  1. Re: Everyman VPPs I tend to prefer the power skill choice too, with the obligation for the player to NEVER use a power created on the raw twice. If he wants it, he buys it. Period. In a way, Power Skill is a way for the player to use his power in a surprising and brilliant way, so I tend to not be too evil with the difficulty, because for a 60 AP power, it's a -6 skill roll. Not much a chance to succeed... Power Skilled Opale.
  2. Re: Gadgeteer vs. Powered Armor vs. Weaponmaster For my players best understanding and in a worry of balancing the game, I try the make the frontier between those three archetypes clear. So to me : A powered armor super is absolutely powerless (but not skillless !) without his armor. Btw He's the only archetype to be to be allowed by "essence" to have "permanent" characteristics bought with the Focus or OIHID limitation. And I'm not afraid to force the player to play his "normal" self in a surprise situation till he can change into his armored alter-ego. Of course there are exceptions like our good Dr Destroyer but NPCs are.. well NPCs. A gadgeteer is a hero which part of his powers (ie most of them) are coming fromgadgets, often coming with charges, and have a large fan of abilities able to help him in combat situations and that "do the trick" in most others. That doesn't mean he's the only one to do tricks, but that the nature of his powers makes him the best choice to reverse a situation by wit. A clear example of a magic gadgeteer is Shaman from Alpha Flight. Batman is one too, but he qualifies as a martial artist aswell. Finally, a weapon master is for me a character which most combat abilities depends on his main weapon, could that be a sword, some martial weaponry or a bow/rifle/pair of guns... WIthout his weapon, he's kinda harmless against other super, tough he can be a fierce fighter against agent. And in fact, most of the time, a weapon master doesn't know himself to create the foci he needs, and depends on some genius inventor. Again, this is a vision of the archetypes I have, and mostly to keep the players from "exploiting" the rules. If not, you'd have all EP carrying some Focus OIF bracers that transform them into their superheroic alterego, and paying their characteristic cheaper than they should. Well from my experience. Coherence wih the Superheroic setting is important. Variable Power Opale.

    Year One

  5. Re: Attractiveness - Comeliness Vs. Striking Appearance Though I was a big fan of the COM stat in older edition, I have to admit not having it anymore is a great plus in a character creation. Why ? Because now you can define your character the way you like, as ugly or beautiful as you wish (or as the picture shows it) without been "forced" to buy it in character points. See it that way : if you build an attractive character in 5th Ed, you had to buy it for finally few effect except on your own ego and drama creating effect in game. But in 6th Ed, if you build a character either super beautiful or ugly like the Abomination, you don't have to buy anything, except you want it to have effect in game. Opale, Am I not beautiful ? (beware of the rresponse guys)
  6. Re: Artist of Strength Sweet idea, an sensitive Giant Brick. He will have some talking with a Certain Bea Ricki House sooner or later it's sure ! Brickhouse Opale. PS : tell the Palindromedary to stop eating everything, he will get sick doing so !
  7. Re: Time Frame for Appearance of Superhumans I had the chance to play an Aberrant RPG Campaign and the GM made us been part of the first wave of superpowered individuals in the world ;myself getting even involved in the discovery of the MR Node, WHich became the MRB Node due to my character researches about it. It added alot of interest in the Game to know we were part of the Starting point. For instance we played in Canada, Montreal, and our group became the first line of defense for the Canadian Army. Except when a setting is already made in a RPG, I tend to make now my players be the "first heroes" appearing. It gives more freedom and dramatic opportunities. Aberrant Opale.
  8. Hello Steve, Another question turning around the Eclipse character and her abilities to adopt a Multiform when she drains another character power. Imagine that I want to make the power effect (i.e Multiform power) limited in time, for example up to 1 minute or till the character she drained return to consciousness. I thought that using the Time Limit Effect Limitation would be of some use, but I'm not sure. Is that right with the system, and how much would this Time Effect Limit limitation would cost please ? By extension, how to create a VPP with powers that doesn't last longer than one minute of effect ? How much will that cost as an adder/limitation ? Regards, Opale

Re: Rogue Syndrome Yep, could be... As I said, nothing is set yet, I'm volontarily going to do the background the reverse way ^^

