  1. I'm avoiding Dracula for the time being although I have Lucy Westenra making life miserable for Mina Harker and the Scarlet Order. I have also played with the idea that a repentant Lucy would lead the team and Harker would be the pain in the neck (no pun intended).
  2. I opened a post earlier about a campaign involving a group of so-called "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" who've somehow arrived in the present day and are in charge of their own parahuman teams based on their various fields of expertise. They are Captain Nemo (the seas), Mina Harker (the occult), The Time Traveler (what else?), Robur (the skies), David Innes (the subterranian world), and Professor Cavor (space). What I would like to do at some point is to have the groups (or maybe just the LXG's and their team leaders) confront a master villain from their time period that is also alive and well in the 21st Century. The only one I have come up that could take on most of them in their elements is H. Rider Haggard's Ayesha aka She-Who-Must-be-Obeyed or just "She". The idea being that her immortality is wanning and the "Blue Flame" that is her source needs to be either restored or a new source needs to be found. Since she is in survival mode, so nothing is going to stop her which has the undivided attention of all the LXG's (although Cavor would be a stretch). What other classic steampunk villain from classic sci-fi and adventure literature would be bold enough and adaptible enough to take on our time displaced adventurers in the 21st century?
  3. My Universe consists of three connected but distinctive eras, The Pulp Era (the first arrivals of the so-called "Mystery Men" known as the American League), the Modern Era (centered around the Crusaders, The British Avengers, the Lost Ones, and the "LXG's"), and the 31st Century (centered around the Force of Nine and the Shadowers). All eras are connected to the city of Liberty Metropolis in one way or another.
  4. I have a couple characters who roll above 18 because of 35-40 INT along with the skill rolls attached to them so the extra die allows for the possibility of failure (Hey! even Brainiac 5 gets it wrong once in a while). Plus it gives the lower life forms something to razz them with. Quadruple 6's is critical failure in this case.
  5. We ran a shared universe for 5th ed in which the cap was at 12DC. However, I run a champagn world that takes place 1000 years in the future where the DCs are capped at 15 with high INT characters (the Brainiac 5 types) using 4 dice instead of three for PER rolls.
  6. The Squadron Supreme limited series from 1985-86 is a textbook example because it shows both sides of the issue very well and doesn't end well for both sides.
  7. I have a character named Dauntless who is named after the famed WWII dive bomber. He wears a suit of armour in which his primary attack is to dive towards large targets or groups of agents releasing various explosive or other AOE radius attacks from high altitudes. How would this be built using 5th ed rules with a 60 point limit. I'm leaning towards using 6-8 charges tops with one 5-shot autofire to really make things messy. THANKS
  8. I have a group called the Majestick Twelve that is composed of parahumans and aliens working for the U.S. Air Force in protecting the world (when the Global Defense Initiative is asleep at the wheel) from alien threats. They are based at (where else ?) Area 51. I also have a hero named Card Sharp who runs a casino with a space theme to let the group blow off some steam from time to time. With all that atomic testing back in the day you should have no trouble coming up with mutated humans and animals that would keep your team busy. Perhaps a whole community near one of those sites. There is an annual electronics convention there. You could do an "Oceans 11" -style heist for valuable technology on display there.
  9. Mine are mostly original but I have incorperated other characters from other media. Some examples are one event called "Crossover" as a group of 31st century heroes enter a universe where the Legion of Superheroes is the guardians of the universe. Another group ran into Helen Cutter from "Primeval" as a different set of anomolies were being investigated as a means returning home to the future.
  10. I have used that to explain David Innes's presence in the 21st century since Pellucidar still has some pre-historic aspects of its culture that are just now (with Innes's technical know-how which I have to admit is still late 19th century) uplifted at least the capital city of Sari. Abner Perry, his friend and inventor of the Iron Mole, returned to the surface where he lived out his years there. His descendent, Abigail Perry-Sinclaire, is Innes's main contact on the surface and is the guardian of his daughter, Princess Peridian', when she travels there.
  11. I know, I modified the the story as a spin-off from another oceanic Champions campaign called FORCE AQUARIUS in which two of its members located the "Nautilus" and Nemo but it was an Atlantean tomb with the body of an Atlantean prince that kept them both preserved along with the "Nautilus".
