  1. Re: Those poor humans When I read the title of this thread, I thought it was going to be about the how racial package deals tend make every other species superior to humans. In Hero the PCs can use the points that they didn't spend on the racial package deal, but the rank and file humanity with a cost of zero is pretty much inferior to virtually every fantasy and science fiction race out there. Since that is what this thread is about, I don't know why I'm bringing it up except that it is a pet peeve of mine and I gripe about it when I can.
  2. Re: Gravity Is Only A Side Effect ? This non-theory, non-hypothesis reminds me of a scene from the movie Train Spotting. It the scene where the white boys are talking to the girls about gangsta rappers. Unfortunately, I can't post a clip of the scene here, but I suspect anyone who has seen the movie will remember the scene that I'm talking about.
  3. Re: Lucha Libre Rudo - Little Ramona Opps, my bad. Maybe a moderator will fix it, if I say please. Please.
  4. Re: Lucha Libre Rudo - Little Ramona Background/History: Little Ramona is mini, a midget wrestler as they are sometimes called, but she fights against full size female luchadors. This is in part because few wrestling promotions have female mini leagues, but more because of those that do, all the mini luchadoras have down to the last woman have said they will not fight Ramona. Many of them have gone so far as to threaten to quit lucha libre altogether before they will step in ring against "the Beast" as Little Ramona is often referred. Little Ramona has given multiple contradictory accounts life before lucha libre ranging from tales of growing up penniless on the streets Lima, Peru to a childhood of great wealth and privilege in southern Spain. Only her history after becoming a luchadora can be verified to any extent. Her first known bouts as a luchador took place in a South American lucha libre league against other female minis. They were no match for her and she made sure that they knew by passing up pinning opportunities so as to have more time to hurt and humiliate them. Soon, all the female refused to get in the ring with her. Ramonita asked for a chance to fight either the male minis or full size female luchadors. The minis wisely said no. The fans despised Little Ramona, which is to say they loved her, so the promoter did not want to let her go. He did however want to take her down a peg. So Little Ramona's promoter set up a match between her and a 120 kg luchadora wrestling under the name Dana Montana. In addition to being a large woman, Dana was skilled Luchador with over a decade of experience and with a notable mean streak of her own. The battle was epic! The two combatants went at it for over an hour with both do their best to hurt the other and frequently succeeding. Eventually , Little Ramona simply outlasted the big women who just did have the stamina to go on fighting any longer. Ramona pinned Dana Montana by sitting down on top her opponent who lack the energy to even roll over. That was Ramona Sucia's first win over a full size luchadora but certainly not her last. However it has not all been victories for the tiny wrestler. In her first match with Madre Maria Mascara, Maria not only beat The Beast, she also gave her a sermon about the wages of sin and what she could expect in the afterlife if she did not change her way. This would be the start of one of the fiercest rivalries in all Lucha Libre. Recently Ramona Sucia received one year suspension from the European Wrestling League for defecating on a defeated opponent! Even after a stunt like that Ramona was able to get a spot in Lucha Libre Mexicana after promising to not to do anything involving nudity, feces or bodily fluids other than sweat. Personality/Motivation: Little Ramona is pretty much pure id. When she wants something, she wants it right now. If she dislikes someone, she hates them with a burning passion. If she feels that someone has hurt or insulted her, she will be relentless until she gets her vengeance. That being said, as long as a person stays on her good side they might just view her as a hard partying, free spirit with a nasty temper. Little Ramona does have friends. Quote: "¡Furioso vienes a mi furioso vienes a mi tan fuerta como un toro, tan caliente como un horno, tan sujeto estes a mi como los pelos de mi cono estan a mi! ¡La Calamida!"* * - a curse Powers/Tactics: Little Ramona is freakishly strong for a person as small as herself, particularly in the legs and thighs. She put this strength to good (or in her case bad) use with her signature move the dreaded Lung Crusher Leg Lock. With this move while on her opponents shoulder (she likes her opponents to be prone for this but it's not necessary) she locks her ankles in her opponents opposite armpit and squeezes their chest forcing the air out of their lungs. The point of this is to make it hard for opponents to catch their breath and to tire them out. Once she has an opponent down zero END she will keep periodically applying the move to force them expend STUN if they want to do anything that requires END. Even after her opponent has gone unconscious she may not go for the pin and instead do things to humiliate her opponents. Little Ramona other tactic, which is so reflective to her