  1. Re: Fastest man alive Yeah, as to that recent Superman quote I seem to recall a post-Crisis story where the geriatric Golden Age Flash Jay Garrick was snuffing out tornadoes like birthday candles while Supes strained desperately to make counter-revolutions fast enough to disperse one. Barry can run up to lightspeed before he hits Speed Force apotheosis/time travel complications, whereas I think we've seen Superman take 90 minutes flying to the sun and back... faster by at least a factor of 5.
  2. Re: Fastest man alive The Flash, no question.
  3. Re: Transgendered Superperson I don't know about that last, SSgt. Baloo, if you ignore the hair and lipstick in this photo Dale Evans might not actually be wearing anything too different from what Roy Rogers would... I don't think this premise could work on Earth Girl, as her whole concept is being an avatar of Mother Earth. Being female is pretty central to that. On the other hand, as Kurzhaan the Conqueror worships the earth goddess and channels his most powerful spells from her, this change would almost certainly be due to her sending some sort of pointed message. He's been pretty aggressively alpha male-ish for twenty thousand years, so I imagine he'd have some difficulty adjusting to the new self-image. But, he wouldn't feel like he could refuse the change if she's responsible for it. Super Model would do whatever it took to reverse the changes and warn her husband's other ex-wives about the possible long-term side effects of the process that granted them powers.
  4. Re: Help: Random Power Table Seems to me that an RKA with a Variable Special Effect and No Conscious Control might work for this too.
  5. Re: Jupiter Impact!!?! Crap, I was already unhappy with the slowly vanishing Autumn and Winter in my locale. Now with two suns in the solar system it'll be summer 365 days a year!
  6. Re: Super Beauty! When I was working on a write-up for Super Model last year, Clonus and other folks contributing to the X-Wives Club thread helpfully pointed out that the Flash-based mechanic for superhuman beauty powers was kind of unworkable in play. Feel free to look the character over and see if anything is helpful to you.
  7. Re: Sixth Edition Showcase #3: Area Of Effect And Damage Shield They did say that The Book of the Machine was the trial run...
  8. Re: Sixth Edition Showcase #3: Area Of Effect And Damage Shield I've definitely ranged from mildly to enthusiastically positive reactions to the showcase threads so far. This sounds like a good addition of flexibility to the AoE rules. The sample page looks beautiful, by the way!
  9. Re: Your character's theme music! Hmm, I'm not sure what I'd pick for Earth Girl - I don't want to go to the obvious Julie Brown place. For Kurzhaan the Conqueror I'd want to use the werewolf aspect as a springboard and choose "Shame on the Moon" by Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band, one of my all-time favorites. For Super Model I'd have to go with George Michael's "Too Funky." If for no other reason than hoping to someday play her in a game where she wears Thierry Mugler's infamous motorcycle dress into a super battle.
  10. Re: Marvel to HERO I think it's still vastly over-inflated. I'd never allow a normal human type, no matter what sort of peak condition they were in, to have a REC over 15. I'd be extremely unlikely to let supers without powers specifically geared to renewing their stamina/life energy exceed 20, unless it's a case of a Hulk-esque tireless brick (like Grond). To put it in terms of Marvel characters, I'd probably give Spider-Man about a 15, Captain America and Wolverine in the 18-20 range, and gods like Thor and Hercules around 25. To get 30 or above you'd have to be talking about someone who freely and tirelessly accesses nearly infinite energy resources, like the Silver Surfer or Jean Grey in full Phoenix mode.
  11. Re: Menton is up It looks like Orville Reddenbacher had a brain-mutating radiation accident in a souped-up tanning bed.
  12. Re: Sixth Edition Showcase #2: New Combat Maneuvers; Objects As Weapons I'm just hoping we'll get an official guideline for the damage involved in throwing a refrigerator at someone.
  13. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? The first season of The Loop. I may, perhaps, over-identify with the protagonist.
  14. Re: Marvel to HERO I can see Spidey having an END in the high double digits so he wouldn't tire out quickly, and maybe Reduced END on Swinging, but remember REC also influences how quickly you recover STUN (and BODY, though fast-healing characters generally have some sort of Regeneration-type power if it makes a difference in combat). I've seen him knocked out plenty of times, not always by superhuman sources of damage, and he does not spring back to full alertness and function instantaneously. I don't recall ever seeing write-ups for any gods with a REC higher than 30.
