This loss is more tragic. Orville's girl security chief was infinitely cuter than TNG's.

The "Western" was a fairly limited genre, one steeped in a time period that had less and less cultural relevance with every passing year. As a pop culture phenomenon it had a built-in expiration date just by virtue of being "historical" in nature. The superhero genre, being sci-fi by nature, can continue to have cultural relevance potentially forever, without ever having to resort to nostalgia for its appeal.

So the Star Trek parody loses their girl security chief early in the series?

    Huh.

This is true of most books adapted to film as well. The movies almost never have the same impact as the books, and you typically find fans of the original source material pointing out how much better it is than the movie version. Nature of the beast, really.

What makes the MCU different, though, is that whereas most film adaptations only get one, sometimes two or three, movies to tell a book's epic story, Marvel has spent a decade and 20+ movies telling the various stories that are all culminating in Avengers 4, bringing three "phases" of films and the Infinity War storyline to a dramatic close. This is wholly unprecedented in the history of cinema. I don't think we can reasonably expect more from a movie studio.

Creating characters with the Hero System was never "black and white". 6e is not special in this regard. The only difference is that the 6e build culture is obsessed with minutiae to a degree not seen prior to 5e.

4th edition Dark Champions and its attendant supplements were indisputably intended for street-level superheroes. It nonetheless included a large amount of useful information about real world law enforcement, organized crime, and firearms as those are major elements in such a game. As a result, it could easily be used for non-superheroic modern action games. 5th edition Dark Champions was produced with the active decision to expand the scope to include all manner of modern action stories. Both books are very well done, but I prefer the 4th edition version. I would prefer a strongly thematic Dark Champions with CU tie-ins and a completely separate Action Hero.

Okay, well, the way I look at it, Black Lightning isn't in the Arrow-multi-verse until we get a crossover. Until then it is just potential, but not actual.

Not me. But then, I tend to look for the simplest set of powers and mechanics that capture the essence of the concept, rather than try and capture every single little nuance with an unwieldy collection of Advantages, Limitations, Triggers, and so on. It's up to you how much complexity you want to endure for your character concept. 6e character build suggestions around here have a real Kitchen Sink problem, IMO, but it is quite possible to ignore all that and take a more 4e (i.e., simplified/abstracted) approach if you are so inclined.

Agents of SHIELD has been considerably better than most of the superhero shows on the CW, which while not saying much maybe, is still something. I agree that it was a disappointment in its core concept, which is to say, I would have preferred it to look and feel more like an amped up Mission Impossible with an updated take on the classic SHIELD field uniforms and gear. But alas, that's just not the MCU's style. Only Daisy Johnson--once she became Quake--spent a lot of time in such an outfit, and she was the only member of the team who looked even remotely lore-appropriate, in my view.

There's more than one transformation shown in the trailer, so I'm guessing that he can turn back. Of course, he did appear to be at a carnival, so maybe he had to find a Zoltar machine.

I love both Big and Elf. They are two of my favorite movies. But I'm not going to go see any superhero movie that cops their tone and central conceit, that's all. It's simply not what I look for when it comes to superhero action movies.

And you know, I think about how the MCU made superheroes into something adults could get into, by presenting characters and situations that were mature and not played for juvenile laughs (Spider-Man notwithstanding). I can't help but think that this Shazam movie is taking a huge step back in that department, reintroducing the idea that superheroes are "just for kids" back into the pop culture consciousness. I do believe their heart is in the right place, but I also think the direction they're going in with the character is a dubious one.

Marvel's Agents of SHIELD returns for a 13 episode Six Season next year.  Apparently Inhumans was so bad not only was it cancelled but it book nine episodes of Agents of SHIELD with it.

I think it's a pretty clear case of them wanting the Jason Todd character for his personality, but wanting the Dick Grayson name for its recognition factor and canonicity. So we get a disgraceful melding of the two for this show.

Don't get too excited about Beast Boy. The budget for this show is too low to have Beast Boy shown transforming into animals every episode; they will probably cut to the transformed animal (painted green in post, of course) rather than showing the transformation.

This Raven looks too doe-eyed and generally clueless to really carry off the Raven vibe, IMO.

If you pause the trailer on the frame where Dove face-swipes a thug, you can see just how terrible the CG (in this case, used to add a blood spurt to the thug's face) for this show is.

Everything about this show, including the heavily desaturated, plate armor Robin outfit that everyone is so enamored of, looks incredibly lame.