that she does even think about it, is to go after her opponents injuries. If she injures an opponent or an opponent is unlucky enough to face her with an obvious ore-existing injury (defined as being at less than full body), Ramona will go after the wound mercilessly. If she can't strike the wound itself, she will find ways to put strain on the wound. If her opponent has an injured shoulder she will pull the arm attached to that shoulder to damage the shoulder. For this reason whenever she is facing a wounded opponent, Little Ramona does two extra DC, and wise opponents will attempt to use acting and/or disguise skill to hide their wounds from her. Campaign Use: In addition to being a potential hunter/rival, Little Ramona is perfectly willing to be villainous flunky if the money it right. Her hedonist nature causes her spend her money as fast as she gets and leaves her always in need of more. She has no qualms about working for mad scientist, blond martians or vampires who experiencing problems with pesky luchadors and are willing to meet her price. Despite her many awful traits, Ramonita with uninhibited manners (to put it mildly) and her wicked sense of humor is fun to party with. So if your campaign has no use for a pint size villainess, she could function as a colorful drinking buddy to the PCs. They just have to remember to stay on her good side. She can function in this capacity even in non-Lucha Libre campaigns. Appearance: Little Ramona stands only three and a half tall and while her limbs are a little on the thick side for such a diminutive woman she is otherwise normal in her proportions. She has long black hair, brown no-nonsense eyes and a roman nose. In the rings she wears a shorts, a midriff exposing tee-shirts and wrestling boots. Out of the ring she dresses either as the innocent school girl that people tend to mistake her for due to small size, or she dress like a brazen harlot, never anything in between.

  6. Re: NASA: Patron of Hard Sci-Fi? Getting young people interested in space exploration is necessary if they is to be any actual space exploration. I'm not say that you are bunch of grumpy old men who are bitter because space exploration has largely passed our generation by. Oh, what the heck, yes I am. There is no down side to this announcement except that it is too late for us.
  7. Re: Repercussions of mass-producing comic book technology Just this one. With a light enough power source, all the other technology needed to make jetpacks already exist. They might not be able to nearly pass the Turing Test but your batteries would lead to a revolution in robotics. Powerful, lightweight batteries would allow for more powerful and versatile prosthetic limbs. Powered armor. Electric cars would virtually replace combustion vehicles within a decade. Electric personal airplanes are now available. Your communication device with the the 100 mile sending radius falls under cascade of technology that would reasonably develop based off your super battery. Portable gaming equipment with GPS systems and powered by your super battery turns the whole world into your game. Imagine a group of gamers coming together in Grand Central station to battle a dragon that they can see their headsets but doesn't otherwise exist. Tons of other stuff that comes about as the new super battery driven technology rubs against each produces synergy tech.
  8. Re: NASA: Patron of Hard Sci-Fi? That sounds great. I wonder how long we have to wait before we get some books out of this deal.
  9. Re: "British Only": How much of a Limitation? But we like talking about blonds..
  10. Re: "British Only": How much of a Limitation? There may be an easier way to do it, but you can build it in parts. X number of dice for any British blood at all, + Y more dice if they are at least 1/4 British, +Z more dice if they are actual Brits.
  11. Re: "British Only": How much of a Limitation? Using another power that you had to pay full price for IMHO is not an easy way bypass a limitation. Now you are having to buy two powers at full and nearly full price to do what you could have done with a single power without the limitation. Do you think that a character with flight at regular END cost and Teleportation at 5X END should not get the normal limitation value for for the Increased Endurance Cost because he can just get around it by flying?
  12. Re: "British Only": How much of a Limitation? Why? A nerfed power is a nerfed power. Why should the character get fewer points for the nerfing just because they can still function? The guidelines for Limited Powers talk about how much the the limitation reduces the effectiveness of the power, not the character.
  13. Re: Underbelly: Razor - source material from Australia Good stuff. I had no trouble watching it despite not living in Australia. Not the same level as Boardwalk Empire but lots of good source source material for a 1920 games whether set in Australia or not.
  14. Re: Questions about the Champions 6E core rules book I'm sorry that you were disappointed by your purchase. Will the game store that you bought it from allow you to return it? If this experience has not completely burned you on the system, rather than buy two expensive books you can get the "HERO Systme Basic Rulebook" for $20 or as a $15 PDF file.