  12. For years I have run games at various cons (mostly Origins) in which a group of parahumans protect the oceans whose commander is none other than Captain Nemo and their ship is the Nautilus itself. I have now began expanding the campaign to include at least five other literary characters who have now found themselves in the 21st century in one way or another and with parahuman teams of thier own. Here is what I have so far.. CAPTAIN NEMO AND THE NAUTILUS NINE A group of underwater commandos based on board the revived "Nautilus" under the command CAPTAIN NEMO. THE TOMORROW MEN A group of "enhanced" agents from various eras help THE TIME TRAVELER prevent the end of Humanity as he has seen it. THE SCARLET ORDER A group of "cursed" agents operating from "The Spire" deep in the Carpathian Mountains as a vanguard against occult threats led by MINA HARKER. THE CLIPPERS OF THE CLOUDS A group of aerial warriors based on board the modified airship "Albatross" defending against Olympian offspring and other skybourne threats under the command of ROBUR THE CONQUEROR. THE INSIDE MEN A combination of "enhanced" teenagers from the surface and natives of the underground world of Pellucidar that guard both realms at the behest of its ruler, DAVID INNES. The sixth group is the one that is causing fits in terms of origin and mission. I'm leaning towards using PROFESSOR CAVOR as the LXG in question and the team is a spacefaring one (although limited to the solar system). So far the characters are leaning towards astronauts on board a space station or spaceflight mission who later discover that the "seeds of life" were planted millions of years ago throughout various locations in the Solar System but only one has germinated (Earth, of course). The characters have now found the "seeds" and have been transformed into beings adapted to the worlds they were meant to bring life to. Some remain human others not so much although its up in the air if that is permanent. The team also dosn't have a name. The big problem I have is how are these people going to meet Cavor and how is he here in the 21st century. He is not someone you want to send into danger leading a team of parahumans who are not that happy that they have turned into something other than human by accident. All the other spacefarer types like John Carter, Gulliver Jones, and Carson Napier are more planet specific and their means of transport are a bit out there. Cavor at least has a means of travel that can be enhanced and modified through is own inventions and of course, he has the formula for "Cavorite" to get them in space in hurry. I'm looking for suggestions and/or alternatives to make this group work. I'm also looking for another acronym for LXG besides League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
  13. Some of my convention characters that seem to fit this thread. Narwahl: Got his powers after getting careless investigating a crashed UFO Kraken: Received his dive suit by his navy to extract said character. Catamount: A Sheriff's Deputy who received an alien armour after stumbling upon a rescue mission of an alien family who crashed on Earth. Red Falcon: A Russian Air Force pilot who volanteered for a FSB experiment. Millennium Girl: A teenager kidnapped by aliens and "left on the shelf" for 1000 years and re-awakend by the same aliens with cryonic powers. Trailblazer: Submitted herself to extensive genetic enhancement to become a sort of "space scout".
  14. It's been awhile since I read "Robur the Conqueror" but I'm not sure if that was the materiel for its construction although it was mentioned in the film "Master of the World" which was the name of the sequel to "Robur the Conqueror" and the movie combined both books. Also, the book "Master of the World" used a different vehicle entirely.
  15. I did come up with a possible deterent option. According to the book, the "Albatross" is largely battery powered. Replacing the batteries with a nuclear drive might make some air forces think twice before shooting it down in or near a populated area but unless they know that for a fact, they will more likely shoot first and ask questions later.
  16. I have a campaign that I run occasionally at Origins called Captain Nemo and the Nautilus Nine. The players are a members of a parahuman underwater commando unit under the command of none other than Captain Nemo who was found in suspended animation along with a dormant "Nautilus" largely intact. With some modern upgrades, the "Nautilus" is still more than a match for most modern submarines and on several occasions Captain Nemo has proven that he is still master of the ocean depths. I would like to run a similar campaign for Nemo's aerial rival Robur along with a flying version of the Nautilus Nine ( tentatively named "The Clippers of the Clouds" or Clippers for short). When Robur is awakened , he finds out that he no longer possesses the secret of powered flight nor is his ship the "Albatross" ( like the "Nautilus", is found largely intact) the doomsday weapon it once was. How do I reintegrate this aeronautical super-genius and his ship into a world where, unlike Captain Nemo, he is no longer the master of his element? I've read both "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" and "Robur the Conqueror" so I'm familiar with both the characters and their ships. So how do I fix it where a giant gyrodine helicopter can operate in modern aerospace without having to rename the "Albatross" the USS "Dead Duck"?
