  2. Re: Simple power I need help with: "Low Pitch Thrum" Energy blast with double knock back. If you want it to actually do stun.
  3. Re: Things we'd like to see in the Pulp Resource Guide More handguns, S&W1917 and others. Plus .380ACP weapons common to period. Also rules for .25 cal "pocket guns". More cars/trucks. Especially European models.
  4. Re: Best bit That is my favorite. You can make what you want to play.
  5. Re: The Fox and Vixen Another idea for the two is a married couple, rich married couple. They steal for the thrill of it. I would with this background actually have them return the stolen items later. Just an idea.
  6. Re: Modern High-Tech Bows and Crossbows? The first military spec for the .45 ACP was 230grain (7000grains/lb) ball (or rounded) bullet at 930ft/sec. 1225ft/sec is what I would call .45ACP+ ammo. Most ammo that I purchase for my Thompson or my wife's Kimber 1911 is around 1000ft/sec. We make our own ammo and prefer under 800ft/sec for target practice.
  7. Re: Where's Amelia Earhart? Agreed.
  8. Re: Where's Amelia Earhart? Possible, it is possible but very unlikely she shot down by the Japanese, or possible she crashed on land. The world will not know until PROOF of her remains or the Lockheed Electra can be located. As to her being a spy for the USA here is my two cents.... Among her personal papers held in the Purdue library are some interesting things. Her aircraft was owned by the Purdue Research Foundation. It carried much scientific equipment. Maybe just maybe the goverment was intereseted in a covert recon of some Japanese islands in the South Pacific. Great game ideas would be: Be involved in the hunt for her after she goes missing. Great aviation adventure, maybe a mystery also. Maybe meet Earhart during her final around the world flight. Maybe help her stay on schedule.
  9. Re: Where's Amelia Earhart? I still disagree with you, We should just agree to disagree. I am glad we agree on that! The gaming aspect is why we are all here. "Different conclusion", that is one way to put it. Other books have different conculsions. Not a Nazi, okay, I agree he did not have a offical membership card... Need I say more you said it for me. Don't put words in my mouth: I DID not imply he was sleeping with enemy, you said it. Roosevelt questioned his loyality to USA. I am glad we agree. What happened after the war was not the point of my post. At the time of WW2 he was not trusted by Roosevelt. Agreed and fact. Minor correction: his work was on fuel consumption in the Lockheed P-38 fighter was partly responable for Yamamoto's death. He taught the Army Air Corps how to conserve fuel by changing engine settings. Lindbergh was a genius in how to reduce fuel consumption for long range flying. Agreed.
  10. Re: Where's Amelia Earhart? I must STRONGLY disagree with you. As a "STAR" meaning popularity Charles was far more popular. Agreed. As for aviation she did many firsts (a huge list), among them first woman to fly the Atlantic solo. She set speed records and many other firsts. She was a assistant professor at Purdue University and founded the University's airport. She helped to popularise aviation and made it a profession for women. A significant accomplishment in an era of "women should stay home and not do man's work". As a person IMO she is more interesting for the players to interact with. She was a heroine in a male dominated era, and from written accounts about her she was interesting to interact with. Many accounts about Charles talk about how introverted he was. She also may have been a spy for the USA (her last mission may or may not have been a spying mission for US), but that is for another post. Charles on the other hand.. read the recent biography of him, I did. It details how much of a Nazi he was. He almost moved to Germany in the 1930's. Recent DNA test results showed he had out of wedlock children by a German woman. FDR did not trust him and that is big reason he did not get a formal Army Air Corps command position in WW2. This is not to say he was not a great aviator, but some of his political views (anti-Jew, pro-Nazi) should not be forgotten.
  11. Re: "Shallow" Purchases My current character is a robot from another planet who learned about humans and earth from TV... yes, broadcast TV from the 50's to now. It reached earth with many misconceptions. Then it discovered CABLE TV!!! Spongebob Square Pants is now its favorite character. Another player character wants to start a school for young supers, to help fund it the robot wrote a book on Spongebob (bought as a reputation: cost 1 point). Then I will purchase wealth to actually fund the school (money from the book's sales).
  12. Re: Are Jacks of all Trade Effective PCs? At Gen-Con Indy I played in the New Circle game. I played a homage to Batman, who had a VPP that was called "I just happen to have one of those". It allowed me at the CRITICAL time to save the group's bacon. Normally the character had to stay on the sidelines. So YES, a JOAT is great fun, especially if you are not a "combat monkey", or you like to be the answer person.
  13. Re: New JLU Tonight Great episode, you will like the two shows.
  14. Re: Early Tommy Guns The drum is called "C" drum or 100 drum was not popular (and few were made) for the reasons you mention. The 50 round drum or "L" drum was more popular. We own a "L" drum and it is works, but the stick magazine is far easier to use, but only 30 rounds. Thanks for the post on the Owen, a great story from 'Down Under about their sub-machine gun. Nine millimeter, more accurate on full automatic but not the stopping power of the .45ACP.
  15. Re: Meet the Protectors Will you be adding more info on the Protectors?
  16. Re: Pulp style fashion Rep to you, cool idea.
  17. Re: Comments on sexism and racism at the outset of Pulp Hero I GM'ed my "Pulp Heroes of 1938" at Indy GenCon just a few weeks ago. I had a VERY interesting group of players, white males, a black woman, and a German national. My game was very much based on real history of the Italian occupation of Ethiopia. I made sure that the players understood that in that era thinking was different (working women were unusual, Africans were considered not equal to Europeans). The players however were NOT required to act in any way, it just provided "flavor" to the game. Of course, no one used any racially insulting comments or words. I believe that pointing out how people thought in Pulp Era not only adds to the "flavoring" but teaches how ideas about race relations and relations between the sexes have changed in the last 70 years. The entire group of players seemed to have a great time.
  18. Re: Operating cost of a Lear Jet $1,500 an hour (total costs), ouch! But wait a minute, if you have to ask the price you can not afford it! Great web page for gauging the cost of being a playboy..
  19. Re: Early Tommy Guns Far better page, it is also the "offical" page of the tommygun. http://www.tommygun.com/ Being a Thompson SubMachine gun owner (the semi-automatic reproduction made by Kahr), I really love the weapon. It is very accurate, and while heavy, can be operated by almost everyone. The 30 round stick magazine is a good choice for combat (rarely jams and easily replaced), the 50-round drum is just plain fun. The weapon fires the .45ACP pistol round, the same used in the Colt 1911 .45 automatic pistol. The.45ACP round is an excellent man-stopper and was developed for military use. Steve Long believes the weapon to be cranky and that it gets dirty easily. This is not quite true. (I love Steve Long but we disagree about this). The weapon was expensive ($230 in the 1927, about $450 in 1942) and was the reason only 2 million made in WW2. It servered in Korea and some were appearently used early on in Vietnam.
  20. Re: Your "Character Sheet Resources" Not a character sheet, but useful for GM's: BartCRecordHTML.zip - Combat export record sheet that prints DEX, SPD, REC, END, BODY, STUN, CON, phases, OCV/DCV, PD, ED, ECV, and notes (combat levels). Prints characters in a format that makes it easy to see what character(s) are up in that phase, so GM's can make combat go faster. Designed for Hero Designer version 2 or greater. Print the output in your browser set to landscape with fit to page setting on. Designed by Barton. See http://www.herogames.com/FreeStuff/HeroDesignerV2/ export templates/BartCRecordHTML.zip
  21. Re: The Network: Campaign Setting Idea Will this be FTF? or on-line? If you near Chicago I might be interested. If on-line I am very interested.
