  1. Re: A question of size This doesn't seem like a "How-to" question, or an unhappiness with the rules. This seems like a legitimate rules clarification question (dear God!). As such, it might be best to throw it in Steve's private forum.
  2. Re: Raise Dead, how do you build? Raising Dead as in Undead is simply a Summon with an OAF (Corpse of suitable quality) Raising Dead as in Resurrection... If I recall currectly (don't have HERO with me), Aid has bee nbroken down into Aid and Healing, and Healing has an adder for Resurrection. Somebody else can correct me if I'm wrong.
  3. Re: Grafting the Hero skill rules onto Basic D&D My instinct says this is an experiment doomed to fail. That having been said, kudos to you! This could be cool. I'd pick a number of skill points for every class/race (IIRC, they're the same thing in D&D), based on what you see as fair (so, Thieves get a lot, and whatever the most useful class is doesn't get many), and let the characters buy whatever they want with their points. If they buy something they can't use (like if a Wizard buys a +1 CSL with swords and can't use swords), then don't let him use it. (Or don't let him buy it.) So, let characters buy any skills, combat or otherwise. If a character wants a +1 CSL with Fireball (I'd say Magic Missile, but that always hits), then that costs 2 points. So forth. Don't let people use skills they don't have.

    Rifts HERO

Re: Rifts HERO Weapons shouldn't require an Advantage (AVLD, defense Mega Damage defense) if the Defenses take a Limitation (not versus Mega Damage weapons). Weapons take Armor Piercing, but Defenses don't take "Only Half Applies Versus AP Weapons". So, choose whether to apply the point alterations to either the weapons or the defenses, but not both.
  5. Re: Tentative 2006 Schedule Welcome back!
  6. Re: Feedback on a mutant plant power I wouldn't worry about IPE - just because you know the smell of the plant is making you approach it doesn't mean you won't do it. I know that Grandma's cookies are what's drawing me into the kitchen, but I'm still powerless to stop myself. ;-)
  7. Re: Sharing END Somewhere in The Ultimate Vehicle, it discusses systems being powered from multiple END sources, which the systems buy as a +1/4 advantage (Can Use END from Multiple Sources). I wouldn't do anything with the twins END Reserves, I'd just buy their powers with the +1/4 advantage that let's the power be powered by either one, or both of the twins.
  8. Re: Need a hero identified. He's a Malvan! From Terran Empire! Yay Star HERO crossover!
  9. Re: How would you build this wind-based power? I was misconceiving the nature of Mind Link as a radio and special effect. My previous post is wrong.
  10. Re: Invisible to Touch Group? Actually, that's the entire point of the SEP Field - it's illogical yet funny. As is all Douglas Adams material. That's the point of the SEP Field - it's taking everyday British attitudes and turning them into technologies. I mean, this is a world where people travel via Improbability Drive. If a character is sitting in a chair with an SEP Field, the targets won't try to sit there and then justify why they can't. They'll justify why they never wanted to sit in the chair in the first place. They'll decide they have a bad back and need to stay standing, or remember that that chair squeaks. That's what an SEP Field does.
  11. Re: How would you build this wind-based power? Those wouldn't work. Darkness versus Hearing would make the people affected not be able to hear, but anyone outside the effect of the Darkness would be able to hear. Same with change environment. I'd build it as Images to Hearing Group, with a +20 to PER roll. Then EVERYONE can hear it, and if a character is on a radio, then the other end of the radio will only hear the wind.
  12. Re: What do with a player ... I agree with what's been said. Very transparent tributes are one thing, copies are another. Make it clear to the player that there character is not Captain Marvel. He may be similar, but he's not the same. And forewarn him - if he ever references CapM in the game, you will rain down upon him with holy vengeance. The players need to enjoy themselves. But it's more important the GM enjoys himself. I'm not pitting players versus GMs here, but it's true. Players play in the world, GMs have to work outside of the playing sessions to make the world, and if you're not having fun making it, then it's not fun for you. Therer will (almost) always be a need for more GMs, and not a need for more players. It's a GMs advantage, and you should use it.
  13. Re: Invisible to Touch Group? Changed my mind back. Must've been tired. Mike W is right. An SEP filed affects the mind in a very fundamental way that Invis doesn't. If I land my SEP Field spaceship in the middle of a little-league soccer match, taking up 60% of the field, the ref and the players and the parents will suddenly decide that they don't want to play. They will make up a reason to leave the field, since they can no longer play soccer (because the ship takes up the field). It's not just that they don't know it's there, they will go far out of their way to not interact with it. If it's a military-strength SEP field, the ship could probably land on one of the soccer players, crushing him, and his parents would still think that it's "Somebody Else's Problem". SEP Fields don't just make you invisible - they make the characters not even think about you. If I'm invisible to sight group, and I'm attacked, I'll know I'm being attacked. I'll hear the guy, feel the guy, and if he's close enough, maybe smell him, and I'll see his effects on the real world. If a character has Invis versus ALL senses, but some mystic sensei informs me I'm about to be attacked by a character I can't sense, I'll know he's there. I'll try to defend myself. When he picks up a vase to throw at me, I'll start shooting in the vicinity of the vase. I don't have to sense someone to know they're there. An SEP field means the targets DON'T KNOW you're there. You alter their mind. You're not necessarily invisible, they just don't think about you. Your subconscious detects the person because you will go out of your way to not interact with them, but you don't think about them. Definitely mind control. I agree that Invis versus Touch can be made (although I don't agree with Gary B on all of its effects), but I whole-heartedly disagree with the idea to use it as the power to build an SEP field.
  14. Re: Tentative 2006 Schedule Could you please expand upon this? Does this mean new products are being added to the 2005 lineup?
  15. Re: Invisible to Touch Group? I'm beginning to change my opinion. I think this power could be built along the following lines: Invisibility (to whichever senses you felt necessary), Doesn't Work Against Machine-Class Minds and Cameras, Doesn't Work in Combat / When Character With Power Directly Interacts with Other Characters, Doesn't Work Against Characters With Ego Greater Than 30 or With a Mental Awareness Granting POwer With Active Points Greater than 40 (or whatever).
  16. Re: Tentative 2006 Schedule If Psychic Wars was a Star HERO product, I'd go so far as to pre-order it, if that's possible somewhere. I'm going to buy Galactic Champions even though I'm not a huge Champs fan, because it takes place in space. God, I hope Psychic Wars is a Star HERO product. Now I have something new to pray for, in addition to world peace and an endless supply of chocolate.
  17. Re: Tentative 2006 Schedule I've seen complaints about the quality of Champs products listed, but realize than in 2006, StarHERO has a representation of 0. Just keep that in mind whilst you complain.
  18. Re: The World of Edean I don't know if they're balanced. Would I be allowed to build Maurr targeting spells? If so, you're charging me for the benefits, but I'm not being reimbursed for the fact I can be targeted as a Maurr. If I have Giant-blood, unless Giants are unusually persecuted, I think I should have to pay for the ability to weird giant-stuff. Maybe.
  19. Re: Feedback wanted on this background idea Do you think it's going to be more Post-Apoc or Cyber HERO?
  20. Re: Tentative 2006 Schedule May I ask... What is Stronghold? Do we know, or would it be purely conjecture?
  21. Re: Multiple Special Effects That's an excellent idea. I hadn't thought of that.
