  1. Fake Swimsuit Edition Err "V" you do know that the version with Michael Jackson in a thong was a fake? You have the REAL Super Scum Swimsuit Edition. And I have to concur with Space Cadet on this.
  2. NZ Supers Why it's true that 150 million supers DOES seem excessive,it's possible that the supers have serious weaknesses that prevent them from being a threat.
  3. New Zealand,Perhaps? If the campaign was set in New Zealand,I would certainly want to play one of the "liberating magi".
  4. Vampire Martial Artists So do I -but it stretches belief that all vampires know martial arts.Sure many of them live for centuries, but, until recently ,martial arts (as we know them today) were mainly studied in the Far East.Dracula might have been a master swordsman, but if he's a master vampire in a modern campaign he shouldn't be doing karate chops. Also, remember that vampires are supposed to have superhuman strength and speed. If I were creating a vampire template,I'd add 20+ points to STR and double a converted chatacter's DEX & SPD.
  5. Vampires Vampires have too many Vulnerabilities as it is.... Interestingly, vampires originally WEREN'T destroyed by sunlight-they just lost their powers. We have F.W.Murnau's film Nospheratu to thank for this. For those who might want to build a modern vampire,I suggest they read Lee Killough's Bloodhunt and Bloodlinks.(I suggest trying second-hand bookstores,as i first read these years ago.)
  6. Death Some sort of vampire, perchance?
  7. Can Add Adders Advantage for Aid Not having my copy of FREd with me, I believe that an Aid that can add Adders to a Power is an Aid with a +1 Power Advantage (It still isn't possible to add Advantages to an existing Power, though). If you can only add Power Advantages to the existing MP then you might want to purchase Variable Advantage as a Naked Power Advantage, with the -1/2 limitation "Not Usable when VPP is in use".
  8. Flying Through The Air Have you ever flown through the air under your own power? I don't think so.... While I could see someone like Quasar (the Marvel character that is) not getting any exercise from flying, winged flyers such as the Angel are certainly exercising on a constant basis while in flight.
  9. Things To Come Actually Things To Come was based off the novel by H.G.Wells.
  10. Apocalypse Hero Two classic novels that have not been mentioned here are John Wyndham's Day of The Triffids,The Chrysalids & The Kraken Wakes (though in the last book humanity is decimated, but civilisation still survives).Oh,and by the way,Damnation Alley was originally a novel-most people consider the movie to be a bastardization of the original book.I also cannot believe that Harlan Ellison's A Boy and his Dog wasn't mentioned.
  11. GURPS IST Web Site Bob Schroeck's Website, Access Denied!, is at http://www.eclipse.net/~rms/index.html
  12. Energy Production For level 9 of the Energy Production List, how about using "Stellar Power".After all,our Sun's energy output is equal to four million tons being converted to energy EVERY SECOND.
  13. Absorption Question Answered Since your character's Absorption can absorb a maximum of 40 BODY points of damage, from either physical or energy attacks, and both types of Absorption increase the same Power list, how about buying the character's Absorption once, but with the +1 Advantage that enables the character to either absorb physical or energy attacks (see the list of Power Advantages in the description of Absorption.)
  14. New Zealand Heroes How about for New Zealand Heroes, have a descendant of Maui find his ancestors trademark weapon, and finds out that while wielding it,he is possessed by the spirit of Maui himself, which grants him all of Maui's abilities and powers, which include:high INT and shapeshifting abilities (Maui is the perfect example of the Trickster Hero archetype),the ability to communicate with birds, immunity to fire Usable on Others (One of Maui's feats was, with the help of his four elder brothers, the crippling of the Maori sun god so that the days would be a reasonable length),great stength and growing abilities (Maui's most famous legendary feat was him pulling up the North Island out from the bottom of the sea.The South Island was supposed to be Maui's canoe).
  15. Ludicrous Attacks Actually, since the whole point of an NND attack is that it ignores most defenses,it shouldn't be possible to buy the AP Advantage for an NND attack.(that's probably one of the reasons the AVLD Advantage was created). And what campaign has attacks with 250 Active points? (Dragonball Z Hero excepted).
  16. Captain America I,ve noticed that the first version of Captain America that was posted in this thread had both his REC & END bought down by 4 & 5 points respectively. It states on pg. 25 of FReD that one can only "sell back" one Figured Characteristc at a time.Furthermore,it seems out of the character concept "The peak of human perfection" to have REC & END reduced. The super-soldier serum was supposed to fix those sorts of problems...
  17. Cost of Armor Of course,if you state that all Powers built with the "Costs END" Limitation are Visible by default,Armor with the "Costs END" Limitation has the same Real Cost as an equally-effective Force Field.
  18. Level Costs If memory serves,in Fantasy Hero !st Edition an AD & D level was supposed to be the equivalent of 20 experience points. Thus a 20th level wizard would have 180 more points than a 1st level wizard.
  19. Daemon Pronunciation "Daemon" is pronounced "day-mon".
  20. Elemental Control :Electricity First off,Special Powers (such as Endurance Reserve) normally require GM's permission to be purchased in Power Frameworks,so the character would have to pay the full Real Cost of the Power (33 points if bought through an OIF). Next we come to the characters Elemental Control.Assuming the entire EC is bought with an OIF,we have an Electrical Powers EC with a base of 15 Active Points 9The base points Real Cost is reduced to 10 because of the OIF Limitation.I 'd buy these Powers as follows: Batteries: Endurance Reserve (300 END, 20 REC) (OIF -1/2) (50 AP/33 Real Cost) Elemental Control : Electrical Powers: (OIF -1/2) (15 point base,Real Cost 10) Jet Boots: 15"Flight (15/10) Electro-gloves: 6d6 AP EB (30/20) Electrical Field: Force Field (30 PD/30 ED) (45/30) Lightning Flash: 6d6 Flash vs. Sight,Hearing and Radio Sense Groups,Area Effect(Radius),Selective, (90 Active),2 Charges that Cost END(-1 3/4) (75/23)
  21. Green Lantern Since the DC Heroes writeup gave all the power rings Omni-Power (which enables the character to mimic any Power in the game for an HP fee) I'd give the Hero System writeup a VPP of between 35-60 Active Points.
  22. Green Lantern I'd treat the power ring as OHID,myself as the ring user can summon it by mental command.Incidentally the power ring has probably always had a computer system,as I remember Green Lanterns accessing the ring database well before those rotters Priest,Gerard Jones and Ron Marz got their twisted paws on the book.
  23. Mecha I agree-if mecha are used in future combat, they will probably more resemble the Bubblegum Crisis hardsuits instead of the Gundams. Incidentally, has anybody thought about how ridiculous the Super-Soldier Serum is.How could Professor Erskine develop what amounts to nanotechnology in the 1940's?
  24. Quick:Champions or TUV? While having a copy of Champions would be nice, I think I'd rather have a copy of TUV.I want to have a look at all the vehicle writeups...
  25. Fantasy as a Genre As explained in the first edition of Fantasy Hero, what distinguishes fantasy from other genres is the presence of magic. Tangentially,I think that setting active points in the fantasy genre is usually a bad idea, unless you want a low-powered setting. It seems more in genre to limit the Real Cost of a spell to either INT (for mages), EGO (for psionics),and PRE (for clerics).
