  1. Re: Creating a Shadow Demon Nice list Ice9 ! You covered anything I was going to suggest and added a bunch more that I like!
  2. Re: Vampire wait, wouldn't it be easier to buy the base powers that the vampire wanted then throw on the variable special effect adavantage? That way he could buy 2d6 hka and with vse he could define it as claws, mouth, bony elbow, or what not. maybe flight and usuable as second movement(could he buy this advantage mulitiple times) to represent flight, swimming, or gliding? In watchers of the dragon, Steve Long shows that with the variable special effect and limitations on a power like HKA, you can create a cheap VPP.
  3. Re: Help Me Populate: The Undead Asylum Or how about the guards were alive with the darkstigmata and they get recruited, or forced to be guards of the asylum, even after the first death?
  4. Re: Star Wars Hero: Why should I? (or not) Really? Item 1) Increase the staring dice a group of jedis start out with. As for speed and actions. On the surface Hero does have the adavantage here. But then depending on heroic vs superheroic builds can have an effect on speed. not saying that it isn't possible, but I haven't seen too many heroic builds past speed 4. And if you want the Jedis to be more competant, give them more dice, force points and character points. Item 2) Change it. Item 3) Change it. as with item 2, you can always can a rule or delete it. As Steve Long once posted to me, its not like the Gaming Police are going to jump out and arrest you if you change a rule. (Well at least hero wouldn't at the time!) Now again where hero is better, especially if your unsure of change, is by having a point system, things should be easier to spot balance, but as we know, that still isn't fool proof. Item 4) Maybe if the aliens are rubberskinned, yeah they're fairly simple. Anyhthing complex, WEG is absolutely easier. Lets see to make an alien, you just put down what the racial min/max is (remember that human is 2d/4d so you shouldn't go much higher, and if one stat is higher another should be lower) give it special abilities, and by that you right down what it does, and try to give it story factors to even it out. Note that the shoulds are guidelines not a rule. WEG creation is way easier to abuse, but still alot easier to do than Hero system. And no restrictions? There is none in WEG, in hero technically there is none, but lets be reasonable, your not going to give someone a carte blanc in character creation. tHere are certain builds that can wreak havoc with a game. I once built (for a supers game) a ghost-like character that had desolid-affects physical world, and then I added life support while my character was desolid. He never had to become solid during the game. Item 5) Again add dice as you want. Now I'll give you a reason why WEG can be superior to Hero. Do to its fast and loose nature, you can adapt, create, and change on the fly. If you don't like it fine, then its not your cup of tea.
  5. Re: Star Wars Hero: Why should I? (or not) No-its only as difficult as the Gm and player makes it. Using hero has some better guidelines, but that doesn't mean that it can't be done in WEG. Btw, you still have to determine what value you choose some of the things a half-wookie has. You can buy life debt at minor, major, or total unless a GM detrimines what it should be, but between two different GM's the value could be different.
  6. Re: Star Wars Hero: Why should I? (or not) He survived the Sarlacc because of the novel Bounty Hunter Wars-which then became cannon.
  7. Re: All ghosts evil? Lucius have you read Deut 18:10-12? And it talks about how necromancers, charmers, those with familiars (is a palindromedary a familiar?), etcetera are an abomination unto the LORD? And the translation is well backed up?
  8. Re: Help Me Populate: The Undead Asylum Well evry asylum, prison or such needs guardians, and or wardens. Whats to stop them from being corrupted, crazy, evil, or all of the above? Maybe they're golems, but hte magic is getting warped?
  9. Re: Victorian "lost world" Hero System introduction For Randal Irons, I would squeeze in combat luck at 3pd/3ed somewhere. since I only have the 5th version, recommending what to reduce, may not help. And that's what combat luck is all about. Plus did I mention that Hero system genre by genre that there is an an explorer murdock? He's at 200pts but I think that you could reduce him easily- especially since he's in 5th and you would have to convert (alittle). Machette at 1D6 I think would be fine-remeber most characters don't have armor. And didn't they make adding DC easier in 6th? So strong man can be making the 1D6 to a +1 or +1/2 much easier too.
