  1. I think it matters what powers are Unified. Resistant PD/ED, Blast, STR all Unified is uncommon. Desolid, Regeneration, and Telepathy are probably nearly unique.
  2. Usually I keep an eye on movement multipowers as well. There are a lot of options that can be done. I just try to keep it simple so less experienced players are on a more even footing. The why is also I’ve had some players that no matter the character or concept, everyone of their characters is built with some combination of these things. Like I said, it’s fine, just in my game I try to eliminate mechanical massage to have more balance.
  3. Often you can do something more than one way, but there is typically a way that will feel more inline with your campaign and how the GM does things. For 6E you can think of Spider-Man's webshooters, Hawkeye's arrows, and Cyclop's optic blast as multipowers. VPP are Batman's utility belt, Dr. Strange's vast compliment of spells, a ring from the Green Lantern Corps. Unified Power is something that is often misused, abused, and should be much more rare than it is. Most Hero System characters, including the ones in my books, Book of Templates I and II don't have it. In my personal games though I see it a lot and reject it. I would get with your GM about it before building a character with it. Only In Alternate ID is another kind of framework I see far more than I should and typically in an abusive fashion. But I digress, there are usually multiple ways so if there was a specific example of what you are attempting, we could probably offer even more help.
  4. @VRabubo Hey, welcome to the system. Which edition are you playing and what books do you have? We will get you squared away soon enough.
  5. Now this would have given her a legitimate reason for being on the show.
  6. The 1970’s basketball shorts was a bold choice! Pretty simple build, which I personally enjoy. I could easily drop this in my campaign, thank you.
  7. “Robin, old chum”, has new meaning.
  8. You could go to the Complications tab, hit Custom Complications, hit Notes and total everything there as a note for yourself. Just set the Complication to 0 points.
  9. But at least we will have AI therapy to help us adjust to the heat, flooding, inevitable zombie apocalypes (IZA), and eating bugs. I can't see anything going askew.
  10. Do you mean to reproduce charts and rules from those books in your mini-adventures? You might contact Jason Walters and ask after you are far enough along on the project, know specifically what you want to include and perhaps a sample. This has worked for myself in the past and in an upcoming project. Without looking at the Hall of Champions guidelines, I think I remember reading something about this in there a few years ago.
  11. I keep coming back to this sort of thing. A companion animal is a really good thing to complete a PC for this style of campaign. The super smart, fast, tough horse is obvious, Hi-Ho Silver and all that. The mountain lion, wolf, or coyote are also pretty easy to imagine choices. A hawk or eagle could also be an option for a PC and still keep an old west feel. I mean there is nothing keeping someone from a character with a more exotic animal like an orangutan or tiger, but it could come with a series of problems. "You can't bring that thing in the saloon."
  12. Was the player creative, clever, and intelligent? The one thing I would concern myself with is players who aren't as smart, skilled, or clever as their characters. I guess it is different as well if you are sticking to real world sort of uses like "this mud soothes burns and staunches blood flow from some wounds when applied" or are using a more Star Trek word mumbo jumbo that sounds totally in theme, "the sap from the prickly pear when mixed with an ounce of crushed turquoise and bathed in the blood of a sidewinder is explosive."
  13. I read that as if you allow the school marm to do this then you better come up with a whole lot of other options for other characters that can really let them get "above and beyond" with their skills as well. Which I view as a lot of work for something that is probably better handled as powers and sometimes talents and perhaps Requires A Skill Roll. In Gaslight, there is a talent, mostly geared at the Academic template, that allows the scholar to point out little known facts, which can Drain 1 1/2D6 one Characteristic if a skill roll is made. With One Use At A Time, it is a really generic way to just simulate how skills can help in a cinematic way and allows the smart character to get involved in a big way. This is much easier than coming up with a whole bunch of cool uses for each skill, especially Knowledge or Profession which are kind of endless. It would be cool to see a campaign that really revolved around skills and had a whole bunch of this, perhaps some sort of Ocean's 11 style game.
