  2. Re: Foods for those that just don't care anymore Hoping this hasn't already been posted: How about a nice bacon sundae at Denny's?
  3. Re: A Thread for Random Videos What is this? Exactly what it says, that's what! http://io9.com/#!5790879/watch-a-live-orchestra-play-a-medley-of-swinging-tracks-from-the-venture-bros
  4. Re: A Thread For Random Links A bed-time story for the modern age: Little Red Robin Hood.
  5. Re: Nothing say subtle like a Hello Kitty Chainsaw If I got shot by one of those, I'd be kinda glad I was dead!
  6. Re: Strange events...what do YOU (not your character) do? This is the up-side to living in the middle of nowhere: I could experiment with my new abilities (whatever they might be) without drawing any undue attention. Beyond that, I'd probably keep quiet, and wait to see how the "outside world" reacted to the situation. Quietly make inquiries to find out if certain people had also been changed. If yes, expose them. If not, go and pay them a long-overdue visit. Either that or shave off my oh-so-evil goatee and swear to use my powers only for good....
  7. Re: Combat Incompetence Okay, now you're just making my brain hurt....
  8. Re: Combat Incompetence Even if it is the most useless thing ever, that's kind of the point -- it raises uselessness to a whole new level of awesome, and that's not something you see every day. This takes not only creativity and talent, but also a certain amount of guts to even attempt. Most people wouldn't even try.
  9. Re: Tactile Metal Control powers In 5e it's fairly inexpensive (compared to 6e!) to Drain multiple characteristics; a Drain for PD, ED and Body with the only v. metal limitation should work against both characters and objects.
  10. Re: Combat Incompetence That is awesome on multiple levels. Repped. Another good modifier for "less than useful" martial maneuvers is the ever-popular "extra segment", for those who tend to freeze up, hesitate, or 'telegraph' their next move so their opponent can see it coming.
  11. Re: The "Nice Happy" Thread Thanks, everyone. I'm hopeful the job market is improving for others as well. After my most recent lay-off, I was amazed at how much things have changed since last year. I spent most of 2009 and a good part of 2010 job-hunting, and it seemed completely hopeless. Fast-forward to March, 2011: I was job-hunting again, and saw immediate results -- three interviews in as many weeks. Last time around I didn't get that many interviews in over a year. (And this time around, they were all interviews for good jobs.) So good luck to everyone else here who's job hunting. The job market appears to be showing signs of life.
  12. Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine There is that -- the 'wind-blown cape' option is a little crazy; I fiddled around with it for a bit, and almost decided to use something else. It's the body proportions that are really bugging me. I'm considering doing it over with a 'standard' full-body template instead of the alternate arms/legs, and seeing if that works better.
  13. Re: Aid vs. Time Limited One minor point: the Time Limit modifier is normally available only for powers which cost 0 End, or cost End only to activate. Buying the (+1/2) Reduced Endurance Cost modifier for the above will increase the cost to 6pts. STR is an unusual case among characteristics because it has an End cost, so for other characteristics this wouldn't be an issue.
  14. Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine When Vox Mundi talks, everyone listens... whether they want to or not. Not sure what I think about this one; something looks slightly "off" but I'm not sure what.
  15. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Post by my cat: ...and that's as random as it gets with her.
  16. Re: Superhuman women less attractive in 6th Edition? Didn't realize I was in the "Champions Home Rules" forum. So sorry.
  17. Re: Superhuman women less attractive in 6th Edition? No. No, absolutely not. No comparision. They're not the same thing. Striking Appearance has an in-game effect. The COM stat did nothing. No equivalence whatsoever.
