  1. There's a flyer for 6e, which was mentioned here. It has some preview pages, most of which we have seen, but one we haven't seen is a character sheet. Said character sheet is nearly unreadable, as the resolution is very poor, but nearly unreadable isn't quite the same as totally unreadable. Here's my attempt to parse Hurr-Ghaas: Str: looks like a 15, cost 5 Dex: looks like it might be an 18, but the stat roll looks like it might be a 14-, and the cost looks like 14, so this may be 24 (cost 14), or 18 (cost 16) or 15 (cost 10). Con: looks identical to str; it's probably 15(5). Int: looks identical to str; it's probably 15(5) Ego: looks like it might be a 10 (cost 0) Pre: looks like it might an 18 (cost 8) OCV: looks like 5 (cost 10) DCV: same as OCV. OECV, DECV: looks like 3 (cost 0) SPD: clearly 4 (based on the phase list), and looks like cost 20. PD: looks like 4 (cost unreadable, but probably 2) ED: looks like 4 (cost 2) Rec?: looks like 4 (cost 2) End?: looks vaguely like 30 (cost 2) BODY: looks like 13 (cost 3) STUN: looks like 30 (cost 5) Powers: I can't find meaningful content. Perks: something costs 3 Talents: something costs 3 Skills: I think I see +1 with ranged weapons (4) I think I see navigation(land) costing 4. Costs otherwise look familiar Complications: I can't find meaningful content. Anyone wanna make their own guesses?
  2. Re: One Last 6E Preview: The Covers! I miss Seeker being beaten up. Guess that's for the Champions book.
  3. Re: Lifetime Subscription Broadly speaking, lifetime subscriptions have a flaw: companies allocate resources based on expected future earnings, not on past earnings. Buying a lifetime subscription helps short term finances (reducing the chance that the game will simply disappear) but does not create any future earnings (except to the degree it may cause subscribers to buy expansion packs, which is not negligible) and thus doesn't give the game as strong an incentive to improve.
  4. Re: DAR Hero cover So, when will you be showing off the 6e cover?
  5. Re: Variable length hand weapon The only real mechanical effect is that the weapon is more easily concealed than a full length weapon, and as far as I know there are no rules about how easy it is to conceal an inactive OAF anyway.
  6. Re: Sixth Edition Showcase #6: Defense Powers I'm not sure how a constant power can do so either; unless there's some form of 'attachable' advantage, force walls are immobile. In any case, there's probably a limitation that turns a barrier continuous.
  7. Re: (Somewhat) realistic "Sensors" A passive sonic or vibration detection system can do a decent job of direction finding. However, it can't really be carried around by a human, because if so it will detect a great big motion source right next to it, swamping any lesser signatures. You'd want to place them on the ground and leave them.
  8. Re: Sixth Edition Showcase #6: Defense Powers Only for unadvantaged defenses. Compare: +8 PD, resistant, hardened (14); +8 ED, resistant, hardened (14); 28 total +8/+8 resistant defense, hardened (30) That's without even abusing roundoffs.
  9. Re: Sixth Edition Showcase #6: Defense Powers And doesn't also apply to PD/ED, which would be weird -- why does it not make sense to be able to provide non-resistant protection to carried objects?
  10. Re: Sixth Edition Showcase #6: Defense Powers Unless it's changed dramatically since 5e, Megascale also uses powers of 10. In the end, powers of 10 are easier to work with than powers of 2; while not really practical for legacy reasons, if redoing the Hero system I'd be in favor of lots of things going over to powers of 10 (or fractions thereof; doubling is very close to a 0.3 power of 10, for example). Incidentally, looking at Barrier: will this also be the Create Object power, or will that be a separate power?
  11. Re: Sixth Edition Showcase #6: Defense Powers Resistant (+1/2): excellent. Resistant Protection (3/2): a why power. It's always either the same cost or more expensive than PD(resistant)+ED(resistant), so unless there's some reason I can't just buy PD and ED as powers, I'd do so. Barrier: excellent. Microscopic: I've had some issues with this advantage because it can be hard to figure out its game effects, but I don't have a big problem with the price. Penetrative: Good (I hated the way 5e did senses), though I'm unclear why 'partially penetrative' is listed, as opposed to just buying Penetrative (Only Through X), which allows varying the cost depending on how common the substance is.
  12. Re: (Somewhat) realistic "Sensors" If you want realistic, a good place to start is what current satellites can do. This looks like a good place to jump off from.
  13. Re: Sixth Edition Showcase #5: Body-Affecting Powers If you look at what I quote, I was actually commenting about running speed.
  14. Re: Telepathic race with no other sensory organs A visual flash causes you to be blind. If you are already blind, it has no effect. Ditto for aural flash.
  15. Re: Sixth Edition Showcase #5: Body-Affecting Powers Generally, yeah. The biggest I've seen used in a game is 'big enough that you can use a player (or his shoes) as a counter', which is around 18-19 levels. I've used bigger as plot devices (earthquake dragons), but stats were quite irrelevant.
  16. Re: Sixth Edition Showcase #5: Body-Affecting Powers That looks remarkably like 3rd edition growth...
  17. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far And created a few new ones; I'm curious to see whether 6e will finally fix adjustment powers.
  18. Re: Making sense of Senses I can describe for you a visual sense that provides a greater level of detail than normal sight, without falling under other descriptions. That would be an enhanced color sense. Some animals have better color sense than humans, and in technical senses spectroscopy is important in astronomy and a variety of other chemical applications, and hyperspectral imaging also has some purposes. In other senses, I have trouble thinking of a more detailed hearing sense, smell/taste could easily extend into chemical analysis, something like terahertz radar might allow certain types of ranged analysis. However, any of these effects could be handled with Detect (Chemical Composition), attached to the appropriate sense group, and doing so would probably be easier for everyone involved.
  19. Re: What effects would you see on a terrestial planet in a binary system? For comparison, Jupiter is about 1/10 the diameter of the sun and is at its closest 4.3 AU away, and can be resolved as an orb with binoculars, but not the naked eye, though with keen eyes you can tell there seems like something weird about it.
  20. Re: Sixth Edition Showcase #4: Deflection, Reflection, And Range An 'abort to other actions' rule might be nice, to be honest. I.e. with a proper contest you could abort to just about any action in response to an attack.
