  1. Re: The Punisher vs Bugs Bunny Bugs will win.... Unless.... Frank somehow figures out how to "hire" the Gremlin or the Turtle (They both kicked Bugs' butt. Particularly the Gremlin. Although, he'd probably be way too chaotic to "hire.") Then it's difficult to tell. But in a strictly mano-a-mano fight, Bugs would definitely win.
  2. Re: So You Want to Run Sword and Sorcery... There's always the classic (Use innumerably in Saturday Serials to explain how the heroes survived Certain Doom from last week's Epsiode.) "Different Camera Angle" The players thought the bad guy got it because of their viewpoint. If they would have been standing over THERE, then they would see that convenient outcropping on the side of the 1,000' cliff which just happens to have a tunnel providing a very nice escape route to the valley below
  3. Re: THRILLING PLACES -- What Do *You* Want To See? The always classic "Secret" Nazi Rocket/A-Bomb/Zombie-Legion-Creation-Experiement Laboratory located somewhere inside a mountain. Having an old abbey/monastary as part of the facility is sorta standard. A section of it could also double for a quick-and-easy lab for the Heroic Dr. Something-or-other-ov.
  4. Hi Steve! In Valdorian Age scapegoats cannot give away a token since they don't have sorcerer training (p. 122) Any Official Ruling on what happens if someone steals a token from a 'scapegoat?' (Or would it be best covered under House Rules &/ GM Caveat and this question posted to the Hero System Discussion Thread?) Sorcerers can either give tokens away or 'loose' them if they are stolen. The section doesn't mention what happens if a token is stolen from a 'scapegoat.' Thought I'd ask since Sorcery almost always involves some sort of conscious and deliberate act (ie. Skill Roll) and the specified reasoning in the text itself behind the 'scapegoat's not being able to get rid of a token is lack of Sorcerer Training; however, if a token is stolen from a Sorcerer, that requires no volition from the Sorcerer. Thanks, Tom
  5. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... The GM (Zakuiens) said: "Hi! Remember Me? I'm the person who erased your memory!"
  6. Re: The Onion Provides an instant Pulp Adventure! Yeah, Good old Grozo. Throws great parties and never skimps on the munchies
  7. Re: What would you use to demo, HERO? Ditto. I only reference the Big Book for the occasional detail (such as some of the autofire rules which stubbornly refuse to stick in my brain ) Stay clear of Power Frameworks and use Charges instead of Endurance whenever possible. When I run multiple sessions, I like to run different power levels. That way, if anyone asks which game to try, I ask them what type of character they want to play. For SoCal I ran an Alien Wars scenario (Standard Heroic), a UMA Scenario using the Hidden Lands settings (Low-Powered Superheroic), and a Galactic Champions (Very High Powered). Also substituted for the 3d6 Prey and Play (Standard Superheroic Characters). Always have a battlemat/megamat with paper minis and, if I have the opportunity, I slap together some sort of rudimentary visual together.
  8. Re: InQuest Awards Would Pulp like roses or chocolates? Voted for Pulp Hero, Gloom (Transparent cards are nifty...), and a couple of other items.
  9. Re: Realistic Hero Games How about: Realistic Star Hero - You and several generations of your descendents spend their entire lives on a reallly long and boring road trip. When you finally find a planetary system capable of supporting human life, everyone's wiped out in two weeks from some sort of native microscopic lifeform. Or maybe Realistic Star Hero - You and your crewmates spend a very long time as frozen meat. When you wake up, it's to the same fate as above.

  13. Re: Fantasy Cliches I like VH rule #10 about the lunar cycle in Eastern Europe being 4 days long
  14. Re: Women in Pulp adventures? If you want to include a seductress who uses the rampant sexism of a Pulp environment to her advantage as either a heroine or a villian, you could use Mata Hari as a base. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mata_Hari
  15. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER On a similar vein, For anyone who wants to manually synch their PC with the official US Atomic clock: http://www.time.gov Only gives US time zones, but when you get the result it does do one of those nifty "daylight here / night time here" maps.
