  1. Re: A character in search of a name For the water character I suggest: Current For the fire character I suggest: Fahrenheit
  2. Re: Please Help: I need a name for my character Okay this will seems convaluted but I suggest Nemesis. It is similar to the name of a Celtic Goddess named Nemain. Check out the etymology section on Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nemhain I thought it was interesting.
  3. Re: Mister Rapentap:does anyone remember him? What made Mr. Rapentap nasty was that he used children. I mean how many heroes are willing to punch a child out.
  4. Re: Colossus Actually Juggy hit Captain Britian and he flew miles outside of town and made a furrow through the ground and a brick wall.

  7. Re: I figured out a perfect supervillain. At best the doddering old fool is a DNPC.
  8. Re: Manned Giant Robot All the powers that were the robot were built with the OIF Limitation. Everything without the LIM... granted he didn't have any Martial Arts skills. So that wasn't an issue. It was basically a power armor type build but with Growth thrown in. (Actually with the new way they suggest to use and buy Growth it worked out pretty well.) He was without the suit (through my design based on it being an OIF) about 1 in 3 adventures. He actually managed to save the day one session because the bad guy thought he was a giant robot and disabled it, but didn't take into consideration a pilot with tons of engineering and mechanical skills. Techie FTW.
  9. Re: I figured out a perfect supervillain. Hey yeah great idea.. and Star Jones and Kelly Ripa could be henchmen (or is it henchwomen or henchperson?)
  10. Re: Manned Giant Robot I had a player build this type of character and he did it as a OIF. It worked out well for him.
  11. Re: The Champion Protocols (ie how to take down your character) The Alliance Protocols Paragon: Paragon is a mystic-based Superman “clone”. His powers are linked to the perceived moral fiber and character of the world. During the 50’s he was at his most powerful, rivaling the Silver Age Superman. He is still incredibly powerful though and a force to be reckoned with. Other than that his biggest weakness is to Mind Control and Mental Illusions. He has earned the nickname “squishy head”. Red Storm: Magical Attacks and energy disrupt his alien-based powers. His obsession with defeating the Thrixx can be used against him in almost any circumstance. He believes he can do anything and gets into trouble trying. Plus throwing buses at bystanders can distract him easily. Delt: He controls temporal energies. Anything that disrupts his place in the space-time flow messes with him, with an extreme and painful reaction to being teleported. El Mano Rojo: Secrecy is his biggest defense. If anyone found out who he was it would be a simple matter of shooting him once or twice. Valkyrie: Taking away her power armor leaves her as a paraplegic. Easily killed at that point. While armored up the silicon-based technology her suit is based on is vulnerable to water. Maxum: Incredibly tough, but with he seems to have a severe weakness that those who know how to look for such things can take advantage of easily. Thomas “Tommy” Heat: He’s an old man. If he’s not expecting it a bullet to the head will drop him like a dirty towel. Dragon: Hard to really find one thing that hurts him. Catching him by surprise will give you the best chance. Shock: Almost impossible stun the biggest weakness is to airborne or gas attacks. Out like a light. Artemis: You’d need a good old-fashioned beat down to take her out. She’s a mid-level brick with martial arts. Detective Aggie Granger: She’s a cop, really doesn’t have much defenses if she doesn’t have time to theorize and implement them. Catch her off guard and you win.
  12. Re: Fun with Thugs and Mooks I had a player who had a DNPC: little sister on a 14- so I needed ways to get her into the game at times. I took into consideration the fact that the hero really did nothing but patrol, he needed a babysitter. The next door neighbor was always home so the hero had the next door neighbor, who had a daughter the same age as the lil sis, babysit. It just so happened that the neighbor was a former Viper agent on parole. He had a job that kept him out of trouble and reason to stay out of jail. Did I mention that the hero had a Hunted by Viper? I got the reputation as a GM who will screw you over with your disads.
