  1. With all the Wounded Knees, they could be in an Elder Scrolls game....
  2. Just to be clear: are you searching for a new avatar hoping to cause an apocalypse? Or are you searching for a new apocalypse? Because I can tell you from experience that new avatars are easier to come by. Just to be clear: are you searching for a new avatar hoping to cause an apocalypse? Or are you searching for a new apocalypse? Because I can tell you from experience that new avatars are easier to come by. My God, they're multiplying! Run for your lives!
  3. Ah, so happy accident. Still, the team could spin it as historically it was the "Boston Redskins" who were patriots in disguise. Now the team is in Washington, the nation's capital, so let's do a more directly patriotic name. How about: The Patriots? < whistles innocently >
  4. Pitching cover art idea: Muerte doing a J-turn his gold Pontiac Firebird Esprit sportscar which has the license plate 853 OKG.
  5. I like the idea of dual-wielding wallabies.
  6. That's an interesting fact I didn't remember. That suggests the Redskins name is a homage to the anti-British patriots who dressed as Indians for the Boston Tea Party.
  7. A Texas GOP official on Facebook on July 30th, “In 6 months, we’ve gone from the vax ending the pandemic, to you can still get Covid even if vaxxed, to you can pass Covid onto others even if vaxxed, to you can still die of Covid even if vaxxed, to the unvaxxed are killing the vaxxed.” In previous Facebook posts from Apley, he had showed support for mask burning and called incentives to encourage vaccinations “disgusting.” On August 1st he was admitted to the hospital with COVID and was immediately put on a ventilator due to his extremely grave condition. He passed away at 3 a.m. on August 4th. The funeral service is not yet scheduled. He is survived by his wife and 5 month old son, both of who tested positive for COVID. https://www.star-telegram.com/news/coronavirus/article253276493.html < personal comments on the story redacted >
  8. There's a huge business market in Dallas for suites which the team's ownership has spent decades cultivating. If you're coming to the city in the fall for a business deal, you're expecting the business trying to sell you something is going to take you to a Cowboy's game. And if it's a big deal on the line, you're expecting to be taken to a luxury suite either owned by the business or that they've gotten for the weekend in some sort of side deal.
  9. If he was behaving that badly, half a dozen passengers will have taken video of the incident. So you'll probably have multiple angles of the incident at the least if not complete audio.
  10. Fourth Officer Who Responded To Capitol Riot Has Died By Suicide https://www.the-sun.com/news/3401157/fourth-capitol-riot-officer-dead-by-suicide/ With these two quick back-to-back suicides, it makes me wonder if it's a response to the poor reception given to the officers who testified recently in front of the House committee. I mean, the committee itself treated the officers well. But I saw the officers savaged in public responses to the testimony.
  11. People recovering from COVID may have substantial drop in intelligence. https://metro.co.uk/2021/08/03/people-recovering-from-covid-may-have-substantial-drop-in-intelligence-15030236/ Anyone care to follow Graham after his recovery to see if there's a notable drop in intelligence?

  17. You can go to normal discussion forums of news sites and find a number of people pushing Ivermectin as a COVID cure and telling everyone that the vaccines are some sort of poison and completely unnecessary even if they weren't poison. There's big money in denialism and pushing the next quack cure. And it's absurdly easy and cheap to hire a media company to promote your conspiracy theory and drive traffic to your website. You don't even have to sell the cure to make money off of creating a conspiracy theory around it.
  18. It's a shame we can't rerun the universe because the debate every two weeks is tiresome. We know that position in the release schedule of movies is very important to it's box office take. There's jockeying back and forth between studios over release dates because it's an important factor. Taking out the identity of the Captain Marvel movie and saying "this generic movie is the must-see Marvel movie which will set up Endgame in a couple of months and be the payoff for 8-10 years of watching Marvel movies"... Personally I could see that scheduling making hundreds of millions of dollars of difference in box office. Whether it's a half a billion or not, I'm not a studio insider to have their estimations of the impact of the scheduling. I doubt that it's that much but I wouldn't be shocked if THEY thought it was close. I'm sure some number of the people who saw Captain Marvel multiple times in the theater primarily wanted to make sure they didn't miss anything which might be relevant in Endgame. That's just the nature of fandom. But some number went because they thought the movie was kickass. And that Captain Marvel was kickass. And that Nick Fury finally got a lead in a movie. And, and, and....
  19. Dallas, San Antonio, and Houston are all cities which are in the top 10 in the US in terms of population. Buffalo's estimated population is 254,479 and San Antonio's is 1,547,253. I'm sure San Antonio provides some fan base to both the Dallas and Houston teams. But I don't have the impression that it provides any butts-in-seats for either city. San Antonio is a big tourism city already and has a number of military bases nearby. So I'd guess there'd be fans of an appropriate age with money to spend on their own entertainment. After Katrina, there was a lot of interest in moving the Saints from New Orleans to San Antonio including from the Saints owner. Jerry Jones was also on the record as being in favor of the move despite SA being in "his" territory. New Orleans is half again as big as Buffalo.
  20. I'm sure the Rams have at least one other couch at their fancy new stadium.
  21. Yeah, Trump has transitioned from pretending to be a president to grifting people who think he should still be president and pocketing the money (as seen in many ways but especially from the fact that his raising money for further audits hasn't been spent in any manner toward promoting new audits despite the "fact" that the audits were supposed to put him back into power this month). As long as he's rabble-rousing and grifting, nobody's going to care about the inside story except the few who follow politics as avidly as others follow baseball. Now if Trump transitions from pure grifting to actually putting together a campaign structure for 2024, the material from the tell-all books will become more relevant since it'll be dragged out for examination on news show panels, debates, commercials, etc. And particularly the "Trump wanted to use the military against protestors" thing was spoiled almost in real time from leaks inside the administration. The only thing we didn't have was all the identities of everyone who was in the room at specific meetings and the exact verbiage of what was supposedly said.

  24. https://www.livescience.com/galileo-project-hunts-alien-tech.html Are there intelligent extraterrestrial civilizations capable of building technologies that can travel between the stars? An international research project is poised to find out. The Galileo Project, helmed by a multi-institutional team of scientists led by Avi Loeb, a professor of science in the Department of Astronomy at Harvard University, will seek and investigate evidence that could represent defunct or still-active "extraterrestrial technological civilizations," or ETCs, project representatives said in a statement released on Monday (July 26). The project will analyze data from hundreds of episodes of Antiques Roadshow, and design new algorithms using artificial intelligence (AI), in order to identify potential interstellar travelers, alien-built satellites and unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), according to the statement. "Science should not reject potential extraterrestrial explanations because of social stigma or cultural preferences that are not conducive to the scientific method of unbiased, empirical inquiry," Loeb said in the statement. "We now must 'dare to look...."
