  1. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Why is that people with the first name Richard insist on the shortened form 'Dick.' I ask because I recently received the following e-mail, "Good Job, keep in close contact with Dick." I wonder if I can sue for sexual harrasement from that one.
  2. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Its that time of year again. Spring. The geese have started nesting on the company campus, meaning that you have watch where you walk or you are likely to get attacked by an over-protective pair. Its hard to take them seriously when you think of the smothered in plum sauce at thanksgiving. That is until the start hissing and try to wing strike you. The other annual right of spring is the presentation of the phone books. How many phone books does one house need? The answer, at least six. So far I have received six phone books, many duplicates. Since I live in a suburb of a suburb, I get a copy for Greater St. Louis area as well as St. Charles county. I might be less likely to complain except that the phone books don't even match. The St. Louis phone book always has more St. Charles businesses listed than the St. Charles phone book. Argh. Well, the April showers have begun early, so hopefully this gloomy season will pass quickly and summer will arrive.
  3. Re: Herogames: The Sportscar Product I will simply say I disagree, and as another company has the liscence the point is moot.
  4. Re: Challenge: Explain this scene in HERO Terms I go with TK. If he had Mind Control of WW they would have gone straight to commercial once he got command of her. Once they returned from commercial they would have had a placed advertisement for Lucky Strikes and then gone on with the show.
  5. Re: Herogames: The Sportscar Product I saw elsewhere that Eden Studios had grabbed the liscence for City of Heroes. I think that would have been an ideal for a Sports Car product. It would be a straightforward translation from the computer game to Hero. The product would have name recognition and hopefully bring some people from the MMOG to the table. Also those who liked the computer game, but not neccesarily Hero might buy it for the setting material. Though DoJ has stated in the past that there have no interest in liscencing titles.
  6. Re: Re-imagining the Star Wars universe. I've only read a few novles in the EU, so I wouldn't use the EU at all. I did enjoy the Clone Wars, and have picked up a new game, Republic Commando, in which you lead a clone Commando unit. I could see running a game with jedi at Clone War (animated series) power levels, or a Commando unit for a military style campaign. I would limit the material to what is published by WotC (or even WEG's material, though I don't own any WEG books), and probably a limited subset of those books as well. For non-game material I probably just stick with the 6 films (maybe just the original three, using the prequels as information about the pre-Empire days, but not canon). One more thing to add that I forgot about. I would change some aspects of the Jedi Knights and their code. The steppingon an ant gives you a darkside point is a bit ridiculous. Not that I would make them stone cold killers, but a little more lee way would be nice. I like the suggested idea of perhaps going with the Samurai code for their main code as workable.
  7. Re: Musings on Random Musings I respect her for accepting the award. I still do not respect her as an actor, but it did take a lot of guts to accept a Razzie and even join in with some self-mocking.
  8. Re: [iron] Why do you dislike the Four Color/Silver age (No Flames please) This, and the example you provided, are a difficulty I am having in thinking up some plots for our current game. Its easy and straightforward to come up with lots of good four-color plots, but I also wanted a bit of bronze, or tarnished silver age feel. I think I am going to resolve it by playing the first series of episodes as fairly four-color, and then begin to add in other elements as the characters get established and everyone gets more comfortable with the four color heroes. All of the previous games have had more of an iron age feel to them. So I want to make an obvious break from that before I start to bring other elements into the game.
  9. Re: 2006 Schedule Blurbs Really looking forward to this book (and all the other pulp resources). I hope that for vehicles and equipment there is liberal use of art in the book. Also a list of suggested music and artists from the time period for color and background material would be handy.
  10. Re: Musings on Random Musings For specifics you need to know what governmental agency you will be looking for. Here is what I pulled from the USDA: So I would guess one year experience above a college education, or a graduate degree in the field they are looking for.
  11. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Inspired by the quote below, I think I may have a change for avatar. Though not sure, pikachu weild a black blade of disaster is cute, but what I am thinking of strikes even more fear into people's hearts.
  12. Re: Reaching Across the 19th Century Aisle Sounds like a great idea and definitaly a good idea to use a single book to combine to genres based in the same general time.
  13. Re: Hudson City Sightings It is at my FLGS (well, at least they had a copy when I was there last week). However, I went with Vibora Bay last week, and will probably pick up HC next week when I get my paycheck.
