  1. Re: How to Read the Firearms Table Gewing: Using a .38 in a .357 gun will also produce a lower recoil and would be more accurate for "non-gun nut". I am more accurate with a .38 rounds in my S&W .357.
  2. Re: How to Read the Firearms Table In some states, IL where I live they are BANNED, you can not even manafacture them for use in areas where they are legal. Federally they are not banned. I do not remember, if in Hudson City silencers are illegal or not??? Very right on your points! I own a SW 686 PP a seven round .357. A dream to operate and VERY accurate, concealment would be almost impossible. But its seven rounds compares favorably to 8 round automatic weapons. The punch of a heavier .357 round is a man stopper. The one advange that I like about a revolver is that has less moving parts and is less likely to malfunction.
  3. Re: Land of the Lost No wonder the writting was so good. Great stories, and good adventure. The "Land" had plenty of mysteries, which made it fun. Anyone going to start writting it up???
  4. Re: Teen Champions to critique Chemistry 11- for no points??? Why? Maybe at 8- if you want to say he is a good high school chemistry student. Otherwise this looks like a good concept.
  5. Re: So why do you play Hero? I like Hero System for its flexability. It can do fantasy, sci-fi, pulp, dark, superheroes. I just played GRUPS Supers at a convention. GRUPS is very much like Champions, but Champions is IMO more "done" or "crunicher". I like that a small book like Sidekick can be used by a begginner or a player. A player does not have to know a lot about mechanics, it can be taught quickly. I am a Legion of Heroes member and I have taught many to play.
  6. Re: a Villian game I have thought about this and maybe a short duration game would work, maybe only a dozen sessions or so. Just my 2 cents.
  7. Re: Guns vs. Armor I would second a notion to wait and see. Much armor works great in controlled tests but in the field its performance is less. The .45ACP (I routinely use a Kimber .45 and Thompson 1927A1 submachine gun [semi-auto]) is STILL a great round to stop a person. The 230 grain FMJ round at about 800 feet per second will stop most people cold. A person with armor will still be "stunned" by the impact of the heavy round even if it does not penetrate the armor. A article my wife read about the .45ACP pointed out most body armor does NOT cover the leg areas. A .45ACP hitting the femur would likely shatter the bone, and the target will go down! If the person is not in shock he for sure can not run and would have a hard time even crawling. Body armor is not perfect. The Hero hit location chart will help in factoring this. Make sure armor has the limitation that it only covers certian hit locations and this should simulate this. Just my two cents.
  8. Re: GenCon Indy? I can only speak for my games, they will have pre-generated characters. Most (but not all) games use pre-generated characters. Brush up on your Hero knowledge and register for GenCon, see you there.
  9. Re: Best way to promote Hero and attract new players DOJ needs to have a system to reward people who demo at stores, or 'cons. Free PDF downloads would be a great start. This would promote the game and get more people to play and would lead to more sales.
  10. Re: Tetrodotoxin Puffer Fish kills about 50 or so people each year in Japan, from improperly prepared fish. In Japan a license is required for a person to be legally allowed to prepare it. Tetrodotoxin is a VERY strong neuro-posion. It is commonly used in neuroscience labs and toxicology labs. My formal training is in toxicology, and Tetrodotoxin is a very interesting poison. A neuroscience professor had puffer fish in Japan (VERY expensive dinner $300 in the 1970's) and described it as "out of body, eurphoic experience". Again this was a very low dose of the poison. It has an interesting biochemical action on neurons and the receptors on them.
  11. Re: Millenium City... Salt Mines? Salt domes like that are common in the upper midwest (in northern Ohio a salt mine is so large it goes under Lake Erie, and is the source for most road salt for the Chicago area). A battle like that in Champions with Dr. Destroyer would have NOT effected the mines that much or at all. They are deep undergound and in a stable rock formation. If the rock formation was NOT stable long ago water would have dissolved the salt way, and this has not happened. Ideas for game, what about a new tunnel is built that revels a tunnel complex. Who built it? It must be old for the salt has deposited millions of years earlier... Are these tunnels for aliens, underworld dewellers, or something completely different????
  12. Re: GenCon Indy? Rowport: I think you will like the DC:TAS game or try my Pulp Heroes of 1938 game on Sunday for that Pulpy flavor.... I do not run battle of the superfriends game that is another GM., sorry.
  13. Re: Fox1's Hero Debate I am on both sides of do "guns suck in Hero" debate. I disagree with Steve Long about some weapons. Some are too wimpy and his comments on certain weapons I just plain disagree with. To Steve, I still love you. I also agree with the idea that Hero is a tool kit and is well balanced. Guns are well balanced especially in superhero games. Being a tool kit allows you to change guns if you wish. Overall, I like how Hero deals with guns.
