  1. Re: Invisible to Touch Group? I'd ditch the 0 END, and in fact, increase it's END. This makes it a power the characters can turn on. If they're not paying attention, how would the character interact with anyone?
  2. Re: Invisible to Touch Group? Well, Invis would make you invisible to machines, and machines shouldn't be affected by an SEP Field. Also, I wouldn't think it should work versus "violently opposed" people - guards aren't violently opposed, but their archnemesis should be able to see them. Lastly, why should targets forget that they've been affected? If they see it, but don't think about it, and then remember later. This is a classic move in movies. When the interrogator realizes they've been had. "Well, yeah, this guy in a tux did walk past the checkpoint, but I didn't think anything of it at the time."
  3. Re: What is this power? William Sleator is a great author. Nothing to do with your Powers, but his book Interstellar Pig is one of my personal favorites. Young adult fiction, true, but good young adult fiction.
  4. Re: Invisible to Touch Group? I agree with Mike W - I think Invisibility to Touch Group is much more in line with MitchellS's idea about the pickpocket. Invisibility to Sight Group doesn't make you invisible to deduction. If it rains, you see an outline. If you walk in the sand, you leave tracks. If you punch through a wall, you see a hole burst through the wall. Similarly, Invis to Touch would mean I couldn't feel you. But if you picked me up and threw me to the ground, I'd feel the rush of wind and loss of equilibrium as I was raised up in the air, and the solid impact of the ground. I'd be able to infer that something picked me up and threw me to the ground, I just wouldn't have felt what it was. I think a SEP Field is much more a Mind Control power. It doesn't stop you from seeing or feeling (or in any other way sensing) the character, it just stops you from thinking (or caring) about the character. Thus, MC.
  5. Re: Fake TV-Shows Not a fiction show, but Capitol Beat from the West Wing.
  6. Re: How would you build this Howzabout... +30 EGO, Only to Defend Against Mentalists (-1) Plus Images to Mental Group, Trigger Then, when the mentalist orders you (in your mind) to attack the wall, they roll their Mind Control roll, and unless they pass the new EGO, they fail. But if they pass the old EGO, then the Images trigger. Since they tried to Mind Control you, you also know what they ordered you to do.
  7. Re: What is this power? Or the standard fallback, Transform (broken foci into fixed foci). I'd also change the special effect to "reaching forward in time", because if you reached back, it wouldn't be there when it was broken. But if you reach forward, you can grab it after it's been fixed, and then alter to a new timeline. Read The Green Futures of Tycho by William Sleator. It's an excellent young-adult book and deals with reproducing items by grabbing them from other points in time, and with the effects on the items when this is done.
  8. Re: StarCraft HERO Haha! I was reading this thread from the compiled StarHERO thread, and I saw this. 18 months later, and Ghost is still ages away! Ahh, Blizzard.
  9. Re: Loving Your DNPCs Not to be contrary, but how do you justify this? A DNPC and Follower seems to be impossible. Either he's useful, or he's a disadvantage.
  10. I was looking around HERO Central when I saw a character who had the following disads: DNPC: Frankie (names have been changed to protect the innocent) PsyLim: Loves Frankie Would you allow this? I wouldn't. Wanted to see if I was in the minority.
  11. Re: PREDATORS -- What Do *You* Want To See? Out of curiosity, for Steve... Is there any focus for Predators? Dark Champions is such a varied genre, I'm curious what kind of bad guys will see... DC:TAS? Less campy vigilante crime fighting? HCPD campaign oriented bad-guys? Military campaigns? Serious, and not-so, spy campaign bad guys? Am I going to be looking at mostly Jokers, mostly Hannibal Lecters, mostly Blofields, or mostly street thugs? Or an equal blending? Thanks.
  12. Re: Where'd this base come from Saw this on craigslist: Vacation Hideaway! Owner must sell! Recently updated security system! Great view! Large garage! Large pool with exotic fish! Rustic grounds. Email doctord@craigslist.org Here's what I think it means: Volcano Fortress! Been discovered by UNTIL! Installed new lasers! In the middle of the Pacific! Hidden launch pad for blowing up moon! Sharks with laser beams - a classic! Volcano no longer active. Email doctord@craigslist.org
  13. Re: Trapped in a MMORPG This weekend I'm going to go to Powell's City of Books to pick up Niven's Dream Park series (as discussed in this thread), so I can start making my meta-genre campaign. Don't know if it will ever be played, but gosh-darnit, I'll have fun trying! I'll keep you posted.
