  1. Re: Training Montage There should be a requirement that cheesy 80s inspirational ballads must play in the background for it to work.
  2. Re: 6E Rules changes confirmed so far Doubtless the build will be adding a few MORE of the modifiers it doesn't already have, like Uncontrolled or Trigger. Maybe a Gestures/Incantations combo with a custom meta rider so that characters can only regenerate damage if their players flap their arms and cluck like a chicken first...
  3. Re: Why the dislike for Find Weakness? I won't be sorry to see it go, but I'd have been glad to keep it if we also kept some of the other things that are changing. As a single power, it's easy enough to just not allow if you're not fond of it.
  4. Re: Blocking - What's the point? Something else to consider is the effect of END in a fight. If your opponent uses END faster than he recovers it and doesn't have massive amounts to start with, making him use up END on wasted attacks that do no damage to you early in the fight can put you in an advantageous position several phases down the line.
  5. Re: Missing Airliner Kurzhaan the Conqueror would offer to try retrocognition spells if he could get a ride along the flight path by the Air Force or a flying hero. He might also try a tracking spell (Mind Scan) if someone could provide personal effects that he could pick up a passenger's aura from - that might work if the plane was teleported to another locale rather than crashing. Super Model doesn't have any special senses or detective skills and can only fly at about the interstate speed limit, so not much opportunity to help. Earth Girl's reaction would be "One less flying tin can to cater to the elite and increase pollution in the skies... remind me what the problem was, please?"
  6. Re: Where's the L.A. superteam? I'd be tempted to make a Thunderbolts-style reformed (?) villains super team consisting of Bluejay, Cateran, Hell Rider, and Scorpia as a homage to Los Angeles' Champions team from Marvel in the 70s.
  7. Re: Stargate Extra Dimensional Movement is only supposed to be for travel to another dimension though. The Stargate creates a wormhole between two points in the same dimension. Here's how I'd build it: 93 Chapa'ai Teleportation 10", x256 mass, No Relative Velocity, Area of Effect (2" radius, two-dimensional; +1/2), Continuous (+1), MegaScale (1" = 100,000 light years, can scale down to 1" = 1 light year; +5), Usable By Others (+1/4), 24 Charges lasting up to 38 minutes each (+1 1/2) (647 Active Points); Can Only Teleport to Fixed Locations (-1/2), Extra Time (1 Minute, only to activate -3/4), OIF Immobile, Arrangement (-1 3/4), Independent (-2), Side Effect (disintegrates anything within 6" column in front of gate when activated; -1 3/4) plus 1 Floating Fixed Location Ironically, since it's opaque to normal senses and matter can only travel one way through it, I think the Gate limitation isn't applicable.
  8. Re: Reverse Gravity I don't think any amount of STR in and of itself would be a defense against reversed gravity, but making a successful DEX roll to grab on to something anchored should work for anyone who's strong enough to support their own body weight from a bar or ledge without falling.
  9. Re: Cuts through anything I really think it depends on what sort of attack one is attempting to model. Something like Wolverine's claws, based on sharp edged weapons with no special physics-defying qualities beyond the hardness of the material would strike me as a pretty straightforward Armor Piercing attack. Maybe a 3d6 x2 AP HKA or so, enough to cut through battleship steel with effort but not enough to pierce effectively indestructible materials. For something like Nemesis' atom-wide sword or lightsabers, I'd say the NND [defense is Force Field] Does Body route is the way to go.
  10. Re: Why the dislike for Find Weakness? Personally, I only really have a problem with the stacking aspect. As a one-successful-roll-allowed power, it would be fine.
  11. Re: sticky electric bolt Dude, what kind of crowds have you been getting stuck in? Maybe if we're talking about a power that can only be used at Who concerts...
  12. Re: Hero's New Art Director(s) Congrats guys!
  13. Re: Adding Power Defence to Entangle I don't know... Power Defense is something of a catch-all against a wide variety of attacks, but the basic SFX reads to me as "my body resists being changed." Also, despite its cheapness it tends to be bought to much lower levels than the other defenses; most published characters don't possess it at all, and the couple I recall seeing with 20 points of it were gods.