  17. I have an up and coming empire (or menace depending how you deal with them) called The Rohalaan KaiserRealm I use in my 31st century settings. I based it on Germany between its unification and the beginning of World War I and did not want to use a literal German language name for it so I came up with a mash of German and English for the name of its empire that sounded different and unique.
  18. Re: Why Your Heroes Shouldn't Kill Binder shoots the victim in the face and hardens cutting off the oxygen. I,d say that kills the prosecutor's non-lethality argument.
  19. Re: Create a Hero Theme Team! I apologise if I seem greedy on this but it made sense the longer I thought about it. Trent, Trevor, and Treena McKinney are the children of a submarine captain stationed at the U.S. Navy submarine base at Bremerton, Washington across Puget Sound from Seattle. Trent is a engineering student at The University of Washington in his third year. Trevor is training to be a deep diving expert and has been since graduating high school a year ago. And Treena is a sophamore at the local high school. Trent and his insanely rich schoolmate were testing three lightweight but durable "rescue suits" with new tech and abilities that resembled a poor man's powered armour when the kids father's submarine went missing in treacherous waters. Trent wanted to use one of the suits though his collegue objected due to the various bugs still in the suits. Trevor and Treena took the other suits much against Trent's wishes but he could not talk them out of it. They lost their mother some years back and they were not about to lose their father, too. Trent's friend stayed at the lab to supervise and gave them each codenames to to identify themeselves. The McKinney's chose their own. Trent became SEAHAWK, Trevor became MARINER, and Treena became SOUNDER, The kids managed to master the suits and their bugs and rescued their father and the other 134 men of his crew. the Captain asked the armoured trio who were and Trent tried to hide the fact that his rescurers were his own children and therefore avoid getting in trouble for endangering himself and his siblings. He concocted a story that they were a Navy test project called Trident Blue and this was the purpose of the programme. This drew Captain McKinney's attention away from his kids but put it squarely on finding out just what department initiated the "Trident Blue Project" if for anything to thank the people who rescued him and his men. For those out of the American sports loop; Seattle Seahawks (football), Seattle Mariners (baseball), and Seattle Sounders (soccer ( I absolutely, positively WILL NOT say or put F.C. at the end of their name)) I did three because not only do these teams share a nautical naming pattern but they share strikeingly similar color schemes.
  20. Re: Create a Hero Theme Team! The Lion is a mystical brick who draws his strength from the strength and courage of the people of England. Next Team: The Micro 7 This group is an independent super security force which a has members from all backgrounds and worlds and bringing a wide range of skills, powers, and talents to bear on any job given them. The one thing they all have in common is that they are able to reduce their sizes anywhere from six inches tall to microscopic and beyond which gives them a huge advantage to infiltrate the most impregnable facilities around and following just about anyone and anything virtually undetected. Members:7 I came up with this idea recently after looking over a good number of my Champions characters and I noticed I had good sized number of "shrinkies" (to borrow a term from Dr. Shrinker) with a wide variety of powers.