  13. Re: WWYCD: "Tell me about your teammates." Paragon's thoughts on his Alliance teammates Red Storm: He has grown into a true hero, despite the wrongs I inflicted on him years ago. Most people would become bitter at the loss of so many friends, at such a young age. He has grown from a naïve, idealist young adult into a mature, responsible man. My only concern his fascination, no obsession; with an alien race he calls the Thrixx. He still remains one of the bravest men I have ever known. Delt: Spoiled, immature and at best somewhat chauvinistic. Delt’s wealthy upbringing hasn’t taught him the value of hard work and earning respect. His control over localized temporal space does make him a very useful ally. Perhaps Red Storm can help him mature some. El Mano Rojo: Cloaked in a shadow of mystery very few people know who he truly is. He has one of the sharpest minds I have ever seen and his deductive reason skills are perhaps unrivaled. His loner attitude and lack of teamwork could lead to problems in the future. Valkyrie: She tries to hide the sadness and loss of her husband behind a façade of humor and usually succeeds. She is a professional in all sense of the word. It does help that she comes from a family of heroes. If she can get rid of the ghosts that haunt her she can perhaps find happiness once more. Maxum: Arrogant, self-centered and a bit crude, but given the fact that he comes from another dimension where he was raised in the gladiator pits does explain most of it. His unfamiliarity with Earth’s cultures and decent morals is causing some friction. I’ve had to prove I’m stronger just to get him to listen, but his hand-to-hand training almost made up for the difference. Thomas “Tommy” Heat: I was told to respect my elders so I try with Mr. Heat. But he lacks any sense of teamwork and is very disruptive to the team balance. I am impressed that man in his 80’s is in such great shape. His claims of being an early tester of some “Super Soldier” program is unsubstantiated, but he does have a lot of friends in some very interested positions in the government. Dragon: He claims to be last of his species, taken to human form in an attempt to “understand this new creature that controls the world”. He’s pretty tough, very quick and seems to know almost every martial arts ever created. And by know I mean mastered. He does seem out of place, almost child-like in his behavior, but then he will say something that shows wisdom from some ancient time. Shock: Competent beyond all belief. He doesn’t have the most experience but he knows exactly what is needed of him and goes beyond those needs. It doesn’t hurt that he’s capable of taking an incredible amount of damage. I know of only one incident in which he was knocked out and the person that did it had to cheat. He once took a direct hit from Grond barely flinched. Artemis: A fierce and savage warrior, skilled in the use of almost every archaic weapon created. She never quits, even if it means chasing a villain across frozen tundra. It took her two weeks to recover, but she caught him. She doesn’t seem to be fond of men in general but she does show some respect to Red Storm. Detective Aggie Granger: She thinks of herself as just a normal person, but she is so mush more. She can manipulate fields of force and has a Master in Physics. Dangerous combination. Her sense of duty and no nonsense attitude make her a very good friend.
  14. Re: The Deconstructing of Wynnie Wonder Paragon: Would go have a talk with the owner of E.E. Industries about the moral implications of keeping a sentient being (even a robot) under such conditions. Paragon's talks on morality have been known to convert dictators into choir boys. After all he is Paragon. (Maybe it's less the high moral standards Paragon has always exhibited and more the fact that he can lift skyscrapers and throw them into orbit.) Granted this will of course fall on deaf ears and Paragon will be forced to protect Winnie from her evil masters, without breaking the law. Darn, it's sure is hard being a boy scout. The Patriot: See above.
  15. Re: Concubine Seeks New Position Might I suggest some form of Mind Control, Ego Attack or Mental Entangle based on Seduction Rolls. Or for some added comedy how about a bunch of Followers, former thugs and minions of those she's helped defeat. They have become loyal to her and now act as her slaves. Heck make some of them UNITL or PRIMUS agents who quit to work for her as well. Imaging former Viper and UNTIL guys actually working together to cook for her, wash her clothes, drive her places. Plus if there is a problem they throw on their old gear and their new uniforms with a stylized number 3 over the heart and charge into battle all for Her.
  16. Re: F-Bombs Away! Paragon: Is incapable of saying such words. So if he did it would obviously be an impostor. Patriot: He has editors that stop him from such slips.