  16. Re: Sci-fi swear words? I am aghast that the board moderators would allow such expansive use of the "B" word With that said, I'll get back to reading The Collected Works of the Great Volron Poets (2,354.33333 pgs, Snootcourt and Quadriday Intergalactic Press)
  17. Re: Campaign Ideas: Why are they on this ship? A good inspiration source for a campaign like that would be the first two seasons of (Gene Roddenberry's) Andromeda, http://www.andromedatv.com/
  18. Re: RIP: James Doohan Ditto. Always sad to see someone go who, from all appearances, made the most of a very interesting life. CT
  19. Re: Star Hero Idea: Starship of the week Hey Cat, I haven't used my old Inspire 3d (The short-lived "Lightwave Lite") software for some time and thought I might try and do a basic model with it. When you say 128 low births, would everyone get the same ticket, or would there be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd class passengers? And would they have separate accomodations? (For example, I could definitely see the 1st class accomodations each having a survival pod, while 3rd class passengers share rooms and an evacuation shuttle.) How many crew, BTW? CT
  20. Re: I'm considering Hero... I find Hero Designer + Laptop works wonders. Players write down concepts and notes ahead of session. If a player knows the system, he will usually work out ideas for powers(/spells/items/etc...). They usually also give ball park estimates of characteristic scores. Once you've used the program and HERO System enough, each character takes 10-30 minutes to look over, plug into HD, and "prune." I export to HTML (onto a jump drive if we're not at my place) and print them on-site
  21. Re: Batman's home city is Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, not Gotham City, New Jersey Millionaire's Row (to my recollection) doesn't provide really good locations for a Bat Cave. My suggestion is to take up half of Mt. Washington with the Wayne Estate (That way you get a nice big cliff overlooking the city skyline, plenty of locations to place an exit for the Batmobile, and you're right near Station Square which you could scale up a few notches to be truly unafordable. ) Could probably do something really cool with the Incline. Does Alferd speak with a proper British accent? Or does he speak in "proper Pittsburgheese?" "Hey! Bruce! Barb! Yunz better stop drinking Iron City and go Daowntaown. Looks like the Joker's doing somthin' at the Stiller's Game!" --translated into Standard Alfred -- "Master Wayne, may I suggest that you and Ms. Gordon take a look at the city center. It appears that the Joker has some grievance with the professional rugby players." I'm guessing that the color scheme is black-and-gold?
  22. Re: From Confederation to Union, Star Hero to Galactic Champion. Your thoughts? Here's my extrapolation based upon the TE material on the Fassai question: From the TE description, my gut feeling is that the Fassai at least tried to go on their own. I'm guessing that they can't. They either join the Union or get taken over. --- Necessary Strife Within the Union In the Terran Empire the Fassai were trying to get back into the good faith of the Confederation after warring on a fellow member. The Catavalans were "steadfastly loyal to Confederation principles." TE mentions that the social structures are very stable but also in a 'petrified' state whose qualities lead to very frequent conflict. The Catavalans also have a different more-or-less calcified socio-cultural structure. The TE's description of the Fassai culture indicates that they have a tendency towards brash actions. The Catavalans are almost Ent-like in their approach. That all being said, however, the Union and the Fassai are surrounded by much larger hostile entities and the old idea of 'The enemy of my enemy is my friend' might trump all other socio-cultural issues. ------ Hostile Takeover If they're a species under siege, from the map in the Terran Empire (and extrapolating that the Fassai will still be centered on their home world of Kadrigar), I'd go with Roin'esh control (The appearance of being an independent entity while the heads of the houses are secretly Roin'esh agents is a great campaign plot seed ) or maybe a blunt Ackailan takeover. --------------------------------- General Galactic Champions: Think there's any chance we might see a Galactic Map circa 3000 slapped into the back of the Worlds of Empire? (Although I'm guessing that the Roin'esh 'Union's borders will probably be in dotted lines )
  23. Re: Longest Running Thread EVER I think that we need to write a grant to carry out a preliminary study of the cost of doing a detailed and complete study of the average distribution of Governmentium both on Earth and in the Known Universe. Do you think that $100,000,000 is too much?
  24. Re: How to get them off d20 This might or might not work. I'm not very familiar with all of the 'fixes' that 3.5 implemented, but I know that in 3.0... Deploy NPC opponents with maxed out Attacks of Opportunity.