  18. Re: "Neat" Pictures Another radiation dosage info-graphic. Warning: this one's spoilered because it's freakin' huge! Edited to fix: the image was so big it's taking too long to load. I decided to just post the URL instead. Hope this works better for everyone. http://www.scientificamerican.com/media/inline/blog/Image/RadiationExplainerFINAL%281%29.jpg
  19. Re: The "Nice Happy" Thread Finally got a permanent job. With benefits. And decent pay. Also, I can't be fired.
  20. Re: Free no character point equipment simulating not very powerful powers I actually designed a character like sort of like this on purpose once. He had a VPP for minor magic items, but it was based on a curio shop so cluttered with random junk that it required a perception roll to change slots. Lots of extra time spent to increase the perception roll while muttering I know that cursed thing is here somewhere.... ...but I get the feeling that's NOT what your player is going for, here!
  21. Re: Superhuman women less attractive in 6th Edition? I see no reason anyone couldn't do the exact same thing in 6e: a 5e Comeliness score of 20 can be converted to 6e by taking a 5pt custom perk: Drop-dead gorgeous. Same cost, same effect: five points spent on 'flavor' with no other purpose.
  22. Re: How have you used Time Limit? Working on powers for Blood Magi in D3 Games' Kamaranthin setting. By the official Kamaranthin setting canon, they should have a 'per-phase' Endurance cost, but with their Endurance Reserve requiring a BODY point for each recovery period (there's a reason it's called "blood magic!") I found paying END every phase rather... debilitating, when comparing them to some other spellcasters. So for a lot of the Blood Magi spells, I gave them an END cost per use instead of per phase, with the Time Limit advantage. For most of them it's one turn; a few last for a minute, or five minutes. Most Blood Mage characters will start out as Apprentices with spells in the 15-active point range, and a 15pt End Reserve. Revising their spells with a short-ish time limit makes them a lot easier to play, without being over-powered. Tracking Endurance use is also easier, which will be a big help running Kamaranthin at GenCon. A couple of examples of original powers: Blood Hunt: Discriminatory with Normal Scent; Time Limit (5 Minutes; -1 1/2), requires scent sample (body part, clothing, etc.) (-1/2), OIF (-1/2), Requires A Roll (Skill roll; -1/2), Costs Endurance ( to Activate; -1/4), Unified Power (-1/4), Concentration (1/2 DCV; -1/4), Extra Time (Delayed Phase, Only to Activate, -1/4) plus Tracking with Normal Scent, Time Limit (5 Minutes; +3/4); requires scent sample (body part, clothing, etc.) (-1/2), OIF (-1/2), Requires A Roll (Skill roll; -1/2), Costs Endurance ( to Activate; -1/4), Unified Power (-1/4), Concentration (1/2 DCV; -1/4), Extra Time (Delayed Phase, Only to Activate, -1/4) Bloodspeed: Rapid Attack , Time Limit (1 Turn; +1/4); HTH Only (-1), OIF (-1/2), Requires Bloodcraft Roll (Skill roll; -1/2), Costs Endurance ( to Activate; -1/4), Concentration (1/2 DCV; -1/4), Extra Time (Delayed Phase, Only to Activate, -1/4), Unified Power (-1/4) plus Lightning Reflexes (+8 DEX to act first with Rapid Attack), Time Limit (1 Turn; +1/4); OIF (-1/2), Requires Bloodcraft Roll (Skill roll; -1/2), Concentration (1/2 DCV; -1/4), Extra Time (Delayed Phase, Only to Activate, -1/4), Unified Power (-1/4)
  23. Re: Superhuman women less attractive in 6th Edition? As far as I can tell, 6th edition COM has exactly the same function as 5th edition COM: none at all. The major difference is, in 6th edition COM is FREE and doesn't take up any space on your character sheets. You can have all the 6th edition COM you want, no problem! If you want good looks that actually do something in-game, buy Striking Appearance. The Striking Appearance Talent does what COM should have done, at an appropriate point cost. It's PRE with some limitations. So for some of the 6e characters with apparent discrepancies between their 5e COM scores and 6e Striking Appearance, I'm wondering if they didn't get some extra PRE in the bargain to make up the difference. (I don't know -- haven't got those books yet.)