  15. Re: Conan: The Current Movie in Progress..... Yes, Ebert is getting crotchety in his old age. Also, he is mentally slipping which is really sad. In several reviews of his that I have read recently, he missed major plot points of the movies and this was reflected in his reviews of them. He blamed characters for making actions without purpose when there were perfectly good in movie justifications for their actions.
  16. Re: Champions Universe Groups In Japan. According to Champions Worldwide Japan has 4 superteams . The only team that it names is the Tokyo Super Squad with members Tō ("Tower", a powered armor guy), Kiko ("Chrysanthemum", a mystic martial artist), Fidobakku (Feedback", sonic energy projector) and Kōdōtai ("Zodiac Man", a shapechanger). These heroes are named but no write-ups are given Champions Worldwide does give write-ups Charm Girl (a flying brick superhero), Shonen No Kufu ("Gadget Boy", gadgeteer superhero), Tetsuronin (powered armor superhero), Kazan ("Volcano", rock/earth controlling supervillain), and Tetsuryu ("Iron Dragon", powered armor wearing supervillain).

  19. Re: Starfish Alien Find out how much an analogous creature weighs (say a giant squid), factor for the greater size of your critter, and use that as your weight. Remember that weight is based on the cube of size. So if your creature is twice the size of the one that you are comparing it to it will weigh 8 times as much. As for how fast they can swim, you might want to base that on the speed of their favorite prey or the creature that hunts them. For example, if they like to hunt a killer whale analog it would help if they could swim 30 mph. The ammonium chloride solution may be lighter than seawater but some parts of their bodies aren't going to be. Consequently they won't just float on top of the water. However the buoyancy of the ammonium chloride solution would prevent them from sinking all the way to the bottom and keep them in the general depth range that they prefer without them have to expend effort to stay there. Their appendage sound like they would give them the necessary dexterity to use a wide of tools and weapons. The real limiting factor would probably be their brains. It is worth noting that social creatures tend to be smarter than loners. So if they were naturally pack hunter they would have a leg (tentacle) up in evolving tool use. Are there spell casters in this campaign that would make it necessary to worry about them having there shape changed? Not particularly. They do sound large and dangerous though. Why? Why do they have three eyes and five mouths? Why do multiple tongues? What is the purpose of the suckers lined with teeth and barbed claws? How do all of these features aid these creatures in their natural habitat? It not important that you tell me the answer to these questions, but it is important that you know. Otherwise, you are not creating an alien, you are just creating some fantasy monster.

    Alien

Re: Alien I would recommend tossing out the term humanoid since so many of its features are non-humanoid; perhaps bipedal would be a better word. Also, why are you referring to it as a "he"? Were the players informed that they were being introduced to a male? I don't know how you were planning on presenting this alien to the players, but unless they are initially encountering it when it is laying on an autopsy table, I would suggest giving the description gradually. First just tell them those things are most noticeable such as maybe the eyes, color, size and arm tentacles. Then are the players have more time to observe the alien add extra details like the chitinous plates, tentacle tongues, the suckers, etc. Each time that the players decide that it can't get more disgusting add a new detail. Don't forget that it will probably have a smell, character sounds and its own body language. Advice aside, your alien sounds extremely alien. Congratulation. I'm sure that your players will find it very disturbing.
  21. Re: Rise of the Planet of the Apes I saw the movie and while I'm not as apes about it as Rex (sorry, couldn't help myself), I did enjoy myself and would recommend it as a matinee. My main problem with it is that IMHO it did a poor job fleshing out the human. Heck twenty minutes after leaving the theater I had to struggle remember the name of the human protagonist. On the positive side, Andy Serkis did a great job playing Ceasar, the special effects and stunts were good, and it is great game fodder. How long post RotPotA were you thinking of setting your game? Balance will be tricky, but if you carefully limit the equipment and skills available to the apes, you might be able to work something half way fair out.
  22. Re: Would a spell of Growth cause your equipment to grow too? I'm going to agree with CC on this. Their armor would grow but it would only provide the same protection that it did before. Their sword would become longer and have more rech, but if it was a 1 1/2 d6 HKA it would remain a 1 1/2 d6 HKA. However, you could link extra damage and/or armor to the spell to give a more powerful giant.
