a revenge grudge match. :)
