  1. Re: Unused Bird/Flying Creature Motifs Actually, if you were going to be Albatross, you should have ranged missle reflection, only to reflect crossbow bolts at you!
  2. Re: Unstoppable Extra strength, only while in motion(-1/2), lots and lots of extra strength, only for casual strength(-1/2), only to break/destroy obstacles without stopping(-1/2), etc.
  3. Re: Costume design help...please? Simplicity might work, black suit with blue boots, red gloves and a white star on one corner/side of the suit- not large but noticeable.
  4. Re: Falling Down Hero Probably as a cross between the two- a group of people who've just had one bad day too many see something that catalyses them to take action and then the mayhem ensues from there... Hmmmm, this would probably work as a one shot or a very short-lived pbem.
  5. Re: The cranky thread I like my job but it does require people that I loate- so far I've been forced to render assistance to the SBVFT, An Anti-ABortion Website, A Pro-Gun Website, the Bush/Cheney Official merchandise site, as well as assorted other groups that managed to annoy me in ways various and sundry. I wonder what kind of havok I could wreak if not burdened by that troublesome integrity that Trebuchet accused me of having
  6. Re: Unusual Character Ideas Well, it wsn't that normal but was colored by the player's perceptions of gaming and not by a desire or demand that she make an odd character- she was a powerful fey who had been the first Belle, diminutive sidekick to the SAS character Pan, and had later been a fey ambassador to Olympus, where, you guessed it: She has an affair with Zeus. The character was my character's mother and it made for a HIGHLY dysfunctional childhood raised in a giant treehouse in the middle of Central Park the bastard child of an unknown father. She was highly effective with her magic but quite physically frail- she was the party member I had to (choose to?) heal the most.
  7. Re: Unusual Character Ideas I was in a game whee everyone but one player had characters like this- mine was Dr. Zeus, mildly disturbed lighning wielder who later discovered he was actually the lastest in a long line of Zeus' illegitimate children, and the only one of them to get the lightning! Then there was the Spirit of '76- I know what you're thinking, patriotic character, right? Wrong- he was the livinh embodiment of the 70's- think a cross between the Shadow, Batman, and Black Belt Jones- he did have a styling ride and a pimp-cane though. And last but not least, Che- a super strong brick that at one point beats the death god Hades in an arm-wrestling match. But here's the fun part- he was the reincarnation of Che Gueverra empowered with great abilities by the loas of voodoo fame and was the national hero of Cuba.
  8. Re: The champions have returned I have the firt issue of the new Flare ongoing series, the back up story has Sparkplug being captured by Terror Inc Members Muerte and Giganto.
  9. Re: A Thread for Random Musings The company that I work for has been hit with DDOS attacks for a week straight- my job sucks right now...
  10. Re: The Greatest American Hero (book). Hands down, Strike Force- a cool campaign world, good GM'ing advice and some of the coolest characters to ever grace a Champions book.
  11. Re: the 5th Edition CU is by far the best While I like some of the new things(USPD and dying to get my hands on the new Viper Book), I prefer just about any previous version of the CU, including the CNM, to the 5th version. It lacks the vibrancy and chaos of the past versions and I feel that is a terrible loss. Also, and this is no slight on Steve, but I have always felt that many authors strenghtens the mix- one thing that pissed me off about Palladium games even when I liked them, was the fact that one guy wrote nearly every book, and yet all the greatest things written for that company, weren't written by him. But, in his defense, he did create the game and create its universe so they really were "his to ruin"- such is not the case here, while I appreciate the current group for saving Hero from destruction, they are not living up (IMHO) to the precedents set by those that created the game and developed the world. The worst thing for me is seeeing things from past CUs that I loved (such as CLOWN and Neutral Ground) not making the cut simply because Steve doesn't like them... so what? Then he can let someone else who does like the characters update them to the current CU. He may own the system but his decisions are tantamount to someone buying MArvel or DC and then killing off long time heroes for no better reason than "I don't like them and I don't care what the readers think." But, that's just my opinion and most will likely not agree, so be it.
  12. As I was reading the section of DC on Resource pools, it made me think of the movie Falling Down and how the main character basically assembles his kit and arsenal over the course of a VERY BAD DAY... anyone else consider the idea of doing a one-shot type of game like this movie- one or two charcters just trying to make it home from a real bad day while trying to also survive the urban city at the same time?
  13. Re: Healing Champions The last supers game that I was in, the team had two members capable, My character Dr. Zeus, who would stimulate the bio-electrical field of others to induce instantaneous regeneration and the Faerie character that was my character's mother- she used her magic pool to heal. And we needed it too! Whether fighting Daikaiju, taunting gods and angering VERY powerful supervillains, we needed all the health we could get. And it made sense too- my character often took time out of combat to heal his physically less potent mother rather than fight, even though he was the team's most powerful member in sheer power level, if not in skills or combat ability. Man, I still miss that game!
  14. Re: Gods and Champions The Kevin Smith arcs of both Daredevil and Green Arrow dealt with the christian mythos in a fairly even-handed way: Smith, himself a catholic, seems to be able to handle investigation of religious matters without getting ovely preachy or offensive either.