  17. Re: Looking for a good name How about: John "Jack" Rembrandt, the Future Visionary
  18. Re: The Worst character in comics Try a game called HOL: Human Occupied Landfill. You can generate almost anything with that twisted character creation system. Mutant, Cybernetic Oranges is all I have to say.
  19. Re: Mentalist Character Background Question. Amen on this. I mean if the player wants to spend the points for followers then by all means let them. But man would it suck one day for some evil more powerful mentalist, say like Menton to come by and Mind Control them "back"? Plus the long term moral fallout could lead to great roleplaying. Every action has an equal and devastating GM reaction, I always say.

  21. Re: The Worst character in comics What's wrong with Bishop? I've always been disappointed with most African or African-American characters. They are horrible stereotypes and pretty much reduced to gimmicks designed to play on their heritage or as sidekicks. And you really can't bring up the Milestone line as defense because it failed to do what it said it would.
  22. Re: The Golden Emperor (Ultimate Mentalist Update) Am I blind or is the only resistant DEF he has the Damage Reduction? If so I kinda of like the elegance of that build.
  23. Re: About a martial artist type My straight Martial Artist types usually have a 15 STR, 28 DEX, 18-23 CON. I aim for a 10 PD and ED and then add in some Damage Resistance or Armor (armored costume). 6-7 SPD depending on the SPD of the rest of the party, I like to have a bit higher SPD then the party as a whole. Extra Running is good (helps with Diving For Cover). Missile Deflection helps off-set some Defense needs, another reason for a higher SPD. Hope that helps.
  24. Re: The Worst character in comics I discovered Mack Bolan when I was 13. So I was very much into the limited dialog, one man killing machine with small asides involving some very PG-13 sex-capades. The prose was very simple and the plots pretty much the same, but they were entertaining. At the time I was reading about 2 books a week (school, homework, gaming, comics and other books aside). Books were around 200 pages tops. Sometime around book 60 the stories actually started getting better. Don Pendleton was no longer writing the books and several "ghost" writers had taken over, taking turns. Books came out about once every 2 months and steadily got better yet still were very simple. Every now and then they'd publish a bigger story in a 400+ page book that would include crossovers with the two other books in the same world, Phoenix Force and Able Team. Both of them were fun series as well. I also read another series around this time call Track. About a Private Eye/Special Ops guy who used a .357 Magnum and a SPAS-12 Shotgun. (Funny, everyone had a "special weapon" they used. Mack Bolan used a .44 Automag. Dan Track used a .357 Magnum.) I also read Brett Wallace, Ninja Master, a very trite but entertaining series about an American trained in the art of Ninjitsu. He killed people with his hands, swords, ice cubes, toothpicks, pretty much anything sharp or pointy. Anytime the plot lagged they'd throw in some R-rated sex scenes and all the deaths were graphically detailed.
  25. Re: The Worst character in comics Don Pendleton filed a lawsuit against Marvel Comics back in the 70's about this whole thing and actually won a settlement. Sgt. Mack Bolan (aka Col. John Phoenix) is a far superior character. I mean he was a Vietnam vet, who returned home to find out that his father had killed his whole family when he had found out his daughter was working as a prostitute to pay of his Mob gambling debt. Enraged, Mack Bolan went after the Mob, leaving dead bodies in his wake. He began to be hunted by Hal Brognola, an FBI agent with a sense of justice but bound by the law. A five year long road destroying the Mob in dozens of cities, finally led to Mack Bolan's capture and conviction of over a hundred murders. But Mack had one more chance, the US Government offered him a chance to work for them, handling problems that they couldn't officially touch, both national and international. Leading to the birth of Able Team and Phoenix Force. Operating from the Stoneridge Mountains and codenamed Stony Man, Mack Bolan underwent reconstructive surgery, was given the name John Phoenix and began a war against terrorism, drug dealers and anyone else trying to make America a bad place. (Okay so I've read alot of The Executioner books, #1-278.)