  10. Re: Help Me Populate: The Undead Asylum In Vampire: The Masqurade, The Antedivullian vampires were so old that only other vampire blood could keep them alive. How about something along those lines?
  11. Re: Custom Martial Art Skills Fwiw Christopher, in the Ultimate Martial Artist, Steve Long explains why there are 7 NNDs (and in fact hint that you could have more). The quick of it is that traditonaly, there was 2 NNDs but the some of the Defense for those two in a Superheroic game would be too common, and the person with NND would be cheated of points. So by having a varied and more specific Defense. Example instead of just Resistant Defense stopping NND(2)-Choke, Resistant Defense on location 3-5 (Head) is called for. Torchwolf, it was in the back of Fifth rev under changing the system that I ran across the advice of stuff costing too cheap, or too good.
  12. Re: New Here Hello, and welcome! Also google The Great Net Book of Real Heros. It has a bunch of comic book characters written up (althought in 4th ed). And several of the same written up by different people, which can give you an idea of reaon of effect.
  13. Re: Star Wars Hero: Why should I? (or not)
  14. Re: Star Wars Hero: Why should I? (or not) Dr. Divago, if you search the internet, there is a fan-made Phatom Menace sorcebook out there with write ups of clone troopers and combat droids from the first movie, and jedi powers, too. I believe that it is in WEG d6 format, but that can save some leg work for yah!
  15. Re: Custom Martial Art Skills No derail, yet a side trip! ; ) I was going to mention that Allston in Ninja Hero warned about people in a heroic game and butying 2 pts KS: Poisions and killing everyone left and right. Torchwolf it is actually relevent, (and I enjoy) the discussion with Christopher. How do you price something in a game, or even introduce something in the game without unbalancing, or at least knowing what the issues could be with it?
  16. Re: Custom Martial Art Skills Since you brought up LS: poison and diesease, I looked into it. For consideration, are you aware that life support will protect you from any enviromental damage and any change enviroment, but doesn't protect you from any attacks that are defined as the special effect? (This actually started to hurt the brain.) They give the example of having immuninty from Intense heat for an example. So my understanding as applied to Poisons would be Scorpia's Dart wouldn't affect you if you had LS: Poison, because the Defense is defined as having LS: poison. However, Black Mamba posion would affect you cause its bought as a straight drain vs Con (well as of 4th ed which I'm going by). Now I can see that it is a moot point because you are applying it to NND. And depending on the campaign, I could see its cost. But 5pts to be protected from 7 NND (martial) attacks in a martial arts heavy game? I think its unbalancing. But I remember one piece of advice from one supplement, if everyone wants to buy a power then its probally to powerful, or cheap.
  17. Re: What Can We Do To Serve HERO? Thanks Christopher, cause I'm curious about 6th basic. I'd hate to point to something if the poster can't access it. But I'm all about trying to help them where there at. This is why I really like the idea of if doing a free thing, build upon the stuff already in the freebie links. (unless of course, we're told no, or there is a chance that they might revoke it.) And I hope no one takes this that I don't like the other books. I have a bunch of supplements from several editions. But (for me) I keep thinking that each book will produce a wonderful game, whereas they don't, that's my job, they just help me to do it. Or in other words (and this is also real life for me), I can have a nice set of tools, but I'm still no mechanic (and barely a handyman).
  18. Re: Weapon Mastery (Coments Welcomed) I don't know if my friend was looking to use the weapon elements or not.. Him and the GM just added up all the WF at the time (if iirc) and came up with 20 pts as being fair.
  19. Re: Custom Martial Art Skills Strong Joints; +4 BODY (8pts), Only vs unarmed killing (joint) tecniques (-2) real cost 3 pts. This doesn't fully stop a joint break, and doesn't provide additional protection from a joint NND, but if the technique has the diasble element, this can add some protecion to the character.
  20. Re: Custom Martial Art Skills My friend suggested about buying res. def. Two reasons I didn't. First, since the NND specififcally called for no need to breathe, thats why I looked at it. And second the price for three points is within the range of 'normal' martial manuevuers. The only thing though, at 5 pts defense against all ma NND might be too cheap. Now your protected from at least 4 NND (I think Ninja Hero 5th has more?) moves. (To be honest, the chokehold is the most common NND).