  15. Re: Help me build the Civic Guard I had an idea like this awhile back- Granville, the protector of Vancouver. Basically he was a nrmal person empowered by the spirit of the city with its powers- he knew every nook and cranny, could move anywhere within the city limits instantly, was as strong as the very bedrock the city was lain upon, could move as fast along the city streets as any car, etc. His chief weakness was that he had a phyisal link to these powers- the black gloves he wore while protecting the city. H could lose his powers, though only someone that knew both his weakness and the right magical ceremony could steal his powers.
  16. Re: Is this sick or what? That's messed up Katherine, but I've heard worse- over on RPG.Net there was one guy talking about a villain in his game that the gm decked out in Baby Armor- as in, live babies strapped all over his body as a defensive measure- now THAT'S sick!
  17. Re: A Modern League of Extroardinary Gentlemen Coming in late and too lazy to read back over the thread so sorry if these ones have been listed or are not appropriate, but I think that a League of Extraordinary Gentleman with contemporary literary figures would be well suite by the following members: Jack/Tyler Durden- doesn't sleep, insane pain threshold, decnt combatant and can blow up just about anything using common household components and soap Hannibal Lecter- Insane and psychotic, he could act as the team scholar as well as keeping control over Jack/Tyler. Which leads me to: Clarice Starling- the team government liason and a hell of a mean shot herself. Also, she is a skilled undercover agent and behavioral studies agent. Shadow- The protagonist of American Gods has seen some weird shit, has developed a few useful powers and is almighty big and scary. Plus, he's a student of slight of hand and seems very good at finding the right thing to say to get others to help him. He's also Odin's youngest son. Can't think of any more right now, except maybe one or two members of the cast of Neverwhere.
  18. Okay, so I had this idea- I revamped a quite sad old independent hero who was bought out by DC and went on to... well, not much of anything really. I made a legacy character from the Red Bee. I don't have time to type it up and post it now, but will do so in the next few days, but the gist is that he's the grandson of Rick Raleigh, a District Attorney who gets fed up and starts fighting crime with a stinger gun and trained bees, as well as one of the least fear-inspiring costumes ever. Rick Raleigh (the younger) grew up idolizing his grandfather and decides he wants to follow in his grandpa's footsteps, which his parents think means becoming a lawyer, which he does, but he also studies science and boxing and crime itself and soon hits the streets as the new Red Bee, armed with robotic stinger Red Bees, a pair of wrist-mounted 'stinger' launchers, and an armored costume. His insect-like goggles allow him enhanced vision and to see and hear anything his bees see or hear within 150" of him. A fairly decent boxer and exremely forceful personality are also important parts of his crime-figting arsenal. Anyone else want to give it shot?

  20. Re: Good places to have battles...and stuff Back in issues 24-25 of the original Byrne series, the last issues he wrote and drew before leaving the series.
  21. Re: Good places to have battles...and stuff *The underground part of Montreal *The Japanese Shrine at Nagoya during New Year's Day celebrations(I've always wondered what someone would look like after getting hit with an O-Mochi mallet ) *Vancouver's Sky train, while in motion above the streets of the city *The half abandoned but super-cool International Village mall in East Vancouver *Across the length and breadth of Prince Edward Island(would take about a turn for a speedster to cross the whole province) *A running battle along the top pf the Great Wall of China *In the underwater tunnel that connects Detroit with Windsor, Ontairio
  22. Re: "Super" Cities- How many is too many? Thanks for the responses. Reason I asked is because I'm trying to map out a game world and had planned on Two advanced "city of tomorrow" type places in the USA- Century City in California and maybe Empire City to replace New York, plus on super city in Northern Canada, in a town I used to live in, called Coast City(that's its new name, its really called Prince Rupert). I was just trying to figure out if that might stretch things a bit, having three such cities. Appreciate the input.
  23. How many super cities/cities of the future/metahuman hubs would you have in your game world, and why?
  24. Re: Code VS Killing Poll Actually, the sad fact of the matter is that often it seems that denigrating other's opinions is exactly what Jack is here for. He seems to be under the impression that his opinion is more important or more valid than anyone else's, which is not the case. He doesn't even attempt to phrase his responses such that, in his opinion, "superheroes don't kill"- he tries to portray it as objective fact, which it is not. And that is why he is childish and limited- because he refuses to admit that other ways of thinking might also be valid, not because he thinks superheroes don't kill.
  25. Re: Code VS Killing Poll As to your first point, is it more heroic of Batman to hold his principles as more important than the lives of those the Joker WILL kill. Its not like Joker will stop killing and Batman KNOWS no prison can hold him for long. So maybe he should do the right thing and kill the Joker, then he can quit fighting crime, turn himself in, or do whatever other things necessary to live with what he's done, instead of letting innocents die because he doesn't have the courage to do the only thing that will stop the Joker from killing again. As to the second part, yes I have been avoiding politics, I currently have things going on IRL that are more important to me than arguing with people- and really that's all it is, no one changes their mind and everyone gets ugly(including myself, I must admit) and the world is no better for it. Yes I am well, just started a new job for the company that I work for, doing tech support and have gotten my driver's license re-instated so I'm driving again too. I'm actually a little nervous how well my life is going right now...