  14. Re: Some new minis (WotW: Champs and others) Great work, and great photography.
  15. Re: GenCon Indy? As one of the people running events at Indy Gen Con. Dark Champions, Dark Champions: The Animated Series events are scheduled. I will be running a DC:TAS adventure myself, plus a Pulp event. We will be better able to publish a list of events after 4/11, the deadline for submission.
  16. Re: Pulp Film Recommendations X-Files TV series, on episode from season six it was first aired on November 22, 1998 Triangle: In the Bermuda Triangle, Mulder is rescued by a long-lost luxury liner, on which it's 1939. Familiar faces abound as passengers and crew suspect he's with the Nazis who've just boarded the vessel. Partially filmed on the Queen Mary it has a pulp element for the 1939 part of the show. Worth a watch. It is also funny to see Mulder not understand at the beggining that he has traveled back in time.
  17. Re: Idea - Character Creation Contest
  18. Re: Idea - Character Creation Contest I would contribute a character of two. Steve Long what do you think??
  19. Re: Pulp Film Recommendations Gee, I should have posted above, but I thought it was too obivious for everyone, CSgeekHero great job.

Could carry up to 220 lbs of bombs A biplane with wings of unequal span resulting from development of the CR-30, using the same fabric covered tubular metal structure - aluminum for the wings, steel and aluminum for the fuselage. W-type Warren bracing was used between the wings. The CR-32 was of smaller dimensions and had improved maneuverability and performance. The spatted, wide track, fixed undercarriage had hydraulic shock absorbers and pneumatic brakes. Like its predecessor, it was designed by Celestino Rosatelli, and the prototype, (M.M. 201), first flew on 4/28/33. Series production began a year later. It was an immediate success, and a large export order book followed. The engine was an in-line V-12 Fiat A30 R.A. bis developing 600 H.P. at take off. Armament was initially two Breda-Safat 7.7 mm. machine guns. It was produced in four very similar versions: the CR-32 and CR-32 quater with two machine guns, and the CR-32 bis, with four. The CR-32 formed the backbone of the Aviazione Legionaria and around 400 were operating in the skies over Spain from 8/36, equipping Nationalist fighter units as well as five Italian groups. The CR-32 was faster in level flight and in a dive than the Chato (I-15), and compared with the Mosca (I-16) it was more maneuverable and more heavily armed. By employing superior tactics with this aircraft the Spainist Nationalist pilots out flew the fighters on the Republican side. Italian pilots scored 300 victories, themselves losing 132 aircraft - of which 73 in combat. After the war Hispano Aviación built 100 CR-32s under the designation HA-132 L. Thirty one of these were converted into two-seaters. The final examples remained in service until 1957. It performed very well in Spain, but this had the drawback that Italy neglected the development of modern fighters. It first flew in 1933, with some 1,309 built, including licensed production in Spain. In 1940, some 294 were still in front line service primarily in North Africa, however, the British in their Gloster Gladiators easily defeated large numbers of the Fiat C.R. 32. It had been quickly eclipsed. Variants:: CR.32: Prototype and initial production model. Armed with 2 12.7mm machine guns. Pilots loved its combination of structural strength and great agility. Delivered to Italian air force between 3/34 and 2/36. CR.32bis:: Close-support fighter version. Increased armament to 2 7.7mm and 2 12.7mm machine guns and provision for 220 lbs of bombs. Used in Spanish Civil War and then turned over to Spain. CR.32ter:: Revised CR.32bis with an improved engine, gunsight and upgraded instrumentation and strengthened and revised undercarriage. Delivered between 7/37 and 12/37. All used in Spain. CR.32quater:: Revised CR.32ter with reduced weight and radio added. Definitive model with 337 produced for the Italian air force. Maximum speed of 221 mph at 9,845 ft. HA-132L:: Spanish version, including 40 converted to trainer. Served until 1953. 21. Re: Pulp Film Recommendations "Across the Pacific" 1942 starring Bogart and Mary Astor. Funny in spots, but with good action. Technically a WWII film, but it captures in my opinion the "pulp" era. A great pre-WWII spy story. Check out: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0034428/
  22. Re: PULP HERO -- What Do *You* Want To See? I second this, and add Italian soldier, British soldier from the 1930's also. Steve Long: I already have a write up of the Italian solider/officer if you are interested?
  23. Re: Pulp Reading A favorite pulp "area" for me is Abyssinia (Ethiopia) 1930-1940. You can have facistists (both kinds Italian and German), adventurers, spies, gun runners, and even treasure hunters. A great book is from Osprey Publishing; Men-at-Arms Series The Italian Invasion of Abyssinia 1935-36 by David Nicolle and illustrated by Rafaele Ruggeri. A great book (short 48 pages) with many photos and beautiful illustrations.
  24. Re: Welcome To The New PULP HERO Forum! Thank you Steve!!! Love-you-man....
  25. Re: Pulp Heroes I based her loosely on the female lead from the movie "Across the Pacific", a great WWII movie with Bogart playing a US spy. Funny, with some good action spy yarn.