  14. Re: Earthquake I built something like Hyper-Man's version for my Earth Girl character: 25 Earthquake Stomp: Hand-To-Hand Attack +5d6, Double Knockback (+3/4), Explosion (+1/2), Personal Immunity (+1/4); Hand-To-Hand Attack (-1/2), Only Affects Targets On The Ground (-1/2) Only When In Contact With The Ground (natural earth, stone, and soil only; -1/2) (Active: 62, Real: 25) (She has it as a slot in a multipower with an Activation Roll common limitation, and a MegaArea naked advantage available if she wants the effects to be widespread rather than localized.)
  15. Re: Ultraman Looks very nice! Well done. Since limited endurance was such a big feature of the character in the series, I might advise lowering the CON and END/REC a bit, just enough to get his END down to 100 or less and his REC in the 20s. (His defenses look good to me as is though, so some of the saved points should probably go back into ED if you take that approach.) Or maybe a Susceptibility to being in the Earth's atmosphere that manifests as an END Drain, with a frequency that results in his full END hitting 0 after 5 minutes?
  16. Re: About PRIMUS Just chiming in with my 2 cents' worth, having magician characters attached to otherwise high-tech and somewhat gritty government organizations can come off extremely hokey and mess up the tone of the story. (See a ridiculous sorcery-using S.H.I.E.L.D. agent in the pages of She Hulk a few years ago as an example.) Mike Mignola's Hellboy stories are about the only instance I can recall of it being done well, and in that case it's a whole government agency charged with opposing supernatural threats, and standard supervillains are nowhere to be found. I think the best approach for covering the mystic world angle is having a non-costumed occult detective type character unofficially affiliated with the organization to provide research, advice, and contacts with more blatantly supernatural allies as needed.
  17. Re: Seeing through invisible The only character I can recall from comics with the power to actually see invisible objects/people (as opposed to perceiving them with other non-visual senses) is Susan Richards. She has both an active, effort-intensive projective power to make invisible things flare into visibility (I'd model that as a Suppress) and a passive sense that allows her to personally see such things without interfering with their general invisibility to the world at large. I think I'd build the latter based on the special effect of her own invisibility, as something like Detect Light Warping Fields. It wouldn't work against someone whose invisibility was based on psionically interfering with others' perceptions, or on a physical chameleon effect like Wednesday Addams painting herself to blend into the wallpaper.
  18. Re: Magic system wanted -- historical magic If you want to deal with folk religions and magical practices of freed slaves spreading out from the South to homestead in the Old West and such, Zora Neal Hurston's work would be great to research for background flavor. I'd recommend Mules and Men in particular. (I'd advise buying or borrowing a printed copy though. The online version I linked to has far more typographical errors than I recall reading in college.)
  19. Re: Dr. Sebastian Poe Something like that might not be all that combat effective in a fight with supers, but it could be hellaciously useful for things like opening locked doors, stealing blackmail material, removing evidence and the like.
  20. Re: Super Transportation Maybe the aquatic-powers hero should have his own ride?
  21. Re: Lucha Libre artwork! Wicked cool! Looks like my wish for Aztec Mummy to make an appearance has been granted!
  22. Re: Expanded Shazam power set question Pick one god from each pantheon and have a multicultural superhero!
  23. Re: Confused by Penetrating I've tended to view Penetrating as usable to model attacks that tend to creep back along the pathway of the defense rather than overwhelming it, like feedback from a hit on force shields making consoles explode in a shower of sparks even though the shields themselves remain in operation. Or like a heat-based attack that can't punch through armor, but can raise its temperature enough to make things very uncomfortable for the wearer.
  24. Re: The Distinctive, The Special, The Cool If the advice of someone who's had to work from and on indices across multiple grade levels in textbook programs for over a decade counts for anything, I would highly recommend distinguishing separate books by letters (or some other symbol) rather than using a numeric system that could be easily confused with the actual page numbers. Whether it's book title abbreviations or a simple "A" and "B," it'll be a lot easier for people to distinguish at a glance what they're looking for than hitting them with an index where they'll have to figure out if the first numeral is the book number or the hundreds digit.
  25. Re: Superhuman Endurance I think pinecone has the right of it. Either non-resistant Damage Reduction or just buying a high base STUN, with a high REC for getting back spent END quckly.