    Rogue Syndrome

Aloha ! I'm creating a Marvel Rogue like character (yes another girl power stealer. I just love this concept ) and I haven't decided yet of the technical part of her Complications coming from a Mystic background. So yes I know normally you buildup a character by it's background, but this time I volontarily wish to build the Background FROM the Complications. It's a kind of mental exercize. Everyone knows Rogue, the character from Marvel, but if you had to create a character like this one, playable by a PC. Here are my starting Complications. Accidental Change: Touch Someone's Skin Always (Common) Physical Complication: Body sometimes changes when she drains (Infrequently; Slightly Impairing) Psychological Complication: Gets psychological quirks from those she drains (Common; Strong) Negative Reputation: Power Stealer, Frequently What would you add as Complications turning around the nature of her powers ? Complication idea's Stealing Opale
  14. Hi Steve, In Champions Villains Solo, Vol 3, there is a character called Eclipse p95. 536 Mimic Powers: Variable Power Pool (Mimic Pool), 500 Pool + 250 Control Cost 0 Only For Multiform (Multiform is “alternate” form with all of character’s powers and exact copies of target’s powers and power-related Complications, and must have the Reversion Limitation; -½), Requires Successful HTH Attack Roll (-½), Skin Contact Required (-1), Power Fails To Work If Cannot Copy Entire Target (-¼), Cannot Retain Copied Forms (when character switches to another “form,” she immediately loses all previously-copied powers; -¼) We are having an argument about the way to use this power. Indeed, like explained in 6 E1 p411, Changing a VPP slot power should cost time or be bought with adders in the Power ( like the Cosmic adders +2). I understood that the character only have one slot in her VPP. Does that mean that the mimicry of powers doesn't takes time to happen, or does it takes from 1 turn to one minute as explained in the Rule book ? Can you give me an example of use of this built power please ? Regards Opale
  15. Re: Necessary Item to control your power Thanks to all I'm wondering if such a limiter should be proposed to Steve Long as a "classical" btw. Not so classical Opale.
  16. Aloha ! Here is a tricky question (for me) that I was asked by one of my players. Imagine your character have a tremendous power that he can control only by the use of an item (harness, armor, bracers, and so on). How would you create such an item ? I guess it's a focus with certain properties (Adders and limiters), but how to define it ? If when you loose this item you loose control (sometimes/easily/totally) of your powers and then trigger with massive destructive effects - more powerful than when you fully control it. I thought of a No Conscious Control but how to apply it when the character loose the item. And how to link the fact the power unleashed becomes very destructive ? To get the idea, a character like BlackBolt from the Inhuman in Marvel Universe. Without his harness and head fork, he's going to blast his entire realm. Thanks in advance. NCC Opale and.. what ?
  17. Re: What would you do if you were a mutant? Governments would likely try to control that kind of manifestation. That's a fact. So, I'd first hide my powers, and do my best to train and learn to use them. Then i'd try to find other powered people. Our world is not a four color world, and I think the Heroes serie would likely be much more what to expect. So much for the Code vs Killing and such concepts. I dislike violence, but there are things that I hate more than violence in this world. Depending on the might of my faculties I'd try to make the wars, and civil wars stop prolly by decimating the tyrans. I know it's been kinda evil, but some of those war people doesn't deserve the name of human being anymore. For instance, i'd be ready to kill to protect myself or my beloved ones, if a governements or organisation tried to catch me. It's a complex thing : to do the good is always balanced with against who you do this good. Harmony with oneself is the key. We are all connected. objective Opale

  22. Re: If accused of terrorism and emprisonned into Stronghold Very interesting background Querysphinx, Veryyyyyy *big grin* Thanks !
  23. Re: If accused of terrorism and emprisonned into Stronghold Taking notes and mixing it all in the rp-shaker (woot woot woot) to make it an interesting and dramatic turnabout. Purpose been of course, to keep playing the character as an heroine, though maybe one that is seen as a threat while she protect the mankind. Thanks ! Brainstorming Opale.
  24. Re: A Wicked Situation... Brickhouse : free the girl, lead her to hospital and stay at her bed as long as necessary then dig up the city to find the sadist that made that to her. No compromise, no patience anymore. Wrecking havoc in criminal nest in the city and be so destructive of their goods that it will force them to help me to find the Wicked... Knockout : free the girl and call the police, and when she's in good hands, go back to the subway to get captured and become the Harlot 'oops.. Mister Wicked thread followed ^^ )
  25. Aloha ! Something very interesting is developping at our table, and though I have my own ideas about things and character development, I'd like to get some of your feelings about a special development setting. Consider a young superheroine, which 18's birthday happened (MoonSilver is the character we talk about, thankee to Enforcer). This young, well educated woman has always been well behaved, compassionned and a bit prudish. A really good heart, though very sensitive. Imagine now that some vilains manage to corrupt her SuperGroup image, and to make all the team accused to be terrorists. Imagine that she got her powers against her will and that she would have preferd to not have them. And that during an attack that showed "her", she saw herself destroying a state building, prolly making victims. And just before this happened she lost control of her powers and dropped into a comatic state, so her teammates said her she was just comatic, when PRIMUS accuse her to have destroyed life, which she really awfully fears. Imagine now she's charged guilty ( I shortcut the reason and motives) and send to Stronghold Prison. Making her parents know she's a superheroine, while they dislike the capes. Loosing her life and everything, with the intimate conviction a corrupt government and stubborn Primus Agents destroyed her life. Prolly she'll escape one day or later. But what do you expect she'd turn into ? In my mind I can't picture the character as a supervillainess, but maybe rather a sworn protector of mankind that hate or distrust autority and craves for a revenge. I looooove that kind of character Complex and human. Sensitive and desperate. What would be your ideas or reactions about what happened to her ? Dramatically inspired Opale.