  14. Would you suggest handling this with skill rolls and more like equipment, or a small active point multipower, or VPP, with either charges or some mechanism to control portions? I found when trying out formulas for Gaslight: Horror and Heroics in the Victorian Era that the VPP actually worked to control this best with the Gadget Talent. There is a lot of ways to get there but I always like hearing what other people would use and why.
  15. How much experience do you have with a zombie gunfighter and a lone wander, with eyes like a predator, and pistols that shoot hellfire? I don't have any experience with that or much with pistols actually but yeah, actual Old West gunfights always seem quick in the videos. That seems like something to consider so that you manage to get a good threat level for the campaign. I guess you have to make sure the quick draw expert doesn't have the capability to end things instantly. I would be more worried as the GM that I might create something that seems cool in my mind's eye, but wasn't fun for my players.
  16. This is a solid point. Even the OX or BULL type who might be a bit more resistant, will likely get nickeled and dimed by a few points of STUN dished out by a barrage of not really "damaging" attacks.
  17. A lot of Fallout stuff easily reskins as Weird West. Death claw ranchers are a thing maybe?
  18. It's true that life is supposed to be dangerous especially in a western. But, in most western comics, heroes aren't laid up for months from injury. Often as you pointed out, that is because they flat out avoid it. It was also a great point that many GMs feel that if they aren't damaging characters, they aren't challenging characters. When I learned to GM from the standpoint of in a heroic level game, one often has nothing to do with the other because the players usually know the stakes if they mess up. I agree wholeheartedly that it has to have a real feeling of danger, but I would definitely keep an ace up my sleeve in case a player messes up and especially if I have an inexperienced player or two. On a side note, a character who is an explosives expert, like Glycerin Max or the Dynamite Kid could be really fun and get wild.
  19. This is an excellent point. You will need to find that sweet spot in the damage the average attack could do and the resistant defense level to threaten but not outright flatten. Especially with ranged martial arts on the table possibly, hit locations, and other factors. Dodge is looking real good. You might also want to give a little thought about healing up from attacks that have done BODY. It can take a substantial amount of time to heal up a few points and can also take a character out of the story for that time. I don't think a cleric walking around healing people is the fit, but an herbal remedy that promotes healing from a medicine man or a really good doctor with a strange European accent that it is almost unnatural how good his abilities are, like he could raise the dead almost are viable options. On a basic note, you might just want to look at all the different options for healing in the game and see where you want to land.
  20. What if there were a perch off the back of the ship, that rose diagonally and allowed the ornithopters to be kind of stacked? You could tailor the look of the ornithopter to match.
  21. I can see a character like Jaguar easily getting the same treatment but maybe as something like Coyote.
  22. Being ready and familiar with a whole lot of gun, knife, bow, tomahawk, etc. tricks would give a lot of avenues for individuality and growth. A martial arts style with a Native American flavor, perhaps an excellent flying tackle and weapon elements could add flavor. What's in the medicine bag? Is it herbalism or magic is a possibility. Sorry if I am all over the map here, this is a really exciting idea. What about a mount or a companion, are they just well trained or perhaps something even more potent that works in tandem with a player to do extraordinary feats. Some Steampunk style crazy haired, goggle covered eye inventor with a VPP of small effects. A character from the Orient who is walking the Earth, like "Kung-Fu" style would be a direction for a player as would a Zorro type mysterious individual with power both in and out of costume.
  23. I run games on Roll20 and just listed a Champions/Hero System other genres game on there this morning.
  24. The group plays Champions but also other genres using the Hero System. We are looking for strong roleplayers more than rules lawyers or system engineers. We play on Monday nights at 630 PST and have played together for a few years, use Discord for voice and for group chats and Roll 20 for maps and such. No experience necessary but please be a fan of comic books. We play Champions and Fantasy Hero so far, and while I am the GM and facilitator it is "our" game, not mine. **Update** The spot has been filled. Thanks for the interest. All openings will be posted in the future.*****
  25. I am impressed with the no subscription model. I have never been skilled with the tech fiddly bits and use Roll20 but would definitely step up if my group was down. Will there be any imports for current 6E Hero products?
