The same with Israeli weapons.  They used to say that you could pour a bottle of maple syrup into the breach of an uzi and it wouldn’t jam.   (Pun intended)

Spider-Man making over a billion world wide draws a pretty stark comparison between it and the previous three MCU films.  Some characters are just more liked, and they also went with a more reliable cast and crew for this one as well.  The formula is this:

    1) Pick a director who loves the material and is an established quality
    2) Cast it with great talent
    3) Write a solid, enjoyable story that honors the source material and the fans
    4) Focus on entertainment, not checking off special identity and narrative boxes

When they stray from this, they stumble.  When they stick to it, they succeed.  All the other excuses and explanations offered fall short.

Oh, it also helps if you stick with beloved, time-tested characters.

Wasn't Charlie Cox in a cameo in No Way Home?  He's listed in the cast and crew.

I wonder how MCU canon this is?

My family and I met Duke and his family today, and they are lovely people!  We met them at the North Carolina History Museum in Raleigh, after which we had lunch together.  Sadly we couldn't have more time together.   Maybe next time we're in Raleigh!

I'm glade it is doing well and as soon as it releases for general viewing I will most likely see it.
As for the MCU movies cratering, well they are.  Spider-man may now be linked to the MCU, but it is still being made like the old MCU movies.  Actual heroes doing heroic things.

Don't worry, they will "fix" Spiderman soon.  The next movie will still do well because the audience will expect more of the same, but after they get blindsided, they will not go to the next.

The MCU movies did not immediately crater because people base their movie decisions on the last of a series that they saw and anyone with a viable brain cell pays no real heed to "critics" or "reviews".  And these days "awards" are generally 180 out from the quality of a movie.  The more awards the crappier the movie.  If you go and see a movie and it is fantastic, when its squeal or follow-on movie releases you will generally go see it as well. But if it sucks hard enough to change the moons orbit, you will not be back for #3.

The last several MCU movies (with the exception of the latest Spiderman) have accelerated in a screaming downward spiral.  And most people, including me, don't even consider Spiderman movies as part of the same studio output.  The last three Spiderman movies have been an anomalous throwbacks to the great writing and storytelling of the MCU phase one type of movie.

It is possible that we could still see good MCU movies, but with them doubling down on the rhetoric I doubt it.

Personally? No. Fate points tend to be an indicator of a narrative based outcome system, and I kind of abhor those, again, personally. I much prefer dice determinist systems, with low to no fudging.  Pre 6th edition Hero, or even Mongoose Traveller work fine for me.  I am kind of the opposite to Ragitsu’s signature file, as I am a very tactical minded player.

That being said, what you propose is a perfectly valid option provided the player injects some personality into the character. It’s just never a satisfying option for me.

A recent trend in the 5e games I play on Roll20, are DMs prohibiting Tasha's content, Eberron, Spell Jammer, plus several other  supplements. As of now, there are 45 books and supplements for 5e, and including all of them would really make an entire mess of a campaign.  In the Old days, people would homebrew most of everything to make a D&D campaign, but With an embarrassment of riches, it seems like perceptive DMs are following your advice, and purposefully limiting the inputs into their games, so as to come close to homebrew.  Sure, its not yet common, and yes, they also get complaints from possible players, but from what I have experiences it makes for a better game. (though it's still not Hero).  Sadly, the young groups are resistant to learning Hero, so if I am to GM again, it may have to be 5e.

The Tiananmen massacre occurred in 1989. Hong Kong was returned to Chinese control in 1997. That's why the monument was allowed to go up, because the PRC government had no say in the matter at the time. That it's coming down now is just one more sign of how the Chinese government's control of the city has grown. Other such signs preceded this, more are coming.

First edition Fantasy Hero had something like this.  There were Short, Medium, and Long weapons, (think dagger, sword, polearm) .  In a fight between a character with a Short weapon and a second character with a Medium weapon, the Short weapon was at -1 OCV until he hit, at which time the Medium weapon was at -1 OCV.  This represented fighting at optimum range for each weapon.  You may be able to use or modify that.

I like some of these ideas, but the problem is you don't want to turn it into Chart Law where you have to consult table 4.2 to find out what matrix you use on page 742 adjusted by chart 13.8

Second RPG I ever played was a game of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay set in the 40k universe (the fantasy roleplay and 40k Rogue Trader stats were compatible enough you could basically just do that).

I didn't have a PC, and the group wanted to get to know me a bit before offering me a place. That was fair enough; I was 14 and the rest of the group were in their 30s-40s and it wasn't clear that we were going to be a good match. And it would have been awkward to bring in a new character anyway, as the party were in the process of trying to reclaim their ship from space pirates and they'd left off half way through the pitched boarding battle (having used their extensive knowledge of their own ship to get back on board).

So the GM gave me an NPC crew member to play - and not just any old mook, but the heavy weapons specialist. So we clear out a few rooms, plant sapping charges on the bridge door, blow it off its hinges, and we all burst in! The GM loving describes the senior pirates, including the pirate captain in his shiney chaos marine power armour. Who promptly shoots and nearly kills my character, who's rolled the highest initiative in the party.

"That sounds bad," says I, "and very tough. I'm going to switch to full auto on the plasma cannon and empty the clip."

The DM considers. Rolls some dice. Looks up some armour ratings.

"Well, there's good news and bad news. Good news is, there's nothing left of the pirate captain except a smoking pair of boots magnetically held to the floor.

The bad news is, you and the rest of the party are being sucked out of the gaping hole in the front of the bridge out you just opened into deep space.

Worst news is, your character just got several holes blown in his space suit and it's no longer air tight."

Long story short: they should have given me a power sword...

Bigotry has _never_ been rational.  It does, however, follow a set of patterns that have been well-demonstrated throughout history.
