  1. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... Finished "Proven Guilty" over the weekend. It was very good and I am looking forward to reading "White Night." I just started reading "Storm Front" so I can figure out what's going on.
  2. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Stifle the mockery, I saw Wild Hogs over the weekend. Acting was mediocore, the plot was bad, but I haven't laughed so hard at a movie in a long time. It went for the easy laughs, and continuously picked on poor William H. Macy's computer programmer character, but it pulled off most of the easy jokes well. Ray Liotta and William H. Macy were the gems of the film. Also Paul Sr. from American Chopper drinks a wine cooler.

  4. Re: When you hear Urban Fantasy... My personal favorite scene was Constantine flipping off the devil as he ascended. Several people have mentioned it already but to me Urban Fantasy is more like Neverwhere, or Changling: The Dreaming. A world of magic and wonder hidden below dark stairwells, behid closed doors, and trying to survive in a rational world.
  5. Re: Richest Man in the World Disease What you mean. This is an adversarial position to take, its not, me vs them, but it sounds an awful lot like "I know better, so shut up and listen to me."
  6. Re: Dr. Hannibal Lector (Preliminary write up) My limited understanding is he is just very good at understanding people. Perhaps make the telepathy power require a roll.
  7. Re: Order of the Stick Treasure Type O. Priceless.
  8. Re: Qin: The Warring States [Fantasy/Ninja] I picked up a hardcover at Gencon last year. I plan on using it to run a game at the local convention. It is a well written book and has plenty of information (as someone not intimately familiar with the history, I would say just the right amount, not too much information to confuse the issue, and enough information to run a game in).
  9. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? I agree that Fearless did a good job of making everyone look good. Jet Li's character was heroic not because he was the only good person in the movie, but because he set the bar higher for the other fighers and heroes of the flim.
  10. Re: Order of the Stick There is also a true ressurection spell that doesn't cost the raised person a level. It does cost 25k to cast the spell though. Effectively yes, practically no. In our current 3.5 game, one of the characters died twice. Although we tore his poor soul from paradise twice, the player retired him because he was now two levels (and 10k or 15k in money) behind the entire party. Since we were at fairly low level, the level difference made quite an impact on his ability to keep up with the Joneses(sorry its a fantasy game, J'one'ses).
  11. Re: What would you like to see in Enchanted Items? I second (or third) the suggestion for making items unique, and perhaps a paragraph or two in the item creation text for ideas on how to give items history and keep them interesting. Any magic weapon has to have taken energy and skill for a wizard to make it, it should show. Unique materials, such as dragonskin, mithril, ironwood. How to obtain them, what kind of skill it takes to work them, what the advantages and disadvantages of each are. Tomes of magic, rituals, and prophecies.
  12. Re: Gargoyles HERO Well you did have a point that I agree with, which is to make the physics of the game world consistent. I just dislike the terms 'handwavium/unobtanium' because they seem to limit the discussion to real world physics and dismiss anything outside of real world physics as BS as opposed to imagination. If gargoyles are as heavy or heavier than humans, then the GM has to decide, are gargoyles aided by some sort of magic, are the laws of physics slightly different so that humans could use smaller gliders to descend at the same rate. Its obvious by Xanatos' body armor that physics or technology is different in Gargoyle land then the real world.
  13. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? I have been watching Batman Beyond Season 2, and Animaniacs set 1 the past week. Tony Jaa's Ong Bak is currently half viewed in my DVD player. Its good, but I was too tired to finish watching it Saturday night.
  14. Re: A Thread for Random Musings My brother has to put his dog down. It reminds me of 12 years ago when we put the family dog down. Since my brother doesn't have any kids my parent's often joked and called them grandpuppies, and I refered to them a furry nephews. But its times like this that we realize pets really are a part of the family. One of the reasons I don't get a pet like a cat or a dog is fear of losing the pet. (the other reason being I am not home enough to really care of a dog, a cat I might be able to handle) The news puts a bit of gloom on the week.
  15. Re: Warhammer 40K report on Santa Claus And isn't this what the Christmas season is all about, giving gifts from the heart.
  16. Re: A Thread for Random Musings The one good thing about a slow end of year, I get to clean out my inbox. Down from a high of 700 messages, I have less then 87 currently. I maybe able to clean it out for the new year. If only I could keep it clean.
  17. Re: Musings on Random Musings One winter when I was in Seattle I left my apartment and it was clear, when I hit the south side of Boeing field there was a dusting of snow, and by the north end of Boeing field it was several inches.
