  1. Quick feedback, I was thinking about the Shadowline Saga books from Epic/ Marvel recently. Dr. Zero, Powerline, and St. George. How do you think these would fit into a Blood story arc?
  2. I guess if you want to go grittier, DC is the way to go they even expanded the hit chart, to include that ever pesky eye shot. When you absolutly want to make that bad guy feel even worse. I really wanna make Grond even cranckier, hey GM I poke him in the eye with my katana.
  3. I was rather peeved by my gm and his decision to not allow me to 'pull my punch'
  4. Case in point, I was playing an archer in a DC game I had a blunt arrow 3d6 and I called a head shot to knock the guy out, even told my gm I wanted to jst knock him out, he applied the dmg from the arrow and the location, and I turned the guy into a vegatable. Not my intention, cinematic vs realism. I would say if you want to use hit locations dial down the dmg for cinematics
  5. My group always went with the NCM of 20, anything over 20 was superhuman. yes the points double after 20 but we understood that was the Superhuman element. anybody with the time, effort, and willpower can be an Olympic level athlete, but not everyone has access to Dr. Erskine's SSS. So while Bruce Wayne might have the drive and money to be a world class everything he isn't Steve Rogers when it comes to stats, the serum amplified everything.
  6. Your right the more i think about it, I think my original GM used the comic book stuff, I always thought they were the Champions and when the comic stuff hit they changed the name, but sooo much stuff sooo long ago lol. I thought they were stated in the Champions 1-3 ed Books, but it has been quite a while....i'm old. lol Thanx for the correction.
  7. I guess it depends at what level your playing at if your agent level, I think no matter the rule set dive for cover but as you scale up, your threats scale with. I still think cinematics is a tool not necessarily a product or by-product of the Rules, Just a setting treatment that the GM is striving for. ( I hope this makes sense, I'm medicated and fighting a cold, bear with me guys)
  8. Like you my go-to system is Hero, my other love is the Interlock system, Cyberpunk 2020 in particular, which can be a lethal system. Cinematic is good, I always put Story before Mechanics no matter the Rule set. I like how it has been said in many Books, The Golden Rule- Have fun. I have been in games where the GM scripts a character death, and there is Nothing you can do about it, then the other extreme is a character never dies no matter what. I don't head hunt. Now if i set something up and it isn't meant to be a fight but more of a cerebral exercise and they still want to fight Grond well then Grond Smash, or poke Menton and Menton turns your brain into Tapioca pudding. I would say this Go with your story, never be afraid of a character death, hell it could turn into a side arc. lol it's the Comics who stays dead. Just make the death mean something, or even better if you do wanna script it, let the player in on it and watch the other players jaws drop when it goes down. The participating Player has to keep it on the down low but it can make for powerful storytelling. Cinematics start and end with you, some systems make it easier than others but once you know a system you can work it in.
  9. I have a copy, and I wouldnt sell, I love the way Aaron wrote all of his suppliments especially for Champs. I guess i was an imperessionable sidekick all those years ago. Blue Books, Brownie Points. Strikeforce and his other works IMHO helped shape Champions. I find it interesting that the Powers That Be have chosen to leave so much behind, either through the dislike of a character or the departure of a writer/ artist. a 30 year old game has History. I understand the legal aspect of it. However I think the attempt should be made to update a classic everynow and again. With Aaron's estate i understand, but there may be other that can be contacted, Lol its called re-negotiation. I'm sure I'm over simplifying things. In the end i'm just a fan like everyone else here.
  10. Hell I would love to see versions of the original Champions, Flare, Icestar, Marksman, Goliath, & Rose. I'm not sure why but i dig the original line up. I really think they have been the better lineup closely followed by 4th. These are the Champions I first encountered.
  11. How about the Seven Horsemen, I forgot about them until I started reading Protect and Serve. It was a product my crew never really used. Thanks to you Mr Taylor and the others you have dusted off old treasures I caught up with the other GM and we've started cobbling our old game together from memory, the funny thing was we were avid Blue bookers, but after 20 years of moving and what-nots the BB's didn't survive....
  12. Also things like... His record label and any endorsements he may have, may not appreciate his other job of Supervillian.
  13. V&V is a little out of my era, but I looked at Stormlord and there is a 'family' resemblance, lol. I'm really enjoying the Zodiac updates as well as the CotN. Very nice work.
  14. Did you look at Korg from Monsters and Mutations? a little trimming here and there and he would work not as bulky as Thing
  15. I always took a Hex as the ground and not what occupies it. I want to fire a EB and target the Hex but not necessarily the individual in it. DCV 3. to simulate dropping a grenade at the targets feet (or similar effect) or to blow a hole in the floor to drop a character through. you're not attacking the individual but the environment.
  16. Personally I love the Zodiac, they were a mainstay in my old Champs game as well as Scorpio becoming a crime lord in my DC game. I would like to see some updates from Kingdom of Champions
  17. I have a quick question in which book was RAVEN updated in I;m pretty sure it was one of the later 4th ed. books but I can't recall which one?
  18. I always like DNPC's, good background stuff and filler. Unless it's a major story arc I myself go 8-, but if I focus on a particular character then I bump his disads up one (8- ->11-, 11- -> 14-). Watched's, Hunted's, DNPC's. If I feel particularly mischievous I'll bump up his unluck 1d6. Then when his Arc is over I'll back them down to where they belong or even drop them down one for the following Arc. Of course I do this all behind screen. My Players know about it but they don't know when I'll do it.
  19. Well I think if you look at characters like say the aforementioned Firefly, they are rather focused on their skill sets. the Leader, the Pilot, the Mechanic, the Warrior, the Grenade guy (heavy ordinance), the Doctor. This helps with keeping the team complementary to each other. I also think that the 70 + 30 is a good feel. Any more in the Disads, and I agree with Joe it would be rough on the characters.
  20. Well I do believe that the most recent write ups for the whole 4th edition team was in Champions Universe. Beyond that Solitare had one in Ultimate Mage and Seeker was in Watchers of the Dragon
  21. Ah, I see. Very good. Thanx for the info always good to know.
  22. If I'm not mistaken there are no 4th ed stuff currently avaliable in the store. If some one had the most recent stats for Solitare, Seeker, Obsidian, and Quantom couldn't they be posted here? (Just a curious question, not a challenge)
  23. Awesome, thanx for that. LOl just happens to be one of the 4th ed books that I've lost over the years. I'd like to update them and use that version for an upcoming campaign I'm getting ready to run.
  24. Does anyone here remember the 4th edition book that updated the Champions team? I wanna say it was either Champions Universe or Champions in 3-D...