  15. Re: Marvel to HERO What the hell?
  16. Re: Hero System 60th Edition It'll be big enough that it would take a really long time to disintegrate it, anyway.
  17. Re: character with wish granting powers Mother Gothel in the Arcane Enemies book uses Transform to put blessings and curses on other characters. That write-up might be worth a look, based on the character description. For full-on genie mode stuff, I'd tend to favor a VPP in the low triple digits usable only for granting others' wishes.
  18. Re: Sixth Edition Showcase #1: ACV And AVAD Looks like an excellent new treatment to me. Is there going to be an automatic "Does No BODY" aspect to the AVAD advantage as currently applies to NNDs and AVLDs? Or will the advantage cost reflect a default inclusion of "Does BODY," with the option to only do STUN damage as a limitation?
  19. Re: Metamorpho like powers While critical mass fission effects of Plutonium might not be practical, it is also HIGHLY poisonous in even trace amounts. Probably best modeled as HKA NND Does Body with a lot of dice. Tungsten has an extremely high melting point (6192°F), and could justify buying up a lot of ED. Gold is exceedingly malleable and resistant to corrosion, which says Stretching, Damage Reduction, and Immunity to Chemical Warfare Agents to me.
  20. Re: Super hero one liners If pinned down by Gravitar: "Don't you have a designer purse that a chihuahua could be having an accident in right now?"
  21. Re: Effective builds The little bald kid from the 3rd X-Men movie springs immediately to mind.
  22. Re: MegaScale Missle Deflection You might need MegaScale if you wanted to deflect such attacks at range over interplanetary distances. But the garden variety should be good enough if they're drawing a bead on you with the big guns.
  23. Re: Teleport redirection I actually recall a comics example of this. In Alpha Flight when a pissed-off Talisman (Elizabeth Twoyoungmen version) teleported the team from Edmonton to their headquarters across the continent, Snowbird didn't reappear with the rest. Shaman said that she wasn't so easy to teleport against her will, and would have stayed in Edmonton or traveled to a location of her choosing. Which is a roundabout way of saying that Power Defense might be a good choice for resisting the Teleport UAA effect.
  24. Re: Wrath Of The Ancient Pharaoh Earth Girl would see hordes of the undead as a horrible disruption of the natural order, and regard it as her duty to do something about it. Say, since those hordes are located conveniently outside Cairo, innocent bystanders wouldn't be hurt if several square miles of desert started rebounding like a timpany drum and the sands started spinning in gale force whirlwinds, would they? It's not nice to fool with Mother Nature. Super Model would know better than to get involved. These concubine-demanding reawakened mummies always seem to fixate on the prettiest woman around and convince themselves she's their reincarnated queen or somesuch. Pass. : Kurzhaan the Conqueror spent a lot of his time fighting wars against Stygian wizard-kings and priests of Set thousands of years ago, so putting down reanimated armies would be old hat. The battle would probably be the most fun he's had since being pulled forward into the 21st century.
  25. Re: Appearance Effects, special and other They're more extreme since I designed them to have fairly pronounced effects, but here's what I came up with for appearance-themed powers when building Super Model: 12 Unearthly Beauty: Elemental Control, 56-point powers, All Powers Only Work On Men (-1), All Powers Reduced Proportionately By Drain vs. COM (-1/4) 10 1) Turn Every Head: Change Environment 4” radius, -3 to Normal Sight PER Rolls, Continuous (+1), Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2), Persistent (+1/2), Always On (-1/2), Only Works On Men (-1), Reduced Proportionately by Drain vs. COM (-1/4) 0 13 2) Make Men Fall All Over Themselves: Drain DEX 3d6, Ranged (+1/2), Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2), Gestures (-1/4), Only Works On Men (-1), Reduced Proportionately by Drain vs. COM (-1/4) 0 (With the latter she tosses her hair, blows a kiss, or makes a come-hither gesture and the guy targeted finds himself so distracted he stumbles or accidentally walks into a lamp post...)
