  1. Oh Gary, just adding Unluck to a character who hasn't paid points for a gadget is so obvious and implausible. Here are are a few other suggestions: (1)Hunteds (Everybody wants the gadget in question. This works best if the gadget is one of a kind). (2)Susceptibilities (this works best withexperimental gadgets.which may notprotect the user adequately) (3)Dependencies (either the user is somehow addicted to the gadget or the gadget keeps the character alive). (4) Vulnerabilities (the gadget has damaged the user somehow,so that certain attacks do more damage). (5) Physical Limitations (the characters have been permanently maimed by the gadget malfunctioning)
  2. Remember that in JLA/Avengers Captain America was pitted against Batman, and it was a very close fight, that only ended when Captain America and Batman realized that it made more sense to team up than to indulge in a pointless brawl. Therefore it seems that both characters fill similar functions in their home universes, including the old "hero who seems less powerful than the rest of the team, but who is virtually unbeatable when the plot requires it."
  3. Sounds like he's been reading too much Sharon Best.....
  4. Excuse me,but I thought that Flight, like most END-using Powers, cost 1 END per 10 Active Points. This means that the Character's 10" of Flight cost 2 END/Phase,or with a 5 SPD it costs 10 END/TURN.So far so good. However, the character only has a REC of 4,so the character loses 6END each Turn. The example ony works if the character has purchased his Flight with the Reduced Endurance Advantage,or the character has a REC of 9.
  5. Thanks for all the hard work, Killer Shrike.Did you check out the last issue of DRAGON magazine? It was essentially a series of articles on most of TSR's old campaign settings. One of the articles was for the Al-Quadim sha'ir character class. That's right, they converted the Sha'ir class to D&D. Interested?
  6. I converted the Protectors to 4th Edition some years ago,but not to 5th Edition. However,I did manage to convert ALL of the Protectors.
  7. True enough,Thor's dailogue wasn't QUITE pseudo-Shakespearian enough...
  8. Bloody Americans. They have the nerve to invade a Middle Eastern nation already wrecked by a ruthless dictator & his crazy family, plus the UN sanctions on the pretext that lunatic has WMD's The problem being a complete lack of WMDS in Iraq. And this after months of searching, mind you. And then one of the more respected posters on this board has the gall to claim (jokingly mind you) that New Zealand is "a hive of scum & villainy" to quote George Lucas).
  9. Not for some time, but as Doctor Strange is not a member of the Avengers (as far as I know),I felt justified in not mentioning it.Besides such a fight would be a very close calll. We'd have to figure out the Hero System stats for both & then let them fight it out.
  10. Personally, I hope Zl'f has bought Reduced Endurance for her Running, since it would cost her 6 END each phase she uses 28 or more inches of Running. With her 9 SPD, she would expend 54 END per TURN!!!
  11. True enough, but he had his older brothers with him,who are never described as having his shapeshifting powers. He'd probably keep himself & all his brothers at gigantic size, and they all swam home together.
  12. Well if Kazei Five is as well written as the second edition of Ninja Hero AND there was a paper version available,I would probably buy it.
  13. Personally,I'd think Captain America could take out Green Lantern ( when he took back his power from Mordru near the end of The Princes Of Darkness story arc,it manifested itself as a power ring,so he called himself Green Lantern again) IF he observed Alan Scott's vulnerability to wood.Otherwise Green Lantern would win. Personally,I also think that Doctor Fate (if this is the Hector Hall version) could beat the entire Avengers singlehanded. After all, every time he's fought Mordru, that Lord of Chaos has eventually lost-and that lunatic's usually taken on the entire LSH singlehandedly!
  14. Which is why he'd make a great mystic defender of New Zealand. In a fight between Maui and Godzilla,I'd expect Maui to win.
  15. Oh,Trebuchet, according to my calculations Zl'f would do 12d6 damage with a Passing Strike. If I'm right that means you've limited her to,at most,11d6 of damage.
  16. Thanks Hermit.Ahh..how much is ARGENT worth as a Hunted..... And New Zealand DOES have someone who could serve as a "mystic defender"; Maui himself, who, accordingly to the Maori legends, pulled the North Island out of the sea. (The South Island is supposed to be Maui's canoe. How Maui and his brothers got home is never explained.)
  17. Well,I'm not sure that Xena would consider herself a superhero...... And,while Lucy Lawless is a New Zealander, her character,Xena, ISN'T... And,from what I heard,Tuatara was just the "token NZ hero",put in to show the Global Guardians were an international organization....
  18. I was just annoyed that someone would copy & then post up an altered version of same, when I'm not yet able to do so,not having installed any of the graphics programs mentioned in this thread.
  19. Why,oh why are all heroes from the South Pacific Australian???? Why can't New Zealand have a superhero or two??
  20. Drat,I'll now have to search through my collection of old AC's to see if I have issue #11.Remember, though,as all the Adventurer's Club were published before FREd,some conversion will be necessary (especially as I think that the BBB (Big Blue Book) came out about the same time as issue #15) .
  21. Agreed.I also suggest that the originator of this thread provide more details on the invasion force. Some examples: (1)What powers do they have (or do they just have ultra-tech gadgets)? A race with innate superpowers has more options than one without. (2)What kind of technology do they have? A race which relies on bio-tech (such as the Zygons from Doctor Who) has a whole different feel than the traditional space invaders.More to the point,it's easier to justify the PCs not getting cool alien toys if the base technology is sufficiently strange.Given that one of the PCs is an amnesiac member of this race, though, you probably intend for the PCs to at least get at least one alien gadget. (3)Since one of the PCs is an amnesiac invader,it's safe to say that the invaders must not be innately evil.At least some of the higher-ups should be prepared to listen to reason. (4)What are the invader's primary and secondary objectives? Unless the player wants to retire the PC in question, retrieving the PC in question should be ,at best, a secondary objective.
  22. True enough.I shudder to think of someone writing up the ancient Lancashire martial art of Ecky-Thump (from the Goodies episode Kung Fu Kapers) which is mostly about bopping people on the head with black puddings. The primary maneuver in this art must be built with the following elements:+2 OCV,+2d6N-damage,Target Falls for a cost of 5 points.
  23. Oh,who said that? I wasn't aware any body on this board knew where I live. And the reason I was annoyed was,as I said,Idon't know how to alter my avatar.I would have rather had a post telling me how to do this,or at least directing me to a relevant post on these boards.
