  1. Re: Could someone tell me about star hero? Psstt...... If you need a quick module for an Alien Wars game, checkout the "Licensed Products."
  2. Re: Artificial gravity produced. Actually, it's Jello
  3. Re: Artificial gravity produced. Okay, news this cool has got to deserve rep!
  4. Re: Help with some character ideas Some sort of Face/Con-Man/Used-Car Salesman/Former Gun Smuggler type? (Keep seeing a short overweight guy with a goatee and an English accent.) Seems like they could use someone to deal with People in Dark Alleys when fighting isn't the preferred modus operandi.
  5. Re: Question about Star Hero Since you're just starting out with Hero and Star Hero, if you decide to try Alien Wars there's a new licensed .pdf module at the Hero Games Web Store that you might want to look into ------------ Shameless Self-Promotion Rescue at Karadonna It's $4.00 The module is adaptable to any size playing group up to 12 players and 12 pregenerated characters are provided. It will work with Sidekick or the full 5ER rules set. (There are a few minor items not covered in Sidekick, but their names are fairly self-explanatory for their specific instance and you could wing it for the purpose of the module.)
  6. Re: A couple of Hero Pictures Nice character design . Mind if I ask "How long have you been using Poser? And how long did it take you to get used to the program?" (I'm looking at getting the software myself, but it's not a trivial expense at this point in my life ) Thanks CT
  7. Re: Flying, mini's and combat I saved it with Illustrator as a .pdf (which, in theory, should work with anyone with Acrobat Reader from even 2 years ago.) Saving it this time with Acrobat 6.0
  8. Re: Flying, mini's and combat Here's something I cooked up quickly awhile back. [Listed on new posting. Some people had trouble with the file.] Print up on cardstock or glossy-paper with a decent rigidity and tape together. Only covers heights 1-3" above ground level. (They should stack up to 6", but depends upon how strong and rigid the cardstock and how well you put them together.) Also put in -1 to -3" for underground/underwater folks. For range computations, Pythogras works well as long as somebody remembers to bring a calculator in case you're talking about large numbers
  9. Re: 6th Edition thoughts Well, I'd like to see a small change on the Language chart: Korean and Japanese should have a 2 or 3 point similarity.
  10. Re: Desktop Star Ships (Wallpapers?) Wow, haven't had a thread worth 2 rep 'awards' for a very long time
  11. Re: Genres HERO GAMES may want to avoid (intended to be humorous) Darnit! You had to go and do something like that before I could give you rep again!
  12. Re: Genres HERO GAMES may want to avoid (intended to be humorous) Lawn Ornament Hero 50's Model Family Sitcom Hero Dust Bunny Hero
  13. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Wasn't it wonderful that the nice Greeting Card Salesman played by Mr. Keith "I am not a secret agent from CONTROL" Curtis got his suitcase back?

    Pulparize It!

Re: Pulparize It! The Prisoner -- Swap time to just before WWII. Rovers look like Mini-Zepplins. Number 2 must always be a femme fatal.
  15. Re: Back into Hero ... First, Welcome back to Hero, Slasherdan! Personally, I like this option in that it gives you more flexibility and less a feeling of magic items with LED counters on them telling how many bullets are left (particularly if it's a Multipower) But I have to agree with John that it could lead to Accounting Angst. I guess a good question to ask is: "How familiar is everyone else in the group with the HERO System?"
  16. Re: 20 Years ago Today I was still in school at the time When I first heard the news, I thought there'd been a pad fire like Apollo 1. Then we saw the footage... Personally, I'd become an astronaut in a heartbeat if I could. But I'm the kind who feels the potential future rewards to humanity outweigh the risks. Also makes you appreciate people in certain jobs (like Police and Fire Fighters) a lot more. They take a similar risk every day.
  17. Re: Epic Fantasy: The Five Essentials I'd personally suggest seeing Kirosawa's original movies from which those two were copied... "Seven Samuari" "Hidden Fortress"
  18. Re: Epic Fantasy: The Five Essentials Hmm.. Well, anyone attempting to write anything within the Fantasy genre should at least read The Odyssey and the Epic of Gligamesh. Shortest span of time I could think of would be five days to one week: 1. LoTR (Extended movie plus actually read The Scouring of the Shire until the end ) 2. Magician series by Raymond E. Feist (This person better be a fast read. Books aren't very thick, but there are 4 of them.) 3. Slayers Next (Yeah, it's comic. But you don't get any more epic than the final couple of episodes.) 4. Record of Lodos War And (I might get blasted for this one) 5. The Secret of NIMH
  19. Re: Space Adventure: The Five Essentials Hmm... Absolute MUST read for any science fiction Grandmaster's Choice (Short Story Collection) Andre Norton, Editor: Tom Doherty Assoc Llc (October 1, 1991) However, that's not specifically Space Adventure, so here's my list of 5 without the usual Star Wars and Star Trek stuff: #1. Babylon 5 Season Two: The Long Twilight Struggle If I possible, watch the entire series (or at least season 2) #2. Cowboy Bebop Pick an episode or two #3. In Conquest Born C.S. Friedman (military without a complete jarhead mentality) #4. This Alien Shore C.S. Friedman (Gibsonian in space) #5. Titan A.E. One slight issue that a person might have with such a limited time is that #3 & #4 are pretty hefty novels. Would suggest Season 2 of Babylon 5 unless that person is an insanely fast reader. I'm only on the 3rd season of B5 (Netflix is great!). Give honorable mention to Last Starfighter, Star Blazers, Robotech, and, of course, the Original Battlestar Galactica. I can't give an opinion on Space 1999, but I vaguely recall some really nifty stuff.
  20. Re: Map Software Just got CC2 Pro myself about a week ago. The learning curve is a b*** (particularly the way the interface invokes the system's state machine), but once you get the hang of the program it's a gem. BTW, if you're looking to clean up maps and do some extra work on them with Illustrator, what format would you use? I've personally found that printing them to PDF works better than the various export formats (Although I am using Illustrator 10. Hoping to update my Adobe stuff this year. ) CT
  21. Re: First time Hero buyer <> Welcome to the Club NMR! BTW, Sean, that avatar gives me serious 1980's video flashback
  22. Re: Real-Life Hyperspace Theory? Could be right that this is 'junk science.' Then again, science is simply an incomplete description of What Is, and there have been many paradigm shifts (and will probably be a few more.) That's without even going near the debate about how much influence observers have on things... BTW, there's now some interesting observations concerning the properties of space-time near black holes that suggest space-time might be pretty close in properties to the 'luminiferous aether' that was debunked over a century ago with the Michelson-Morley experiment, and that they weren't as completely wrong as has been assumed. http://www.sciamdigital.com/browse.cfm?ITEMIDCHAR=5D1B0A6E-2B35-221B-66BE12222958AD41&methodnameCHAR=&interfacenameCHAR=browse.cfm&ISSUEID_CHAR=5CE65F08-2B35-221B-6CA922740414072A&ArticleTypeSubInclude_BIT=0&sequencenameCHAR=itemP
