  1. Re: Anyone have Tomb of Horrors? Our group got wiiped out in Tomb of Horrors in 1979. Only a couple died as a result of the traps. The reat of us (7 or 8) got to feed the Demi Liche our souls. That was not a high point in our D & D memory banks. (And let me just thank paigeoliver for openniong up that wound again. )
  2. Re: Anyone have Tomb of Horrors? I was actually a playtest local GM for GDW when the system first came out and the company was trying to drum up interest. After the Gygax lawsuit took GDW down (along with Traveller, although The New Era bit) all I have left is the cheesy blue playtest shirt. I still have all the books, which I paid full price for, BTW. Interesting system and really good world concept. Hero is a far superior and more playable system, though. Paige is dead on about the Dangerous Journeys' complexity, even by Hero standards.
  3. Re: Is patriotism a disadvantage? I agree to a point that the PC must play his Disads, but unless the GM creates situations in which the Disads are relevant and moves the plot line along with the PC use of their Disads, the roleplay can come off as contrived. They both need to play off each other.
  4. Re: Is patriotism a disadvantage? Same as Indiana Jones. "Nazis. I hate these guys."
  5. Re: Favorite Pulp Character Wow. As I am a fan of all of the above, I am sold. Thanks, guys.
  6. Re: Pulp Hero love...Sky Capt is a good sign. If pulp heroes encompassed a relatively comprehensive genre mix, say Wild West through Golden Age, there may be enough breadth to interest various genre fans. A lot would depend on the specific subgenres involved, especially in the campaign idea section. I am looking for a good 1900 era campaign concept for our group of history buff gamers.
  7. Re: Hero System is Just Alright With Me Considering the really imaginative and innovative campaign and character concepts you have posted on these boards, keep tweaking and refining, KS.
  8. Re: Favorite Pulp Character Tarzan, Doc Savage, The Phantom and Flash Gordon. Razzle Dazzle and derring do.
  9. Re: Enterprise NC1701A vs. Imperial Star Destroyer Kirk says, "I whipped Khan, so bring on Vader."
  10. Re: Hero System is Just Alright With Me Great points, guys and gals. I just recalled another reason that I like the system. The admonition "usable only with GM's permission" gives the right balance of authority to the rules and the individual campaign. Understanding the need for a consistent construction baseline without making all characters cookie cutter look alikes is a real strength, IMHO.
  11. Re: Is 5th Edition Revised going to be worth it? I have to agree with Enforcer84. Steve has done a tremendous job with Hero. I also trust him to give us a quality product. It is worth remembering that many of the FAQs and clarifications published were the result of input from these very boards. Edit: Steve and the gang have done a tremendous job. Credit where credit is due.
  12. I have noticed that a lot of the threads here deal with changing major facets of the Hero System rules. Accepting that (paraphrasing Lincoln) you can't please all of the people all of the time, and that nobody and nothing is perfect, does anybody else out there in Hero land feel that the game system is substantially (say 90%) well put together? I, for one, do. There are even provisions for tweaks based on special effect and campaign individuality built right in when needed. How realistic can a game with flying superstrong guys and levitating glowing girls firing bolts of energy at meglomaniacs using their psionic mental domination on innocents be?
  13. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER I have the flu and I feel like crap. It is four o'clock and I am going home early. There is no damned reason that I should have weighed in on that Ashcroft thread. Sorry, Gary. Only Kara can stay cheerful on these boards when she's sick.
  14. Re: Musings on Random Musings Dude, you could be missing Ed McMahon. I am about ready to ditch my landline, too. I have cable.
  15. Re: Musings on Random Musings *Rerun* Get 'em while they're hot!
  16. Re: Enterprise NC1701A vs. Imperial Star Destroyer Now there is a truly wise opinion.
  17. Re: Musings on Random Musings Thanks, Zorn. It never occured to me that it was not an NGD thread. Yikes.
  18. Re: Musings on Random Musings We've already given up on reaching your level of niceness, Kara. Also your derailing ability.
  19. Re: Musings on Random Musings Agreed. We all blow our cool and hopefully return wiser. I hope ChuckG does the same. He deserves the same chance as anyone else.
  20. Re: Musings on Random Musings They need to learn to leave it to the professionals.
  21. Re: Musings on Random Musings I am amazed that this whole thing took place on the Champions board and not NGD. I agree that ChuckG was looking for trouble and found it. I also agree that I have seen other posters do the same thing with the only result being the thread being shut down. If the only criteria for banning is not being nice, then it is going to get roomy here after a while.
  22. Re: A Thread for Random Musings We have a thread on porn, various religious opinions, political jabs, and even one about having sex with corpses. Could someone please indicate what posts were considered so "over the top" as to get a member banned? I am not saying it couldn't have happened, but I would sure appreciate an example.
