The Barnstormers? You mean the arena football team based in Des Moines, Iowa from 1995 to 2000? Which had been successful in Iowa, reaching the ArenaBowl in 1996 and 1997, but the need for a more modern venue as well as the league's desire for a larger market led to the team moving to New York, where they became the New York Dragons?

Yes, in Poul Anderson's novel Three Hearts and Three Lions there is a troll that regenerates and each piece of it continues fighting until it grows back together. (The appearance of deendee trolls is taken from The Incomplete Enchanter by L. Sprague DeCamp and Fletcher Pratt. Of course deendee trolls are much larger.)
