  1. Re: What would be your take on She-Grond? There's room for more than one. There are like six Superman clones in the Marvel universe. However Ogress sounds much better than either She-Hulk or She-Grond.
  2. Re: Is Flight Slow? Of course you could say the same about the more plausible interplanetary spacecraft of our future, provided you don't give them a month or so to accelerate.

    Character Names

Re: Character Names Real names are just randomly stolen from whatever I'm reading. I generally start with a psuedonym and then figure out a character to go with it.
  4. Re: Order of the Stick Belkar gives the best snappy banter.
  5. Re: Incarcerating Gadget/Focus Villains I left the guy who had been captured in jail and had someone else use the suit of power armour the next time. In another case, I just had the creator of the gadgets give her a replacement set. But most of my supervillains unless they are a Hunted, stay in prison once caught.
  6. Re: Regression of Interstellar Civilizations No, you won't. First all we are talking about more than one civilisation so we need a cause that transcends cultural boundaries. It would also be nice if the cause was semi-credible.
  7. Re: Dreams in the HERO House A character has been asked to investigate a mysterious disappearance. He goes to a high-walled compound which has guards on the gates but they step aside when he orders them to. Off in the distance a man with a camera following our hero. Inside the compound there's a old-fashioned cemetary with standup tombstones. Even though it was clear outside, it's foggy inside. There are a lot of black birds perched on the tombstones. The character crosses to the opposite side of the cemetary, surprised. The cemetary is old and is still being used, but it's so small. It should have filled up long ago. There's a gate on the opposite side and he goes through it. Then he hears a scream from the other side and opens the gate again, only to see a skeleton holding a camera right in front of the gate and black birds taking off from the stripped corpse. With a chill he realises how they keep using the cemetary even though it's full and what happened to the man he was looking for. Really though, all that's needed are stats for the piranhacrows. Since one of my earliest dreams about trying to escape from a cloud of butterflies with bee stings, I'm guessing if I ever ran into one of those characters who make your fears real, in my case it would be small flying creatures that attack enmasse.
  8. Re: A Thread for Random Musings I wonder whether the "related threads" things at the bottom will make thread necromancy more likely.
  9. Re: A Thread for Random Videos That's a game mod. I've seen a lot of them with stuff like Homer Simpson fighting characters from Streetfighter.
  10. Re: Regression of Interstellar Civilizations Another civilisation, cunning, subtle, ruthless, but wimpy, uses memetic warfare to spread a kind of insanity among their foes, giving them demophobia and a discomfort for remaining in one place.
  11. Re: Musings on Random Musings There's a Creepy Hotel thread? Where?
  12. Re: What gives the "rightful" king the right? But that defeats the point of thinking in terms of a "right" to rule which is to come up with a system by which you do not have to have a civil war to decide who is in charge. Legitimacy of succession is created by having everyone expect you to be in charge before you are. The man who carves his way to the blood-stained throne through force of arms neither has, nor needs the "right" to rule. His son and grandson do need the "right" to rule to avoid having to fight another war and other people need him to have that right to avoid the same way. Since they accept the principle of "inheritance" at a lower level, it makes sense to them to pass down the realm like any other bit of property. This system of course only works once people have gotten into the habit of thinking that the country belongs to the current dynasty, which usually takes a couple of generations and only as long as the current ruler is not so repulsive that people can't put up with them, and the question of who is the most entitled inheritor under the rules of succession isn't murky.
  13. Re: Regression of Interstellar Civilizations The civilisations engage in a race to apotheosis and the singularity makes the core of their civilisations just sort of disappear into glowing balls of light that fly away and are never seen again. The few survivors regard the vacated population centers with superstitious dread.

    Quantum Powers

  18. Re: Super Powers, Cybernetics, Magic, etc....getting back into the swing of things. If I restrained you properly I'm sure I could remove your arms and legs with surgery or power tools as well but that's not what restrainable means. Buying cybernetic implants as innaccessible foci could be a possibility if you expect other characters to be aiming at your implants and disabling them with attacks. You could make them vulnerable to malfunctions if you expose them to a magnetic field.
  19. Re: Super Powers, Cybernetics, Magic, etc....getting back into the swing of things. No. Just...no. Why does the cyborg's armour just appear and disappear? And what about the nature of the cybernetics make them restrainable? If I wrestle him he can't breathe? Putting senses in a framework is a bit of a no-no just because it gets really cheap
  20. Re: Super Powers, Cybernetics, Magic, etc....getting back into the swing of things. Doing that as a multipower costs more and accomplishes nothing. Nor is there any limitation which would be applicable to all those abilities.

    Quantum Powers

Re: Quantum Powers Creating explosions by destabilising an atom or two. Extra-dimensional movement to alternate histories based on the many-worlds interpretation
  22. Re: Super Powers, Cybernetics, Magic, etc....getting back into the swing of things. Well the decision about whether or not to use a multipower is basically dependant on whether you can activate and fully utilise more than one power at at a time. If your cyborg can't simultaneously fly and shoot his arm laser at full power, then he should get a multipower. If he can, then they should be separate. A character like Iron Man has a dozen different attacks, but he chooses which one of them he's using at any given moment from a menu of options so he should use a Multipower for them.
  23. Re: Alternate Earth 3: Passionless Christ A century later when the moors are invading Frankland that'll be a closed issue, lost to time and space.
  24. Re: Alternate Universe 2 The answer of course is that societies will develop ways of pressuring people not to exercise their ability to choose such as my hypothetical patriarchal society where refusing to perform your "womanly duty" becomes a criminal offense.
