I don't really see any similarities between Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, aside from super strength. Each of their shows were completely different from each other. Kilgrave was nothing like Cottonmouth or Diamondback. The noir detective genre is nothing like the Harlem Renaissance blacksploitation genre. Jessica is a hard-drinking hot mess who cares for only two people in the world. Luke Cage is a man of honor and hero to his community. They couldn't be more different.

Terminator 2 strikes me as a good example of a movie that was a successful mixture of old and new. It kept to the same essential plot hook as the original (Terminator comes from the future and hunts down our heroes), but it added enough new elements to make it a thrilling new experience.

Which about coincides with my enjoyment levels for those shows. (Except for Legends which I gave up on after last season.) I still enjoy Supergirl, mainly because it's just about the only superhero show on TV that's actually fun.
 
Right there with you. It's bits like that that make it hard to give up the whole Arrowverse - they do have moments of sheer brilliance.

Well said. Kara's relationships with Kat, Alex and now Lena have always been the show's strongest points. Which y'know, in theory I respect that she's not defined by the men in her life and all that. But in practice means the men in her life are kindof uninteresting by comparison.

Well, Pierce may have been Hydra, along with some Senators and such, but something as big as Project Insight doesn't succeed purely on the actions of some well-placed double agents. It takes a whole network of government agencies and civilian contractors, along with engineers, accountants, project managers, lawyers, etc., most of whom weren't Hydra (they were just ordinary citizens and civil servants). AFAIC, Cap wasn't just fighting Hydra, he was fighting a society and a government that was pretty okay with Project Insight and what it aimed to accomplish.

From what I understand, Vol 2 is very deliberately not a rehash of the original in terms of plot structure or tone, and while it is reportedly still a ton of fun with all the same great characters you loved from the first one, some folks just don't like change in any form. And they'll bitch about it, loudly, all over the Internet. So take the criticisms with a huge grain of salt. After all, those are probably the same folks who complained about (or would have if they were alive then) Empire Strikes Back when it originally came out.

NSG isn't the first to put forth the idea that DC is doing things wrong because they are failing to put characters in solo films (or whatever) before putting them together in a team movie. Hugh's counter-argument is that starting with a team movie worked for GotG so why couldn't it also have worked for a movie like Suicide Squad?
 
I think the answer is that it could have worked just fine, had Suicide Squad been given a good story (and a whole lot less studio interference).

I'm sure the DC movies will continue to perform reasonably well at the box office even if they are leached of all life and color. I do have high hopes for Wonder Woman, and I hope Whedon actually gets to make his DC movie this time around (Batgirl is my favorite DC character). But I am not sanguine about the rest of the DCEU projects going forward.

Bear in mind that your character is still considered to be moving or dodging or whatever in between his Phases. So, if your character flies 10" on his Phase, he still has a velocity of 10" until his next action. Likewise, whatever action was taken that affects OCV and DCV still continues to affect OCV and DCV until the character's next action (or an Abort). In effect, that move and/or attack is sort of still "happening" in those segments in between Phases.
 
In the case of an attack or other Instant power, you have to imagine that it was fired off at the end of the Phase, but the character is still "following through" in whatever way you can imagine it making sense for the action taken. It isn't as though time/action freezes in between Phases. It is all supposed to be thought of as continuous and on-going at all times.
