  1. Re: Damage for lightsabers Light Sabers shouldn't have a STR min. They should have an EGO min.
  2. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Is it too much to say "Aquaman is just a watered-down Prince Namor?"
  3. Re: Opinions: A 'Hero' Stealing Their Gear.....???? Iron. Iron isn't just about megaviolence. It's about deconstruction and cynicism, abandonment of traditional heroic ethics as being "unrealistic". Booster Gold came out the same year Watchmen did, the year Punisher got his first miniseries, just a year before Marshall Law comes out. It's the start of the Iron Age and Booster, the athlete who got expelled from sports for betting on games and then stole his powers so he could play hero and get back the fame and money is right there along with with the other heros who don't play by the old rules.

  5. Re: Return of the blimp/zepellin Not without a good tailwind.
  6. Re: Single Enemy Campaigns Single enemy series are annoying to me. They underline the fictionality of the world since only in fiction is life quite that simple.
  7. Re: Opinions: A 'Hero' Stealing Their Gear.....???? And from the issue in which it was revealed, I liked him a lot less just as many people like a jock less when they find out that he owes his success to a rigorous program of exercise and steroids. I don't care that it was what they always intended. It was a big mistake if they expected him to carry his own book.
  8. Re: Every Myth Is Not True Then again so would the standard Marvel Dr. Richards.
  9. Re: Opinions: A 'Hero' Stealing Their Gear.....????
  10. Re: Count Nefaria (Marve, Work in Progress) The Avengers are as powerful...barely...not more.
  11. Re: Every Myth Is Not True In the romance novel series that started with Aphrodite's Girdle the superheroes (who currently work in secret but despite that wear capes because one of them invented antigravity flight capes) are the hidden reality behind Greek mythology. At one time they were worshipped as gods and goddesses but when Zeus died, they adopted a lower profile. Despite that they did have one of them who like to fly around at Christmas and give toys to children, and the modern image of a comic book superhero is inspired by humans who caught a glimpse of another one in action.
  12. Re: Best and worst jobs for Superheroes The best job for a superhero? Ambassador. It makes you immune to local law enforcement, gives you access to some information resources, and you probably won't be expelled as long as you stay reasonably popular with the locals. And you can make your own hours. Most of the real work is done by your flunkies anyway.
  13. Re: Weird Idea: Clairsentience as a Disad But does the GM want to run a railroad? If the only purpose of the visions is to make the character miserable then I don't suppose it matters whether they are true or not. But a Cassandra should probably have a design representing exactly what she had. A power, and a curse that made the power functionally useless, a physical and social disadvantages that made her a totally helpless (and useless) social outcast.
  14. Re: Every Myth Is Not True I ran a game in which "magic" did not exist. But I wouldn't have done it except that none of the PCs happened to give me a magic character. It didn't make much of a difference although I amused myself with rules for the disease that causes both vampirism and lycanthropy. Vampires could be killed with a strong dose of antibiotics.
  15. Re: Best and worst jobs for Superheroes What makes a job bad for a superhero? Located in rural areas with limited opportunities for action Heavily supervised by a manager Long hours Subsistence pay
  16. Re: Time Travel Wish List? Isn't visiting places that are interesting and dangerous the point of the game?
  17. Re: The World Dream Bank Boy, this guy has an unrealistic idea of how easy it is to alter a planet's orbit or rotation.
  18. Re: Supergenius... Personally, I prefer with these omnicompetent genii to just give them general categories like "Physics", and crank those categories up to the point where the minuses are manageable.
  19. Re: What Age are we in now But so far nobody has identified any characteristics of it. Which makes me think people keep trying to declare the Iron Age over because they know it's horrible, but even though they stab it with their forks the thing just won't die. I mean c'mon what's different about the last few years from the 90s? More cannibalism because that's the only way a villain can be worse than a hero? More heroes turning on each other?
  20. Re: What Age are we in now Well the benchmarks of the past are: 1939: Superman and Batman come out. 1956: The Flash reintroduced the superhero. 1973: Gwen Stacy dies and with her the Comics Code Authority 1986: The Punisher gets his own comic book. I can't really think of another such benchmark, nothing that is likely to revolutionise the business (Civil War being just more of the same with the default Marvel universe being retooled for a greater resemblance to the more Irony Ultimates universe) so I'm guessing we're still in the Iron Age.
  21. Re: Opinions: A 'Hero' Stealing Their Gear.....???? I think as a GM that depends on the real reason why she took them. Is it just that a latent magic sensitivity caused her to sense the power in them, or is she a reincarnation of their former owner, or did they outright influence her mind? For TN Lung this would be a matter of little concern. He fights the initiators of violence, not just thieves. He doesn't really understand the concept of property anyway. For the Wizard of Oz Incorporated, he's probably out to get the stuff back. He doesn't waste time thinking about whether someone is a "hero". For Hellfire, well stealing is stealing so yes it diminishes Elfchick as a hero, but if she can use it for good, then Hellfire would use her connections to try to get her pardoned and the artifacts loaned to her for the public good. Riptide was always prepared to overlook minor issues. He wouldn't care unless it damaged his team.
  22. Re: Superheroes in Real Life Well here is the reality of the thing: It is legal in general to intervene in a crime as a private citizen in any nation using English Common Law as the basis for their system of justice. In many jurisdictions there are mask laws often intended to suppress the Klan. However, they haven't actually been enforced for a long time. It is, however not legal to leave the scene of a crime before the police let you go. Nor is it legal to testify masked and using a pseudonym. But the Fantastic Four shouldn't have a problem.