  21. Re: New Campaign Idea: "X-Men: First Class" As The Only Canon Funny this thread should appear because I have been working on several events that take place sometime after the movie for a local con here in Ohio. I'm limiting myself to the first volume between 1963 to 1975 in terms of what characters I'm using (both heroes and villians) but not exclusively if it runs the game better. It is 1964, a new President is in office, and the Cold War now has a new and unpredictable element, the existance of Mutants all over the world. CIA Agent Moira MacTaggert is the only person in the government with any experience with Mutants but is reluctant to work with them since the "Cuban Incident". She realises that Erik Lenscherr and his Brotherhood must be stopped but she does not trust her superiors. She does have one ace up her sleeve, Professor X and his X-Men. Meanwhile,Professor Charles Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters is up and running. Teaching newly discovered Mutants how to be responsible with their abilities while looking to shore up his team to fight Magneto and his Brotherhood. However, with his new Cerebro still under construction, Xavier's recruitment of new X-Men has been a hit-or-miss affair at best and he has only been able to add three more Mutants to the roster. Joining Dr. Hank McCoy(Beast), Alex Summers(Havok),and Sean Cassidy(Banshee) are Pietro Maximoff and his twin sister Wanda, a slow-witted speedster named Quicksilver and an unstable probability manipulator named Scarlet Witch respectively and both have had an earlier run-in with Magneto, and Shiro Yashita, a loose cannon with nuclear powers and a rival to Havok calling himself Sunfire. Agent MacTaggert covertly sends Xavier anything that might lead him to Lenscherr or other possble Mutant threats but he realises they are on their own. Events in the works: 1) MASTERMIND. A group of suspected Irish militants waging a terror campaign in London have been shown to exhibit superhuman abilities against London's security forces. Powers resembling those of Magneto and his Brotherhood. Xavier is not convinced it is Erik and sends the X-Men to investigate. Complicting matters is an ambitious MP named Jason Wyngarde who is exploiting the situation for his own ends. 2) THE HONEY TRAP. A high ranking Russian official defects to the West with a wild story of a "Soviet Super Soldier" programme. A group of Mutants similar to Xavier's X-Men but under the power of the KGB. Agent MacTaggert believes her and alerts the X-Men. But is her story real or is she bait to capture the X-Men? Let me know what you think.
  22. I'm curious if there is intrest either at Origins or GenCon (or any of the local Cons here in NE Ohio) in participating in Hero events based on the films "The Dirty Dozen" and "Kelly's Heros". Here is what i have been toying with for awhile. THE DIRTY DOZEN: Money in the Bank. Major John Reisman is once again in trouble and General Worden has a way out for him. Train twelve general prisoners within a few weeks time. His mission; intrecept a German convoy that is carring the printing plates for the country's currency and steal them before it reaches an impregnable Alpine castle. The PC's are, of course, the prisoners although I haven't ruled Major Reisman out as a PC. KELLY'S HEROS: Diamonds in the Rough. Lt. Kelly and his merry band of goldbugs are heading towards the Swiss border when the French Resistance comandeers their gold in exchange for knocking off an SS prison. What is inside might be worth freeing a few prisoners; 20 million dollars in uncut diamonds. PC's would so far include Kelly, Big Joe ,Little Joe, Crapgame, Cowboy, Willard, and some resistance members. Oddball is an NPC (He is my favourite character and I claim GM's privilage). Let me know what you think.
  23. Re: Where is your campaign based? The Crusaders and The Lost Ones (GenCon) operate in Liberty Metropolis, a thinly disguiesed version Philadelphia. The Pacific Crusaders is the same with Seattle (Emerald City). They do operate sporadically in Vancouver and I just use the city as is. As a matter of fact, any city outside the U.S. is used as is. Only two elements from the CU are in use, U.N.T.I.L. because it is a shared universe with other GM's, and Atlantis from "Hidden Lands" but with most of the magical elements replaced with super science and the Atlantean characteristics largely intact. The Sapphire Squad (Origins (on hiatis)) is based in Novosibiersk, Russia when not on their Lunar HQ. The British Avengers (Origins) is based in London (of course!) The Force of Nine (GenCon) is based in Liberty Metropolis of the 31st Century
  24. Re: Your "2011" Pet Gaming Projects I have found some new gamers and we are putting togather the PACIFIC CRUSADERS, a west coast version of my CRUSADERS demo campaign based in Emerald City (Seattle). CAPTAIN NEMO AND THE NAUTILUS NINE will make three stops at Origins this year as will the BRITISH AVENGERS for at least one event. SCREEN MACHINES will make at least two appearences. This new group consists of adventurers in high tech vehicles from the 1980's. These will include Knight Rider, the Blue Thunder unit, Street Hawk, and a heavily re-designed Thunder in Paradise. THE VAN AMSTEL CHRONICLES will make at least four appearences at GenCon this year. The FORCE OF NINE and the SHADOWERS have one each while the LOST ONES will have two.
  25. Re: Past and Future collide For the LOST ONES, this is their greatest wish and at the same time could be their worst nightmare. The anamolies occuring might open a route home to the 31st century if they are close enough to it. On the other hand, this might be a very cruel joke by the Time Bandits and their powerful leader the Clock. But the Clock has not demonstrated this much power before. They must investigate to find out one or another that this is indeed the way home. If not, try and stop it and make things right again, even if it means being stranded again in the 21st century.