  14. Re: Unarchetypal Heroes I'm down with The Hyborian. I do love lengthy political intrigue scenes, and mercantile negotiations. Romantic trysts leave me hot and bothered, and extensive backstreet cat-and-mouse games make me jumpy. But the core of role-playing is escapism. I deal with bureaucracy in my real life. I deal with romantic conflicts, negotiations, and attempting to lie and keep secrets. What my life lacks is ass-kicking!. Nothing leaves me more satisfied than a well-played fight. The fight was arrived at through good role-playing channels, there are plenty of sufficient pauses for dramatic monologues, and at some point, I dive out from behind a corner, guns blazing. Or swing from a chandelier. Or punch through a wall and shout "It's clobbering time!" I like to escape.
  15. Re: To serve and protect Ahh, but would a true-blue cop get both? I mean, even though he beleives in the oaths he swore, he's still held to them by the law! I'd rule yes if the GM is talented at twisting a player (and put the lims against each other), but generally no.
  16. Re: What's the Worth of 4th Ed. Books? Thanks! I was curious, because I was considering picking up some books in genres that aren't slated yet, like Horror HERO, Western HERO, and especially anything like CyberHERO and post-Apocalyptic-style HERO games. Obviously I'd wait to see what the 2006 Line-up is, but if I have to wait until 2007 to get it, I'd just as soon invest in some ol' 4th Ed. Any good reviews for CyberHERO? It wasn't published by ICE, it was published by someone else. Any good?
  17. Re: Linked Characteristics I'd allow Linked Characteristics (it is an advantage - one drain would destroy you), but not with Focus. If you want to be a rules lawyer, remember, you can't use a Linked Power unless the Primary is being used as well - you can't use your CON unless you're using your DEX - so the extra CON only applies if you're making a DEX roll, using your CV or something else, but not SPEED or a DEX-related skill - because those are DEX-based, not DEX.
  18. Re: Arcanum Hero - Victorian Fantasy Two threads that might be of some help: What Do You Call This Genre Clockwork HERO I created them when I wanted to do a loose translation of Arcanum.
  19. One of the things the HERO System prides itself on is the ability to think "outside the box" during character creation. However, 95% of the time, the box is there for a reason. If I conceive of a "fighter", I can explain my character concept very easily to other players. If I say a "priest", the same applies. Sometimes, a qualifier is required, like a "fire-wielding wizard", or a "plate-mail wearing druid", but generally, the box works. I'd like to hear about characters for whom the box DIDN'T work. Characters with whom you really needed the HERO System to bring them to life. Rules: Campaign must have been High Fantasy HERO No fancy races - I'm more interested in character concepts and occupations than "an elf, with WINGS!" Reasonably recognizable world - if it's High Fantasy "but with mechs!", too far. Basically, I want to hear about campaigns which could be built with D&D (or at least, almost), but character concepts that needed HERO. Ready, set, GO!
  20. So, recently, I saw a reference to Larry Niven in the Sex and the Single Superman thread. Then, I saw Cyber HERO related thread. And it hit me! Dream Park HERO! How much fun would it be to roleplay world champions in Dream Park? Or Dream Park staff? Investigating mysteries, rushing to make adventures work, and occasionally just settling in to your roles and playing! Granted, roleplaying about roleplaying might get a little deep, or a little silly, but I remember reading those books and really getting carried away. Who's with me? Any ideas?
  21. Re: Experience with Narosia As soon as Narosia comes out, I'm going to buy it. Not because I've played it (which I haven't), and not because I love it (how could I have any feelings for it if I haven't played it?), but to encourage DOJ to keep licensing. GO NAROSIA!
  22. Re: Challenge! The Hero System in One Page! I don't know if you need this. I'm not sure if you even need to list the characteristics, but you definitely don't need their descriptions. That's a lot of space on one page that could be used for other things. Every RPG has a STRength score (I know not every single one, but most). People who understand what an RPG is understand what a characteristic is, I'd assume. So use this space for more convincing and simplifying. My $.02
  23. Re: Need some "Smart" powers Hate to add the obvious, but someone who had super intelligence would probably be able to invent things. Look at Dr. Destroyer - he doesn't have any superpowers, he's simply supersmart. So someone with an INT of 30 would probably be able to invent plenty of techno-gadgets to be used in the crusade for justice.
