I'm not sure I would discount the extensive Hydra infiltration in Winter Soldier as "government."

Now now, he'll always be remembered as the man who created Ultron. It's not as if indestructible, genocidal robots with Oedipus complexes grow on trees!

Cable ranks up there with, I dunno, Bat-Mite for people I most want to see a movie made of.  The character is completely uninteresting to me at every level, he represents the beginning of when Marvel started to go wrong.

They understand, they just don't care. Quesada established a very antagonistic relationship with fans during his tenure as Editor-in-Chief, and now sweeping decisions are being made at the bean-counters' direction based on spite over film/television rights rather than what will actually work best to engage readers.

Then when sales drop the execs scapegoat minorities.

Again, DC and Marvel are opposites here: the editor and publisher staff at Marvel Comics has that attitude toward readers -- condescension and arrogance -- while their movies seem to want to give the fans what they are asking for and enjoy.

I have a long list of grievances against Snyder & Co, but moving WW to WWI instead of WWII is pretty low on the list. Frankly I think it's a fairly savvy move on DC/WB's part; it means every review of the movie won't be comparing it to Captain America.

I am cautiously looking forward to WW, based on the trailers. But then the Suicide Squad trailers looked good too and that was a train wreck. Hence "cautiously"...

Dude is a Randian. "You plebes can't possibly be expected to understand MY BRILLIANCE!" is the unofficial club motto. I wouldn't be surprised if Snyder has it embroidered on his towels.

Well said. And it's not just that they're completely and openly contemptuous of comics and comics fans; frankly it would be possible to make a lousy Superman movie that still attracts a large general audience. The problem seems to be that valid criticisms from the general movie-going audience are dismissed as just whining from a handful of basement-dwelling comic book nerds.

For reference, here's a fairly early Marvel panel depicting Ben and May at the wedding of Peter's parents:

I suspect, based on the Suicide Squad reshoots and some executives' seeming awareness of people complaining about grimdark, that the typical Zack Snyder murderfests will include tacked-on, juvenile attempts at sarcastic one-liners which will land like lead balloons, Two Broke Girls-style.

Since at least the late 70s when I stated reading Avengers and Iron Man comics?

Reminds me of the original Simonson run on Thor that had the original Secret Wars. He did a total, iirc, of 3 panels, 1st showing Thor and the others entering a gate, 2nd showing the empty gate with a caption saying something like "something momentous happened", the third showing them returning. He then ignored it and resumed his ragnarok storyline.

CA:TFA used the Cosmic Cube. Red Skull always seems to be chasing the Cosmic Cube. That it houses one of the Gems came later in the development cycle.

Another perfectly "natural organic way" to do it is to produce a team movie first, and then if it is successful, spin off solo movies for each of the other heroes after that. Let's not make the mistake of thinking that just because the Marvel approach has been successful that it is the only way to go about it. The X-Men movies were pretty successful before they spun off Wolverine (and by extension, Deadpool), for instance.

DC didn't have to copy Marvel's approach of giving each signature character his/her own movie before putting them together in the team movie, and I'm not convinced that any of the DCEU movies would have been any better off had they done so. As I see it, the core problem isn't a lack of architectural patience, but that DC is creatively misguided (in terms of tone and characterization), and that infects everything they've done so far. Maybe Wonder Woman will be the turning point, but my sneaking suspicion is that Justice League will return to the same joyless, grimdark mode of storytelling as the other films, and the WW film will be the lone beacon of light in the DCEU.