  14. Re: A Secret Service Question I would be surprised if they can refuse it. I would guess that the reason the entire immediate family is protected so that they cannot be kidnapped and used to blackmail a sitting president. The VP's children may be able to refuse. Doesn't the Buffy-verse have a secret government team which hunts supernatural things? If so then once its revealed that the VP's daughter is a Slayer, the Secret Service woudl recruit someone from that division to work as her SS bodyguard. If you have Stargate as well, then you have people dealing with ET issues daily so its not like they couldn't be transfered as well. With this amalgamation of universes, surely there is someone that is qualified and skilled enough to provide SS protection to a Slayer. I suppose the Enterprise could just stay in geo-synch orbit above her base city and beam her out in case of trouble.
  15. Re: Anyone trying anything with Everquest II I am playing EQII as well. (Befallen Server) I havne't done anything with it, and don't plan to since several of the other players in my group are much more hardcore EQ players. I do think its a nice setting and could offer a great tabletop game for a group. I might tone down some of the stuff to keep with the more post-Apocalyptic feel. Also it would be nice to play tabletop as quests would actually mean something. Stealing the battleplans from Blackburrow would actually help Qeynos. Good to know that WW is doing a good job with them. I wouldn't mind stealing the setting and using a different ruleset (probaly Hero).
  16. Re: Musings on Random Musings I plan to make it fairly light-hearted. Describing it as 'tarnished silver age' but plan to have a lot of fun things in it. Will be some definite homages, but I don't plan on, "By golly that was quite a fight Old Chum." It won't be sterile, civilains and criminals may die (in fact one of the aspects is that the team's former archnemesis was put to death by the state). So not quite true Silver Age, but much more four color than the group normally runs. Still there may be travel to space and cosmic challenges, time travel and other insanity. I am a big fan of the current JSA series, so that will likely be a huge influence on the campaign. Speaking of JSA, did anyone read this weeks issue? I love the final full page splash. The current Mr. Terrific is in the 1950's surrounded by a Klan rally, "They call me Mr. Terrific."
  17. Re: A Thread for Random Musings So last night at game night they asked if I could start my Champs campaign next week. I managed to hold off for another couple of weeks as the current GM runs a module, then I am up. Guess I should work on that thing. Looking forward to it as I am going to try to make it a Silver Age style game which the group has never run before. I have most of the background info and generalities complete, now I just need to sit down and start working on the specifics of the campaign world. Guess I need to keep off EQII this weekend and set out guidelines. Sorry for the rambling. I am half-excited about this because I have some great ideas, half-terrified because I want it to succeed and can't guarentee success.
  18. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... No specific quote but the general theme; four super spies, and we attacked a sauna. Three agents fired pistols into in while a forth peppered it with automatic rifle fire. At that poing we were 'guessing' that someone was hiding in there. (we happened to be right, but I was just imagining us blowing this thing to pieces only to find it empty and villain escaped)
  19. Re: The cranky thread I have been in a pissy mood the past few days. Two major reasons that I can think, one that I have little control over, one that I have some control over if I overcome my normal psych disads (apparently my ego roll is way to easy to fail). Slightly annoying, slightly fun to be irritated by every slight in the world. Also never realized that so many curse words could be crammed into a single sentance. Over the next week things should improve, and in the meantime I can hide at home and watch the Super animated collection.
  20. Re: Missing matter found I thought the missing matter was misplaced keys and socks that disappeared from dryers. This makes more sense though. It amazes me how much we continue to learn about the universe. It was not that long in the ago that human civilization didn't even have a basic understanding of the universe. Now we are to the point where we can predict the amount of matter the universe should have and conduct experiments to find that missing matter. *And* there is still lots more to learn.
  21. Re: Musings on Random Musings The recent RFK issue brings up an issue long thought solved... Who is Kaiser Sose?
  22. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Only Sinatra could make "Old McDonald" cool.
  23. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Wow, the day goes much slower without having co-workers around to BS with and break the monotony. At least its friday.
  24. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Last night I opened my front door, and lo and behold I found Batman: The Animated Series, Season 2 DVD Boxed Set sitting on my doorstep. Well, not really a surprise, I had ordered it from Amazon and had been tracking it since I received word that it had shipped. Now, if I can get home before 7 (which would be a first for the week) I might be able to watch a few eps before I hit the hay. Meanwhile, the anti-couch potato side of me is in pain. I will never restart weight lifting after a year off (thoughI have been running most of that time). Never knew that muscles could hurt so bad.
